Laptop help

I need help choosing a laptop and need one that can help me just do all my high school projects and stuff like that basically I don't need something that cost alot with useless stuff I wont use I.E webcam and stuff like that.
Mostly just need help choosing brand and model so please thank you

Unless if you want to wait for Windows 7, get a cheap one now off newegg, or even best buy. Any computer can do high school stuff, it's the graphics etc that you're paying for. So it's best to find a low end one. Toshiba and HP are good products. Dell is okay if you don't plan on using it that often though, cause when they do break down, it is quite costly to repair.

also forgot to say this I need to have office home and student also and if it comes with the laptop i would love it I just need to find it cheap if it doesn't come with the laptop thanks for all the help guys

If you absolutely have to have Office, you can get the student discounted version here ($60, requires .edu email) or the Home/Student version here ($100). Though I would recommend at least trying the free OpenOffice.org first. It's good enough for most high school work, and feels a lot like Office XP; it can also save in the formats that Office uses (usually with no problems; just select "Microsoft Office XP DOC format" when you're saving). You can get OpenOffice.org here.

Dell have Office Home & Student available. You don't want OpenOffice; trust me ~ any of your school-work will stick out like a sore thumb if you're using it :X

I've done all of my work on OOo for as long as I can remember, and I've never had any complaints from any teachers or professors. I'm not saying in a professional setting that it will be good (I'd recommend StarOffice for that), but it should be more than good enough for high school work.

If you're doing things such as citing articles, or making bibliographies, I found that Microsoft office was quite helpful in that respect, though like the grammar and spelling check, not to be wholy depended on.

Do you mean stick out, because of how the font or style looks when printed out?

Yeah; the font's just look *different* to my eye for OpenOffice/Microsoft Office/iWork. Even if you select the same font across the board and test them all using the same material; you can still tell right away which one was printed in Microsoft Office.

I'd definately advise against HP. I've had an HP laptop die on me for no reason whatsoever, irrecoverably so. That's just one person's experience, granted, but also you should consider that HP laptops are offten monstrously overpriced for what they are.

That's not true, actually. I got my HP laptop for considerably less than an equal-spec dell would have cost.

Yeah HP laptops are generally well-priced. The ones I have seen anyway. They're also available at costco.

I find that it is Sony's vaio that tend to be overpriced, and it would seem that their laptops are hit and miss. But they tend to aim for higher quality, so you'd be paying too much.

thanks a lot guys I guess I'll choose a acer if not a hp and if I don't have enough for them I'll get a dell till i get a job so i can get a better laptop thanks for all the help. Cookies for all of you.
