That's probably the best way.

What I personally do is put them on the day care until they reach a level close to 30, then I feed it a few rare candies, writing down the stats for each level on MetalKid's IV calculator, usually around 3 or 4 levels, that pretty much gives me accurate IVs.

You could also just battle over WiFi and use the level 50/level 100 which will change your Pokémon's level to that level. Then just check out their stats.

It's harder to tell IV's in 4th gen, due to eggs hatching from level 1.
I tend to use rare candies until the Pokemon is level 25, feed it some doping drugs, then goto the IV calculator on Pokedex250.

I normally leave them in the Daycare until Lv10. Then the calculator gives me things like "10-19" so I can at least have an idea. But the best is to train them a bit more.

Best way to check IVs in D/P is to go on Lv. 100 Wi-Fi, where their levels are automatically set to 100.

That's the most accurate way to check IVs. It works perfectly for me, I do it all the time.
