I'm amazed at how many things became staples of my Pokemon LPs after just Snakewood and this game.
Active Crew:
Spoiler:
#1: Corin
- Species: Garchomp
- Gender: Female
- Portrait:
- Level during the finale: 97
- Type:
- Ability: Rough Skin (Damages enemies who attack Corin directly)
- Held Item: Dragon Claw (Boosts the power of Dragon moves)
- Final Stats:
- HP- 317
- Attack- 305 (!!)
- Defense - 209
- Sp. Attack - 181
- Sp. Defense - 158
- Speed- 275
- Moves:
- Move 1 - Dragon Claw
- Move 2 - Earthquake
- Move 3 - Bite
- Move 4 – Stone Edge
- Theme song: A Meeting with Destiny (Chrono Trigger)
- Idea/Name origin: Corrin from Fire Emblem Fates
- If applicable, what does said inspiration look like: Male Corrin / Female Corrin
- Met at: Is one of the three starter choices at Fells Town
- Overall analysis:
- Out of the normal Pokemon obtained on this adventure, Corin is the best. Garchomp are really good, even if the game had an unfair bias towards them compared to the other two starters. Her raw power and speed make her an absolute monster on the battlefield, even if other dragons and the occasional, dreaded ice cube manage to get in her way. It helps that her personality is mellow to contrast all of the crazy shit that happens over the course of the game.
- Species: Darkrai Lucario fusion
- Gender: Male
- Portrait:
- Level during the finale: 100
- Type:
- Ability: Intimidate (Halves enemy attack)
- Held Item: Nothing
- Final Stats:
- HP- 301
- Attack- 323 (!!)
- Defense - 223
- Sp. Attack - 290
- Sp. Defense - 204
- Speed- 273
- Moves:
- Move 1 - Void Bomb
- Move 2 - Shadow Claw
- Move 3 - Aerial Ace
- Move 4 – Aura Saber
- Theme song: Wings that Don't Reach (Live-A-Live - Normal) / Battle With Magus (Chrono Trigger - Normal)
- Idea/Name origin: Is named after the dragon slayer from Norse mythology.
- If applicable, what does said inspiration look like: Here.
- Met at: Douba Road at level 5.
- Overall analysis:
- Sigurd is... many things. He was originally created as an anti-cheating device strong enough to plow through Dark Rising's bullshit and to serve as a heroic counterpart to Darugis. But seeing as how the format for my Pokemon let's plays involve making the Pokemon themselves into characters... one thing lead into another and here we are.
- Battle-wise, he could solo the entire game. I'm not joking - his stats, typing and his two unique moves make him practically unstoppable. The only things that gave him a run for his money were Fafnir-S and the final boss, both of which know Aeroblast. The fact he has a team behind him only guarantees that I was able to make it through this abomination of a rom hack.
- Character-wise, he's one of the most tragic characters I've ever written. In terms of the LP's version of the plot, he indirectly caused all of it when he died during the Great Kalos War and his trainer became Darugis trying to revive him... on top of his sister rebelling against him out of mortal fear for her own life. Despite everything that happens to him, Sigurd is determined to make things right and save the day even if people are out to kill him left and right. He's ultimately a decent man that holds an impossible task on his shoulders and oh my god someone just give him a hug already.
- Species: Victini
- Gender: Male
- Portrait:
- Level during the finale: 97
- Type:
- Ability: Serene Grace (Increases the chances of the secondary effects of moves like flinching, burning, etc.)
- Held Item: Sacred Ash (Revives all party members when used)
- Final Stats:
- HP- 331
- Attack- 210
- Defense - 203
- Sp. Attack - 222
- Sp. Defense - 218
- Speed- 215
- Moves:
- Move 1 - Thunderbolt
- Move 2 - Zen Headbutt
- Move 3 - Signal Beam
- Move 4 – Fire Punch
- Theme song: The Apprentice 2 (Lunar Knights)
- Idea/Name origin: Alternate Germanic name for Sigurd. Means "victory" and "peace" / "protection".
- If applicable, what does said inspiration look like: None
- Met at: Aroma Town event at Level 32 (technically)
- Overall analysis:
- Siegfried is a cutie. With that out of the way, he's also a badass. Don't let those stats fool you - the coverage he had and Zen Headbutt's 100% flinch rate make him disgusting. It's amazing because even if you resist Zen Headbutt, you still flinch... so you could effectively wall anybody that's not a Dark type into oblivion as long as you don't miss. Character wise, he's supposed to be the youngest of Sigurd's family... but despite how happy and energetic he is, he can get just as serious as Sigurd himself. He's effectively part of a long line of people who keep Sigurd sane.
- Species: Lugia Lucario fusion
- Gender: Female
- Portrait:
- Level during the finale: 90 (It turns out that my saves for Chapter 16 were the broken PC ones, so I had to do that all over again - hence the inconsistency.)
- Type:
- Ability: Synchronize (Passes status effects such as paralysis, burning, poison, etc. back to the attacker)
- Held Item: None
- Final Stats:
- HP- 299
- Attack- 205
- Defense - 209
- Sp. Attack - 275
- Sp. Defense - 206
- Speed- 224
- Moves:
- Move 1 - Void Bomb
- Move 2 - Psychic
- Move 3 - Aeroblast
- Move 4 – Roost
- Theme song: Schala's Theme (Chrono Trigger - Normal) / Trap Factory (Megaman ZX - Battle)
- Idea/Name origin: Is named after the dragon that Sigurd in Norse Mythology slays (Fafnir) / Is named after the heroine from Norse Mythology (Signe)
- Joined team: After defeating Possessed Ash in the Malice Path.
- Overall analysis:
- Signe was originally designed to be the ultimate evil counterpart to Sigurd - opposite color scheming and typing, the same powers but stronger (130 attack vs 145 special attack) and the fact she's a Lucario like him. She whupped his ass even with access to Aura Saber and Void Bomb and I had to rely on the rest of the team so we could efficiently get rid of her. That said, even though she didn't do much at the end, expect great things in Dark Rising 2.
- Personality wise, Signe wasn't really a villain because she wanted to be. You have to imagine - barring the whole "helps kids at an orphanage" thing, her life used to be nothing but constant fear with the thought of Darugis killing her out if disinterest. She was convinced that all he had to do was wish it and then she'd be dead, hence why her defeat with Darugis's powers was such an eye-opener for her. With that said, even though she's gone over to the heroes's side, she still fears Darugis but would rather help her brother win than anything else.
- Species: Staraptor
- Gender: Female
- Portrait:
- Level during the finale: 94
- Type:
- Ability: Intimidate (Halves enemy attack)
- Held Item: Nothing
- Final Stats:
- HP- 275
- Attack- 321 (!!)
- Defense - 165
- Sp. Attack - 122
- Sp. Defense - 100
- Speed- 254
- Moves:
- Move 1 - Aerial Ace
- Move 2 - Fly
- Move 3 - Brick Break
- Move 4 – Double-Edge
- Theme song: Destiny (Megaman ZX Advent)
- Idea/Name origin: Nothing in particular
- If applicable, what does said inspiration look like: None
- Met at: Lavaburn Path at level 11.
- Overall analysis:
- Holy shit, look at that attack! That's only 2 less than Sigurd and he's supposed to be our murder machine! Staraptor is better than I remembered, apparently. But yes, Gale... she was effectively designed to be the distaff counterpart to Ace from the Snakewood let's play. She's quiet and aloof as opposed to Ace's more bombastic personality, and is much stronger to boot if those stats are anything to go by. She's been able to stay on the team as a fighter even after becoming our flygirl, which I find impressive.
- Species: Escavalier
- Gender: Male
- Portrait:
- Level during the finale: 91
- Type:
- Ability: Swarm (Increases the strength of Bug moves when HP is critical)
- Held Item: Nothing
- Final Stats:
- HP- 257
- Attack- 277
- Defense - 237
- Sp. Attack - 131
- Sp. Defense - 197
- Speed- 40
- Moves:
- Move 1 - Aerial Ace
- Move 2 - Toxic
- Move 3 - Megahorn
- Move 4 – Double-Edge
- Theme song: Frog's Theme (Chrono Trigger)
- Idea/Name origin: King Arthur
- If applicable, what does said inspiration look like: Here.
- Met at: Twist Woodlands at level 12
- Overall analysis:
- Arthur has to be one of my favorites of the normal Pokemon on Monica's team. Escavalier is a really cool Pokemon and his character is just so fun to me just because he's a battle-hungry bug knight. He's our team's tank and he does a damn good job if he's able to block stuff like Fafnir's Aeroblast without even flinching.
- Species: Floatzel
- Gender: Female
- Portrait:
- Level during the finale: 94
- Type:
- Ability: Water Veil (Prevents burns)
- Held Item: None
- Final Stats:
- HP- 282
- Attack- 244
- Defense - 124
- Sp. Attack - 204
- Sp. Defense - 123
- Speed- 250
- Moves:
- Move 1 - Strength
- Move 2 - Surf
- Move 3 - Ice Punch
- Move 4 – Waterfall
- Theme song: Squid Adler Stage (Megaman X5)
- Idea/Name origin: Nothing in particular.
- If applicable, what does said inspiration look like: Here.
- Met at: Waters Cavern at level 19
- Overall analysis:
- Wave was ultimately kind of meh, but I still liked her. She may not be the strongest (thanks to the Physical/Special split kind of screwing her over) or the fastest, but that's sort of what made her stand out in a way. Like nobody really has a Floatzel on their team. Granted, you could get a ton of better water types but we already have a Sigurd if things get tough.
The B-Team:
Spoiler:
#8: Bellamine
- Species: Gardevoir
- Gender: Female
- Portrait:
- Level during the finale: 83
- Type:
- Ability: Synchronize (Passes status effects such as paralysis, burning, poison, etc. back to the attacker)
- Held Item: Sand Cloak (An item snatched from Snakewood - lowers opponent's accuracy and makes Bellamine look cool)
- Final Stats:
- HP- 214
- Attack- 144
- Defense - 145
- Sp. Attack - 226
- Sp. Defense - 200
- Speed- 131
- Moves:
- Move 1 - Psychic
- Move 2 - Calm Mind
- Move 3 - Thief
- Move 4 – Shock Wave
- Theme song: Illusionary World (Final Fantasy 4 - Normal) / Heartache (Undertale - Battle)
- Idea/Name origin: Original concept
- If applicable, what does said inspiration look like: N/A
- Met: Falls Route at level 72
- Overall analysis:
- I find it incredibly interesting that I brought Bellamine back for another game. Granted, this is canonically a saga thanks to DRG mentioning Snakewood directly (ugh) so I guess it's appropriate. That said, she's actually weaker than she was at the end of Snakewood. She's the leader of the B-Team for a reason, because she's still able to kick some ass despite this.
- Story-wise, she acts in the same "overprotective mother" way to Monica as she did with Jack in their proper game. Here I think it mattered more than ever thanks to Monica's rapid decline into depression after the events of the story got to her. Still, I'm glad to have her along.
- Species: Gengar
- Gender: Female
- Portrait:
- Level during the finale: 76
- Type:
- Ability: Levitate (Immunity to ground moves)
- Held Item: None
- Final Stats:
- HP- 187
- Attack- 123
- Defense - 96
- Sp. Attack - 220
- Sp. Defense - 154
- Speed- 195
- Moves:
- Move 1 - Confuse Ray
- Move 2 - Will O Wisp
- Move 3 - Ice Punch
- Move 4 – Shadow Ball
- Theme song: War Agony (Darkstalkers 3)
- Idea/Name origin: Is named after the Norse goddess / realm of the dead.
- If applicable, what does said inspiration look like: Here.
- Met at: Voltair Forest at level 40.
- Overall analysis:
- Hel could have been even more gamebreaking than Sigurd, to be totally honest. Destiny Bond has been proven to break Dark Rising into a million pieces, but I refused because someone else did that already. That said, while the only special move in her arsenal is Ice Punch, Hel is another favorite of mine in terms of character. Despite the imposing nature of Gengar, she's really a sweet old lady.
- Species: Musharna
- Gender: Female
- Portrait:
- Level during the finale: 72
- Type:
- Ability: Synchronize (Passes status effects such as paralysis, burning, poison, etc. back to the attacker)
- Held Item: None
- Final Stats:
- HP- 269
- Attack- 129
- Defense - 139
- Sp. Attack - 153
- Sp. Defense - 149
- Speed- 72
- Moves:
- Move 1 - Shadow Ball
- Move 2 - Dream Eater
- Move 3 - Substitute
- Move 4 – Hypnosis
- Theme song: Scattering Blossoms (Chrono Trigger)
- Idea/Name origin: I just made it up off of the top of my head. Has nothing to do with the similarly named Yu-Gi-Oh character.
- If applicable, what does said inspiration look like: Here, I guess.
- Met at: Obtained from the Munna Event in Tiki Village at level 1.
- Overall analysis:
- Lumis lacked a lot of firepower but made up for it with actual strategy. Hypnosis, Substitute and Dream Eater make her a pretty dangerous opponent - hell, she managed to defeat one of the Uber Kyurems by HERSELF! That's just insane. She's an impressive tank and an even more effective support Pokemon. I loved writing out the flavor text that she says whenever she uses Dream Eater.

- Species: Charizard
- Gender: Male
- Portrait:
- Level during the finale: 80
- Type:
- Ability: Blaze (Boosts Fire moves if HP is critical.)
- Held Item: Nothing
- Final Stats:
- HP- 230
- Attack- 166
- Defense - 155
- Sp. Attack - 204
- Sp. Defense - 160
- Speed- 209
- Moves:
- Move 1 - Flamethrower
- Move 2 - Thunder Punch
- Move 3 - Wing Attack
- Move 4 – Dragon Pulse
- Theme song: Red Hot World (Megaman X5)
- Idea/Name origin: Original concept
- If applicable, what does said inspiration look like: N/A
- Met at: Atlantic Cave at level 10
- Overall analysis:
- Ignell was the king of cool even after Siegfried came along. I sort of hated how he had to be stuffed away because the A-Team was growing in power, so I'm glad I could actually put him to use with the rest of the B-Team. His amazing coverage and surprising special attack/speed made him the big guy of the B-Team (which, funnily enough, had him as the only dude. Fancy that). His jolly personality adds to all of this and I'm pretty sure the game would explode if he was allowed to Mega Evolve.
- Species: Whimsicott
- Gender: Female
- Portrait:
- Level during the finale: 73
- Type:
- Ability: Chlorophyll (Doubles speed in sunlight)
- Held Item: None
- Final Stats:
- HP- 194
- Attack- 116
- Defense - 102
- Sp. Attack - 131
- Sp. Defense - 146
- Speed- 202
- Moves:
- Move 1 - Leaf Blade
- Move 2 - Growth
- Move 3 - Leech Seed
- Move 4 – Stun Spore
- Theme song: Kiss of Jealousy (Live-A-Live)
- Idea/Name origin: Original concept
- If applicable, what does said inspiration look like: N/A
- Met at: Twist Woodlands at level 10
- Overall analysis:
- Much like Lumis, Sathala lacked the same strength as the others but made up with both strategy and style. Leech Seed is so good and Growth honestly makes Sathala really scary if she ever came across any Water or Ground Pokemon. To top it off, she's cute as a button but tough as nails. The moment when she managed to take down Typhoon's entire team by herself is impressive... but taking down one of the Uber Kyurems with the rest of the team is her crowning moment.
- Species: Eelektross
- Gender: Female
- Portrait:
- Level during the finale: 76
- Type:
- Ability: Levitate (Immunity to ground moves)
- Held Item: None
- Final Stats:
- HP- 232
- Attack- 218
- Defense - 147
- Sp. Attack - 187
- Sp. Defense - 147
- Speed- 107
- Moves:
- Move 1 - Water Pulse
- Move 2 - Sludge Bomb
- Move 3 - Flamethrower
- Move 4 – Thunderbolt
- Theme song: Blind Mode (Megaman Battle Network 3)
- Idea/Name origin: Off the top of my head
- If applicable, what does said inspiration look like: N/A
- Met at: Waters Cavern at level 20
- Overall analysis:
- Vera took quite a bit to become an Eelektross, but damn if that attack stat and moveset isn't telling. I don't normally use this Pokemon, but she proved more useful than I was expecting.
- Since Ground is the only weakness of Electric types and levitate removes that, she has a safer chance of switching into battle and is overall a pretty tough customer. I sorta had nothing regarding her character, so apologies for that.
Misc:
Spoiler:
#14: Candelabra
- Species: Chandelure
- Gender: Female
- Portrait:
- Level during the finale: 90
- Type:
- Ability: Shadow Tag (Prevents the opponent's escape)
- Held Item: Nothing
- Final Stats:
- HP- 210
- Attack- 119
- Defense - 167
- Sp. Attack - 282 (!!)
- Sp. Defense - 185
- Speed- 190
- Moves:
- Move 1 - Dark Pulse
- Move 2 - Pain Split
- Move 3 - Substitute
- Move 4 – Overheat
- Theme song: Subuta.2 (No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle)
- Idea/Name origin: Original concept
- If applicable, what does said inspiration look like: N/A
- Met: The Haunted Forest at the same level she is now
- Overall analysis:
- Can I say that I adore Chandelure? They're such a cute Pokemon to me. That said - Christ on a fucking pogo stick, that special attack stat is godlike. It's a shame she never actually got used in gameplay because she would have wrecked house. Oh well, I'll settle for her rough-but-sweet personality.
- Species: Celebi
- Gender: Female
- Portrait:
- Level during the finale: 70
- Type:
- Ability: Natural Cure (Recovers status ailments upon switching out)
- Held Item: None
- Final Stats: To be completely honest, I never actually caught Chloris. The same applies to Ace and Beatrice - they were simply cameos because I happened to stumble upon them as the story went on.
- Theme song: Minish Village (The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap)
- Idea/Name origin: Original concept, but the name comes from a nature nymph in Greek Mythology
- If applicable, what does said inspiration look like: N/A
- Met at: The Twilight Zone at level 70
- Overall analysis:
- She didn't really do much even in her home game, so I guess she continues the tradition here. Again, at least she's cute.
- Species: Roserade
- Gender: Female
- Portrait:
- Level during the finale: 75
- Type:
- Ability: Natural Cure (Recovers status ailments upon switching out)
- Held Item: None
- Final Stats: The same applies to Ace and Beatrice - they were simply cameos because I happened to stumble upon them as the story went on.
- Theme song: Commander Yammark stage (Megaman X6)
- Idea/Name origin: I just made it up off of the top of my head
- If applicable, what does said inspiration look like: N/A
- Met at: Drosera Fields at level 75
- Overall analysis:
- Another cameo character, but this one would have been rad as fuck if we had the chance to properly use her - I've wanted Beatrice to become a Roserade since Snakewood.
- Species: Swellow
- Gender: Male
- Portrait:
- Level during the finale: 65
- Type:
- Ability: Guts (Boosts Attack if afflicted by Burn, Paralyze, etc.)
- Held Item: None
- Final Stats: The same applies to Ace and Beatrice - they were simply cameos because I happened to stumble upon them as the story went on.
- Theme song: Comona (Ace Combat 4: Shattered Skies)
- Idea/Name origin: I just made it up off of the top of my head.
- If applicable, what does said inspiration look like: N/A
- Met at: Drosera Fields at level 65.
- Overall analysis:
- Ace meeting Gale is a cute idea to me. Sure, she'd probably bully him a little thanks to being tougher than him, but they'd get along just fine.
- Species: Arcanine
- Gender: Male
- Portrait:
- Level during the finale: 40
- Type:
- Ability: Intimidate (Halves the opponent's attack stat)
- Held Item: Rawst Berry (Cures a burn)
- Final Stats:
- HP- 151
- Attack- 125
- Defense - 90
- Sp. Attack - 114
- Sp. Defense - 99
- Speed- 93
- Moves:
- Move 1 - Flamethrower
- Move 2 - Roar
- Move 3 - Crunch
- Move 4 – Dig
- Theme song: Dogsong (Undertale)
- Idea/Name origin: Off the top of my mind
- If applicable, what does said inspiration look like: N/A
- Met at: Lavaburn Forest at level 14
- Overall analysis:
- PUPPY! But no seriously, I didn't have much to work with regarding Cinder. Arcanine is cool and all, but Drought Ninetales beat them out by a mile. I'm pretty sure it would have been appropriate to take Jeanne from the Snakewood let's play as an early cameo, to be honest, because that kind of power is the stuff that drives kings mad.
- Species: Reshiram
- Gender: Female
- Portrait:
- Level during the finale: 95
- Type:
- Ability: Flash Fire (Absorbs a Fire move to power up your own)
- Held Item: None
- Final Stats:
- HP- 299
- Attack- 250
- Defense - 224
- Sp. Attack - 304
- Sp. Defense - 235
- Speed- 209
- Moves:
- Move 1 - Earthquake
- Move 2 - Psychic
- Move 3 - Fire Blast
- Move 4 – Dragon Claw
- Theme song: The Desolate Domain (Shantae and the Pirate's Curse)
- Idea/Name origin: Based off of Okami Amaterasu, primarily
- If applicable, what does said inspiration look like: Here.
- Met at: Yin/Yang Island at level 95
- Overall analysis:
- Amaterasu would have been the best Fire and Dragon type on the entire team had I not settled on using Corin and Siegfried already. Her stats are olympian and while she didn't have much of a character, the information she had about Arceus is pretty damn important. I would have liked to have more stuff regarding Amaterasu, but oh well.
- Species: Giratina
- Gender: Male
- Portrait:
- Level during the finale: 98
- Type:
- Ability: Levitate (Immunity to ground moves)
- Held Item: None
- Final Stats:
- HP- 431 (!!)
- Attack- 292
- Defense - 223
- Sp. Attack - 234
- Sp. Defense - 223
- Speed- 195
- Moves:
- Move 1 - Shadow Claw
- Move 2 - Dragon Claw
- Move 3 - [empty]
- Move 4 – [empty]
- Theme song: Theme of Death 13 (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Heritage for the Future)
- Idea/Name origin: Is based on Death 13 from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, hence the "Lali-Ho" in his introduction chapter.
- If applicable, what does said inspiration look like: Here.
- Met at: Spirit Tower at level 98
- Overall analysis:
- Sheol is probably the strangest Pokemon I've ever had on the team. You were never meant to catch Giratina in the game, yet the game still let you... and you could get a million of them through a glitch. To top it off, he only has Shadow Claw and Dragon Claw and appears to permanently be in Origin Forme.
- I had to make his character fit his strange circumstances... so imagine a ten foot tall Satan dragon sitting around going "lali-ho" in a deep, stoic voice.
