Sorry if this sounds stupid... IS a Shaman a mythological creature?

No, that's a human who summos's ghost's and uses them in battle.
You could make an undead human necromancer..........but that's not mythological either.
Or atleast i think.
-----------------------------------------------------

That Chimera isen't bad either. but what's in is? A lion ,dragon and....a goat?

Its only the 7th of June! Why do these contests feel so long? and I like AssasinX's entry, but i think it looks odd...(dunno why...it just does)

what does anyone have to say about my entry?

I like it's eye the most.

I think "Hydra" traditionally refers to the Greek monster with the multiple heads, but if you're thinking something more in the direction of what Gyarados is, that's fine too.

Angels or mermaids will be fine.

I don't think shamans would exactly constitute for "mythological creatures". Their powers may be myth, but the people themselves are not...

UnseenIdiot, unless you can tell me exactly what mythology your entry is supposed to come from and provide me with a reference image of the creature, it is disqualified for not adhering to the contest theme.

Pandoras Box, your entry is disqualified for not fitting the contest theme. Even if you could point me to a mythology that involves green cats on fire, your entry looks like an Espeon on fire, not a green cat on fire, anyway.

Mr.Tumnus, your entry is also disqualified for not fitting the contest theme. It looks like a winged Rapidash, not a winged horse - I specifically warned against that in the contest rules.

Shamans are not classified as a mythological creature as Dragonfree stated in her post.

It's incredible how little people know. The concept of a Shaman who summons ghosts is from the anime Shaman King, it is not the real purpose of a shaman.

Shaman originally referred to the traditional healers of Turkic-Mongol areas such as Northern Asia (Siberia) and Mongolia, a "shaman" being the Turkic-Tungus word for such a practitioner and literally meaning "he (or she) who knows".

The Tungus word has been further connected with Chinese sha men "Buddhist monk," ultimately from Sanskrit. śramaṇa "Buddhist ascetic" (see shramana).

Accordingly, the only proper plural form of the word is shamans and not shamen, as it is unrelated to the English word "man".

In its common usage, it has replaced the older English language term witch doctor, a term which unites the two stereotypical functions of the shaman: knowledge of magical and other lore, and the ability to cure a person and mend a situation. However, this term is generally considered to be pejorative and anthropologically inaccurate. Objections to the use of shaman as a generic term have been raised as well, by both academics and traditional healers themselves, given that the word comes from a specific place, people, and set of practices.

For reference to mythological creatures, Encyclopedia Mythica's Bestiary section should be able to point you in the right direction.

Orophin is disqualified for art theft. The funny thing is, it's my sprite he stole, so it seems pretty darn thick to enter it in a contest that I'm judging.

The original sprite:

Yes, no, and no unless you use the program for some kind of filter or aid or something that would be regarded as cheating.

Here's mine:
It's a Manticore.

Any comment?
(Accept that it still needs wings.)

Oh, and it's not allowed to post two entries, I know.
But is it allowed to edit your entry?

That's reminds me of the manticore i saw in Tales of Symphonia.
Now about the sprite; I don't like the over-dithering to much.
More comment i can't give.

And yeah it's a good question.
'Can' you edit your entry?

Yes, you can edit your entry - just be sure to note when you have edited it so I'll know to look at it and re-judge it.

Would the Loch Ness monster be considered a "mythological creature"?

This site has legends about it(in the first three paragraphs).

Discuss.

And I just noticed Red Lugia's sprite is a bit pillow-shaded.
