...and possibly Gen IV. I haven't played HG/SS yet.

I can't understand why so many people bitch about it. Seriously, some of the things that happened to Kanto happened for a reason. People complain that the Kanto legendries aren't on it. Well, that would be because it's a sequel to the Gen I games, in which Red already defeated/caught them. What would be the point in Mt Moon being as long as it was in Gen I, when all the wild Pokemon previously in it were seen earlier in the game? IE Paras, Geodude and Zubat. Not to mention that it wouldn't be able to have its Team Rocket angle. And did anyone honestly expect the Safari Zone to stay open when half of the Pokemon in it were easily obtainable earlier in the game? IE Tauros, Scyther, Pinsir, Marowak etc etc. Then people complain that Viridian Forest, Seafoam Islands and the Power Plant were hindered. In Gen I, Viridian Forest was for early trainers, and Seafoam Islands was basically for Articuno and Power Plant for Zapdos. Considering what I said earlier about the Legendries, is there really anything else we could have done with them? No, there wasn't.

I understand that people may think these were the best parts of the Kanto Journeys. But still, there are logical explanations as to why stuff got removed. It gets mentioned by mindless people in every single thread I go into about Gen II. It annoys the hell out of me. Was it really that bad?

    Anyways, discuss.

    It was indeed that bad.
However, they didn't include those because of the space limits :/
And red didn't catch the pokemon, purely to the fact that it was never shown or even hinted that he caught them. Thankfully, that disgusting thing they called Kanto was updated and places like Viridian forest were actually put back in, which is not a beginners forest mind you. Just because it is in the beginning, doesn't mean it's for beginners.
They could have fixed that god awful excuse for a region shape to make up for the lack of space though, that thing was hideous.

Well, to be honest, it is for beginning trainers. The Pokemon are low leveled and the forest consists of trainers with low leveled Pokemon. If that's not a beginners forest I'd like to know what it is.

The rule of RPG's is to get progressively harder through the game.
I doubt you would want a random kid coming up to you and using a level 60 Scizor when you have a level 13 Charmander.
And I hope you remember that the children on route 1 in anorexic Kanto had level 30 pokemon. Although they were extremely low levels considering your average pokemon are 40, they were still a huge improvement from the R/B/Y Bikers. Seeing the pattern, the little bug catching children will most likely have improved levels as well.

The only complaints I had about GSC's Kanto was the relative scarcity of trainers (compared to Johto) and their low levels, especially the gym leaders...only two of which had pokemon that matched Lance's levels from earlier in the game. >:o

The Cinnabar Volcano eruption is another poiint that's brought up as a lame plot device, but I always felt it added a small sense of conflict to the game's storyline, even if it did cause Blaine to move his gym into the severely nerfed Seafoam Islands. >_>

I don't see what was wrong with the Power Plant, it's a Power Plant and that's what it was in GenII. It was created to supply electricity not become a home for electric Pokemon.

Why would people think that the Legendary birds would be in GenII, they obviously got bored sitting still all day and flew away. Which of course is explained in Platinum, but I guess they decided to fly back home in HG/SS, which probably happened a few weeks after or before D/P/P.

I was okay with that Kanto too. After all it was only that long in Gen I because it belonged to the travels. I wouldnt want an ages long rocktunnel and mount moon anyway since it served its purpose and why should there not have been an earthquake and volcanoeruprion? After all it is three years after and not the same Kanto as in R/B. It is nice enough that they included it. and I don't understand people moaning baout the e plant . I hink it's cool they managed to put it into working again.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who feels the same way. I was sad to see the places gone, but in a world where we should understand geographical change, we should be able to adjust to it, especially if it's in a video game.

Yes, it really was that bad. Too bad if it annoys the hell out of you, but people have opinions.
Have you ever stopped to think that you might be the mindless person here?

The reason they kept Kanto destroyed in G/S/C was because they didn't have enough space to beef it up.
You should know that these games aren't there primarily for battles, but it is primarily there to let us have fun.
To a gamer who cares about nothing but to beat the game, it means nothing. But to gamers who enjoy the story and the elements in the game, it means a lot, a lot I must say. I know it means a lot to me.
But then again, there are some things that some people will just never understand, so don't counter againsts other's wanting those areas back without experiencing from their viewpoint.

And it mean a lot to me that the game designers actually stopped to think that Gen II Kanto shouldn't be exactly the same as Gen I Kanto because there's a 3 year difference. I thought Kanto was fun. The quest wasn't supposed to be as long as the primary region for Gen II, Johto. Kanto is more of a side quest, like the Sevii Islands in Gen III. Is that a mindless comment? I wouldn't say so.

Of couse I understand that we all have different view points. What kind of dull world would we live in without opinion? However, to say that the Power Plant, Seafoam islands, Viridian Forest etc. should not have changed from Gen I baffles me. As SilverSmeargleSplatter said, there are obviously going to be geographical changes 3 years later.

If it's to let us have fun (which it clearly is), then why the hell are people complaining about Kanto? Where's the fun lacking? People need to appreciate the work that Game Freak put into these games. They do the best they can. There's a such thing as restraints on those cartridges, as you said.

You also said not to counter against people wanting the areas back without experiencing it from their viewpoint? Why would I want to? Wasn't it you who said "Too bad if it annoys the hell out of you, but people have opinions."? Like, I said, I can understand why people would dislike Kanto, but I don't. My opinion is that Kanto was good. Therefore, I don't need to see it from anyone elses viewpoint.

To the above poster, I think that what annoyed people was not that there were changes per se, but that all the changes made were to either remove or shrink areas/features. I would have been fine with GSC Kanto if some expansions in other areas had been made to balance out the shrinking - maybe let us explore Cinnabar Volcano, or a new area of Cerulean Cave, or just anything. It didn't feel like Kanto had evolved over the three years, it felt like it had been bombed.
