Question: Latest Post Comments Received

Hi Everyone

I dunno if I am stupid or something but when I looked in my User CP under my recent subscribed threads and my infraction (lol) I had another category called "Latest Post Comments Received" what is that? Is it something new?

Is it something like a user page comment or something?
Or can I specifically comment on someones thread post to their user CP without it being seen in the thread?

Well, you can comment about people's posts by clicking this

(some forum styles have a different image for it if I recall correctly) which can be found somewhere around a post depending on what layout you're using. Basically, it just lets you comment on a post without having to reply to them and not letting them know who you are (but the staff can see them I think). And it has been around since the rep system was replaced, which was like winter 09?

It's the oft-overlooked remnants of the reputation system. You can make a comment so as to anonymously tell the user what you though of the post, whether you thought it was constructive or not or, as in the case of my most recent comments received, how well their fact checks are. XD

Yes! thats why I wasn't sure what it was, because the other forum let you see who posted it!

To avoid/prevent conflicts, post comments are sent and received as anonymous.

Just adding in, except for staff. Mods can see who gave them post comments, while smods and above can see everyone else's post comments and who gave it to them.

Personally, I wish the post comment system was used a little more, because rep was nice and I do enjoy receiving new post comments, but I guess it's just disappointing that as soon as rep died, people didn't really bother much about post comments, oh well.

actually I really like rep as well, and i think it would be good if you could have an option to show your username when posting a comment or if you like you can stay anon.
then you could have a little rep bar on your profile or something show how good or bad your rep is (not sure if you used to have something like this, I'm still fairly new) anyway I think it'd be really fun, obv some people will abuse it but eh they can be banned/warned etc.

Yeah, it was pretty much what we had... rep was basically dropped because people kept giving positive green rep for no reason just to raise their total rep, while giving red rep which was negative too often for no reason at all. That's exactly how it was, so instead of it being entirely dropped it was left at post comments. And I still think if it were to come back, showing usernames could have negative consequences. :x And people shouldn't need to be banned for giving out rep for no reason, it's... not that serious.

Anyway that's all what ifs, the chances of rep returning is very low.
