I think you'll generally find the golden era of anime was probably from the mid 80s throughout the 90s. The mid 80s are really when anime was growing into its own respectable field and becoming something more than a medium for children thanks to shows like Gundam, Dunbine, and Votoms.

Er, what? It seems more like everything is moving around because of the camera's fast paced perspective keeping up with the fluidity of the fight. I have no idea in what world Cowboy Bebop's animation would ever be considered bad, it's really one of the few shows with a consistent level of quality that transcends the generation it was made it. It's probably the only show where I've actually liked the use of rotoscoping because of how well it's pulled off.

Animation generally does seem to be getting worse, though, and not strictly in the form of how things are drawn. There are a lot of animators who just aren't well versed in simple things such as perspective. But hey, that's what happens when you outsource 90% of the work to cheap Korean studios~!
 
The only animation studio where I've seen genuinely AMAZING animation come out of recently would be Studio Ghibli, Kyoto Animation and Gainax because...

They're Ghibli, KyoAni and Gainax. :<

Also, I'm watching the Cowboy Bebop movie and ASDF THIS IS AWESOME ON TOO MANY LEVELS TO COUNT.

Animation seems like Sunrise didn't have a budget. n____________n

Seems like Gainax kills it's budget every time cuz it does XD

Personally a fan of Bones, which isn't on this list here XD
 
That's because BONES is a double-edged sword.

Sometimes, they'll make a show that's got solid animation through and through. FMA for example.

Then, they'll give a show they're normal budget, which contains 3 distinct characteristics.

1. CG
2. Good animation when needed
3. HORRIBLE animation to balance out number 2

That's why I didn't list them. :<

Also, Gainax used almost half their budget on the last 5 episodes of Gurren Lagann.

And the earlier episodes were animated well too.

Then there's Lagann-hen. :U
 
COuld you give an example please. The only work from Bones i've seen is OHHC (hated it) and Tokyo Magnitude (Loved it). Neither of those looked shoddy though and i don't think eiother of those anime had a big budget.
 
I've seen Ouran High School Host Club's animation, it's one of those shows they gave a better budget to. Haven't heard of Tokyo Magnitude though.

Watch Samurai 7, you'll see. There will be moments of physical pain.

Worst animation I've seen so far is early One Piece.
 
I don't really care too much, as long as it contains obscene amounts of moe. Older art styles bug me though, so I really don't watch old shows at all.

Gainax has a reputation for being the most creative people when they have no funds, and the worst spenders of money. Evangelion, where they ran out of funds for the last few eps. Gunbuster, where the last episode had no color[Note: it was a 6 ep OVA]. Gainax has gained notoriety for running out of funds for no matter what show they do that it's become a joke at this point. XD

Scrapped Princess, eh? Back in 2004 or so I saw a promo for it in a magazine, took an immediate liking to the artstyle and wanted to watch it ever since I saw it. When I decided to give it a try last year...I was a bit disappointed. If the first episode was any indicator, great animation is not one of Scrapped Princess' strong points.

Also, let's not forget about Panty & Stocking in this discussion of Gainax. Especially the 2nd part of episode 5. ;_;
 
Ended up staying up waiting for Bakuman, thought it was about 2am...it's nearly 6 now.*facepalm*

Anyway Bakuman is still awesome, my favourite anime of the season.

And for that list Digi, seen none of them but i have Darker Than Black on my HD somewhere. I'll check it out soon.
 
Ayako got it subbed hours ago. Apparently they picked it up on this episode. gg's a bit slow this week. :/

Also, after 5 cruel, unforgiving, sleepless nights, I finally passed the 100 mark for the manga. I'll be up-to-date by tonight. Then I can sit around and wait for a chapter each week (hopefully) like all the other cool kids. :s
 
Watched 5 more episodes of Kannagi, and now its getting quite interesting :>

Has anyone here watched it?
 
Bakuman was good this week, it's definitely managing to maintain my interest quite nicely.
MM, on the other hand was pretty disappointing. I found episode 4 very satisfying, I liked how fast the story developed.
But episode 5... ;-; ... a little too 'magic-y/supernatural'. I found myself pretty hooked by the storyline that was dealing with 'serious' conditions, (androphobia, masochism) but managed to add in the humor without spoiling the story.

Kuragehime. We're only 2 episodes in, but I love this anime. Episode 2 lacked story development, for the majority, the only thing of significance was a little more backstory. =\
The World Only God Knows, I'm loving this one too. Genius anime so far. Same for Arakawa. And pretty much all the other animes this season.
The only one that is starting to irk me slightly is Fortune Arterial, that I expected a little too much from. I want more climax and drama from this anime, not all the fussing and slow, petty stories.
