So I was fighting a friend on HG and I had a Ho-Oh in my party and lost the single battles. He said "I just proved you you that legendaries don't mean sh--!

So we went to doubles and I annihilated him in short order. He says "man, people who use legendaries in battle are "word removed."

Is there any credence to this platitude?

There seems to be this notion that legendaries as a whole are superior to your everyday pokemon.
But it depends on stats, movesets, personal strategy etc.
You cant win a battle solely on whether or not you use a legendary pokemon.
Not all of them are all they are cracked up to be.
    Just my opinion.

All legendary pokemon are beasts if you get the right movesets and good EVs. :D

and also how you use them.

Well, I beat him WITHOUT Ho-Oh four separate times and he still whined and said legendaries give an unfair advantage. After the fourth time, he said PSEUDO legendaries are for "pussies."

Is there some problem with pseudo legendaries now? I only ask because he's smarter with Pokemon than me and has much more online battle experience - he's just a sore loser.

You can use Legends (well by tournament rules) if they are not uber. If you don't know what uber Pokemon are, they are Pokemon banned from Tournaments because of the unfair stats, or move sets they could have. An example of an uber is Garchomp. Because of a certain moveset he is no longer allowed at tournaments. So that just proves even normal Pokemon can be ubers. Here are some legends I know for a fact that are not ubers:
    1. Azelf (Very good use for team)
    2. Regigigas
    3. Regirock
    4. Regice
    5. I think Registeel is not an uber too.
    6. Articuno
    7. Moltes
    8. Latias (Very good use for team)

...and I think that there is some more...Just tell your friend that not all Legends are cheap.

There are some Legendaries that are over-powered [Arceus], but some are not [Mew]. They are good additions to your team regardless what he says.
All-in-all, I think your friend is just bitter because he probably got his arse kicked by a few Legendaries when he started.

I think they're weak, considering I killed a Dialga with a Dunsparce alone. (Then again, the guy I fought was probably one of those kids who freshly caught a Dialga unnecessarily with a Masterball and thought, "O MEN, I COUGH A DAGLIA WITH A MATSERBALE, I MUST BE AWESOME, I CAN 0WN IN PBR NOw!!". :l

EDIT: Regardless, as Fxcking Tatertots said, some that aren't OP or Ubers are fine. Such as Mew, and MAYBE Jirachi. (And physical Darkrais. True men use physical Darkrais. (For the lulz.))
