I just got me a new Silver version after the one I had before got corrupted. Anyway here is my team right now:

    -Egg(a baby Cyndaquil should hatch)
    -Flaaffy Lv. 25
    -Scyther Lv. 23
    -Noctowl Lv. 24
    -Bayleef Lv. 27
    -Gengar Lv. 25

Right now I needed a good water pokemon but then I caught a Chinchou so now I am thinking of making it a member of the team because it's dual type is very interesting and I never took much notice of it. Am I better off sticking with Ampharos or should I raise Chinchou/Lanturn?

i think you should go on wit lanturn. you'll be able to fight off rock/ground types really well unlike ampharos. the only way ampharos could was if it new iron tail and i dont think you wanna waste it on ampharos.

you should just teach it thunderbolt, surf, water gun, and something else.

so basically pick lanturn over ampharos becuz they'll have the same weaknesses so it wouldnt matter which one you chose

I agree, I think you should go with Lanturn. Since you don't already have a water type it will be use full for Surfing and you can teach it Ice Beam using the move tutor in order for it to counter it's weakness to grass.

I am dropping Scyther for now because I can't get Metal Coat until after I beat the pokemon league, therefore Scyther would be at a higher level and evolving him late would be bad because he wouldn't learn such moves as Metal Claw and such.

I am trying to come up with a good moveset for Lanturn, is this ok?
    -Surf
    -Ice Beam
    -Thunder Wave
    -Confuse Ray

    One for Ampharos?
    -Thunderpunch/Thunderbolt
    -Thunder Wave
    -Fire Punch
    -??

I would have used Ice Punch to counter Ground/Rock types but then again that's where Lanturn and Meganium come in anyway right?

You really need to give Lanturn an electric move, ditch Confuse Ray and teach it Thunder Bolt

But I'm not far enough in the game to teach her thunderbolt, I won't be able to get the TM until after I beat the Pokemon League. You don't get it until Celadon City right?

I like Lanturn because it can learn Surf and Icebeam, But! Amphi can learn the element punches

Lantern. If it's a popularity contest though, Electabuz, Magneton, and Electrode are the winners.

Lanturn was arguably better in GSC. Because the traditional electric counter is earthquake, lanturn can either surf the most common users of it (Rock&Ground types) and has enough HP (Base 125) to survive low-powered EQs while it surfs again. Ampharos was usually used more offensively but doesnt have the speed stat to do it well when compared to the likes of jolteon.

    Lanturn.
    Look at it.
Ampharos can`t learn water type moves & Scyther could really help you.

Lanturn is the overall better choice. And you need a water pokemon anyway. XD

Lanturn is great, and has a nice movepool. Electric/Water is one of the best combinations in the game in Silver and is still one of my personal favorites. Lanturn also has MASSIVE HP. It has a base 125 HP, at maxed out, that's a whopping 453.

It's also great at surprising your friends (if you have any that play Pokemon Silver) Since they won't expect it to be electric type.

Lanturn because I say so because it isn't weak against Electric moves, only Grass ones (though it may be weak against Ground moves, I dunno...). Its unusual dual-type also allows it to learn an effective variety of moves, so it's a pretty good Pokemon in general; and becomes one of the staples of my team in any Pokemon game once I can get a Chinchou.

I find Lanturn more useful at the moment, it was hard because I like both Lanturn and Ampharos but Lanturn fills the role of 2 pokemon that way I can add another type like a Ground type to the team
