---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[/font]
Spoiler:
Last time on Sailor Moon: Another Story, we dispelled the threats from Crystal Tokyo and purified all but one of the Opposito Senshi. Now we're going to hunt down Apsu and put an end to her schemes!
(About time, too.)
That boy better not have died on me otherwise I'mma get pissed. We spent what, like five chapters trying to bring him out of a coma?
That... wait, yeah it totally did. What's this about?
"A new tower is there…"
Woman don't tempt me, I've done crazy shit like this in the past.
Yes we'll quit and leave Tuxedo Mask in the timeless abyss because he's always giving us too much trouble – no, WHAT DO YOU EXPECT ME TO SAY, LUNA!?
See, Usagi knows what's up.
I should mention that the enemy encounters here have not changed since our first visit to the Space-Time Door (barring one exception) so if you haven't done much grinding before reaching this point then I pity you.
At least you have a second chance to get the chests here, hence why I wasn't freaking out over missable stuff here earlier.
Holy shit he actually beat Fiore? That's much better than what I was expecting if I really have to be honest. Have you seen his track record up to now? Dude has never actually won against someone in the anime, he's usually just a distraction and that's it.
Shouldn't be that difficult. I mean the only person left on her team is Sin and she doesn't even have the other villain forces to back her up anymore, so... easy clap.
"Right now we can't seem to free you."
They more or less repeat themselves for a bit before saying that if we lose, at least we'll die together.
Then the music changes to the Let's Go theme for the rest of the Tower of Time, so at least it's a bit more heroic than the creepy-ass normal theme for this place.
(Special note: You are not completely screwed if you need to train a bit more before fighting Apsu. This room has Combater As with incredible amounts of EXP, but you do need to be careful not to trigger the cutscene where Apsu is.)
[Current OST: Apsu]
"The one who tries to twist my fate to destruction."
Oh man she's on a roll with the "I will punish you" thing. Also wow Apsu, you really tried to pull the guilt card with all the crap you've done already? I've never seen a Sailor Moon villain with such a punchable face before.
[A circle of light appears beneath the Senshi]
"The Silver Crystal is my ward. Silver Crystal! Show us the new fate!"
[The screen pixellates out]
What the hell are you doing?
I just find it hilarious that she can annihilate eldritch abominations beyond the comprehension of man and beat up demonic aliens like it's nothing… yet she gets like 30s on her math tests.
Can't win 'em all, I suppose.
Was this meant to be a recreation of their meeting in the first episode or something? Cause I kinda don't see the point of this illusion.
"Sailor Moon's fate should have changed."
Oh it wasn't an illusion, it was Apsu trying to warp space and time to change Usagi's destiny. That… okay that's way more horrifying.
Why can I imagine this line being highlighted in a modern remake trailer for this game? It just seems perfect for that.
(Mercury kinda has a point though.)
Oh come the fuck on. You've made it this far yet now you're going to stop before we even make it to the finish line? Guys, please.
(I've just noticed that Uranus has not said anything. Maybe this is an Inner Senshi thing and that Jupiter was supposed to speak up, but we didn't bring her, so whoops.)
Said like a true leader.
"I was afraid…"
Whiplash, much? They sure got talked back in real quick, given all the illusions they suffered before this. Usagi sure has a way with words.
I'd like to see you try!

God damn she's strong. No wonder why she was the leader of the Opposito this entire time!
Apsu, otherwise known as Abzu, is a primeval Mesopotamian deity that also shares their name with a river. I'm not quite sure what the correlation is barring a vague "river = the flow of time" thing, but you got me.
I'm not sure if I've said this before, but I really dig Apsu's look. She's pretty unique visually and personality wise among the Sailor Moon big bads, especially given what her ultimate plan is.
(Yeah, aside from the "conquer everything" racket, but who knows what she was like before she was corrupted by darkness? I hold the theory that she's a breast cancer victim that tapped into taboo magic to fix her situation and it just went kinda FUBAR.)
Side note, I really love how they gave her the Opposito theme instead of the regular boss theme. Nice touch.
I am positive the devs threw Toxic Mist in as a breather attack, because...
Yeah, that's just her normal attack. God help you if you are not prepared.
Hell Attack is pretty terrifying, but apparently she has her own unique attack called Black Sun. Her forehead accessory makes sense now, even if it was already cool.
Pretty funny how Moon and Mercury take barely any damage, though. That's how borked the damage scaling is if you're in the back row.
As long as you have a large enough stock of healing items and use Mercury's Shabon Spray to lower Apsu's attack, this shouldn't be too much of a hassle.
Grinding immediately before the boss would also be super beneficial, but I've already done more than my fair share.
... Surprisingly little EXP for that fight, though. Those numbers don't inspire confidence, either...
Huh? Apsu's just gone? Not even a final word? Strange…
[The screen starts to shake]
Oh god, it's a timequake! We'd better move if we don't want to get erased from reality or something!
Ain't no thang.
[The tower crumbles into the endless abyss]
Is the Tower of Time meant to be a distortion or something? I don't really know, given how we don't really see the inside of the Space Time Door in the anime or manga.
Oh right the comet from the game's intro! Shit, I completely forgot it existed.
This thing always seems to be the answer in a pinch, I swear...
What kind of computer is Mercury using that she's able to calculate time inside of the void?
[Current OST: Title Screen Theme]
The girls recite their transformation phrases and…
[A teal sphere of light exudes from the team]
[The light pierces out from the Crystal Palace into the sky]
Huh. Wasn't this part of Apsu's master plan or something? We just kinda ruined everything she had planned, even if I don't know quite what the comet was going to be used for.
Of course we did.
[Canned laughter from Sailor Moon fans plays in the distance]
Did you guys hear something? Either way, it's interesting to note that in the manga at least, Tuxedo Mask was actually able to take down some bad guys.
Sit back and relax while the big girls do this, mate. You've earned a rest.
"Why… How can I be beaten? I don't want to die… Somebody… somebody, give me strength!"
This is especially noteworthy because every other Sailor Moon big bad is usually far stronger than the main team to the point where they don't really falter, yet Apsu gets curbstomped so badly that she's actually pleading for someone to help her.
I'm really digging the direction they want with the Opposito and Apsu, just sayin'.
[Sin appears over the void]
"I'll give you my strength. Let's start a new fate... if you live, Anshar and I can live in peace!"
[Sin and Apsu merge together]
Hoo boy this is not going to end well.
"What is that evil energy?"
That's pretty messed up.
Gotta admit I love stories that give you reasons why only the playable characters can delve into the depths of the enemy territory, so this is pretty rad.
... That said, how are Neo Queen Serenity and King Endymion in danger? Aren't they supposed to be Future Usagi and Mamoru? Wow, settling down and establishing a kingdom must have dulled their combat skills something fierce.
It was kinda obvious. They realize that Sin is still alive too, and head off towards the basement thanks to Mercury's supercomputer.
(There's nothing important in the two chests we've seen this entire cutscene.)
Yellow crystals... oof, if this entire setting and the beautiful music does not scream final boss prep room then I don't know what does.
Why do I get a bad feeling from this entire conversation? Ech, must be nothing.
Well said.
(Technically Neo Queen Serenity is you, Usagi? if you bite it, Chibi-Usa will not only not have a mother but she won't, like… exist? This entire situation's pretty screwed. Chibi's pretty brave for volunteering to fight, though.)
The final party arrangement... let's make this count!
It's funny how Chibi-Moon doesn't get a use at all during the end of the game, but them's the breaks.
We're ending this off in style with a full Inners team while Chibi gets all the Outers. Tuxedo Mask would have broken the balance in many ways, so sorry bud.
Once we step through that door, it's go time.
Important note: If you don't like the Senshi you brought along, talking to the Senshi other than Chibi-Moon will bring up the team arrangement menu again.
The same thing will happen if you exit the Crystal Palace altogether.
Let's also change up the formation for once to get some variety. I wonder how well this'll do?
What the hell? Does Neo Queen Serenity have a back door into the Tower of Time? This is getting weird…
[A transformed Apsu appears over the void]
Whoa, what happened to your face?!
Usagi says what everyone's thinking because this woman's insane.
This is what, the fourth time she's pulled it out? Doesn't matter, cause this is still the most appropriate use of it.
[Dread of Night]
Wait, what? That's not the song that's meant to be playing! And why isn't the enemy bio showing up?
Oh well, this entire battleground looks sick as hell. Demon Apsu also looks badass for a final boss with the colors and that dragon head, so I approve.
Let's see what we can d-
So uh. Remember what I said about a bad feeling earlier? This is what I meant.
This is Fin de Siècle (french for "End of the Century"), the most powerful attack in the game bar none and it SHOWS. It was mistranslated to Fan Do Sheckle of all things, which has to be the most unfortunate butchering of an attack name I've seen yet.
Wow, we really ballsed that one up, huh? It's almost as if I threw the fight on purpose...? Naw, I couldn't have.
"At this rate, the world… Everyone…"
Okay to be serious for one second, Demon Apsu really is that damn strong. Defeating her is a definite accomplishment, so as a final boss she's no joke.
[Chibi-Moon runs in from behind]
She… she has a point. It doesn't mitigate the awesome factor of Chibi-Moon stepping in to save the day from mortal peril, though, cause they totally could have just given us a game over and that's it.
"Bad guys like you… I'll punish you! In the name of the future moon!!"
She's growing up so fast.
[Not the actual final boss theme either: Vs. Metal Attacker]
Name: Demon Apsu (Chibi Moon Version)
HP: 80,000
Attack: 97
Defense: 15
Speed: 80
EXP: 0
Yen: 0
Item Drop: Nothing
Allegiance: Hell Destiny, aka. Opposito Senshi

So... yeah, there's actually two versions of the final boss based on if you die to the super difficult normal version. Chibi's is uber nerfed, to the point where this Apsu is no different from a trash mob monster barring her health.
Chibi's Demon Apsu has one of lowest defense ratings for a boss yet, especially for this point in the game. It makes sense because the formation you use will get messed up due to it being outside of your control.
(The attack she used was the same Fin de Siècle that wiped out Moon and the Inners. That's how far Apsu got knocked down stat-wise.)
Yeah... there's no way you can lose this fight, and I'm pretty sure it's just a normal game over if Apsu somehow manages to wipe you out.
A bit of a hollow victory with how easy it was, but we still got it done.
[Current OST: Opposite Soldier]
"I saved Mama and Papa!"
[Apsu releases a wave of dark energy, but Anshar appears in front of Chibi to absorb it]
How did them fusing together create this dragon head monster thing? Is it leftover residue from the comet?
[An image of Sin forms in front of him]
Obsession drives people into madness. She loved her brother so much she lost sight of what was important.
[Something stops Apsu from attacking]
You know what, it makes sense. If you can't control both minds in a fusion, you're pretty much useless.
[A pillar of purple light envelops Apsu]
"My body is disappearing… Gwaaaaahhhh!"
[Only Sin is left behind]
[Current OST: Sadness]
[Both him and Sin vanish into the void]
She cries out his name one more time before the screen blacks out…
[Current OST: Crystal Tokyo Palace]
"I can't see Anshar anymore…?"
The most reasonable comment comes from Usagi, surprisingly.
Oh, that's bull.
You said it, holy crap. So if Chibi-Usa ever tries to strike up a relationship with Anshar, she could wind up undoing everything we've worked so hard for in this game.
Cruel is right, jeez.
Saturn says that the more time they spend away from this incident, the more possibility a time screw-up won't happen, but… Pluto comes in to crush the small girl's dreams by saying that "by the time it's not a problem, it'll be too late for you two to be together".
[The screen pixellates out, cutting to Crystal Tokyo. Chibi and Anshar wind up bumping into each other]
[She looks at the boy]
[Current OST: Sadness]
[She sees the pendant Anshar dropped on the ground]
[Sin runs in to see the situation]
Close call, whoof.
[The siblings go offscreen]
[Setsuna walks in from behind]
Star crossed lovers at such a young age... sheesh.
[They walk towards the right side of the screen, with Setsuna being the only one out of frame]
"I love you!"
She's just a kid! Come on, don't do this to her!
[Bell gong SFX]
I'm kinda without words on what to say here, so I'll just say that I like this picture of the Crystal Palace.
Yep, that's it! We defeated the final boss and the credits are rolling, so I think it's safe to say the game is over.
In all seriousness though, you guys could have done a better job at translating the game because this is just nuts. It was a long time ago, but still.
Ech. I'm not satisfied with that ending at all, given what happened to poor Chibi-Usa and the fact that we didn't really win in the grand scheme. The final boss was easier, but we got the bad ending as a punishment.
So you know what? Let's turn back time and change the game's destiny ourselves!
[Click, kaboom SFX]
Whoo... I can't believe I pulled it off.
Good thing I had those saves from a previous chapter, otherwise this would have been impossible. I'm gathering the rest of the puzzle pieces that we neglected to collect, since the Crystal Tokyo / Dark Castle monsters don't drop any.
Yeah, for some reason... enemies just stop dropping puzzle pieces after a while, so if you're not even close to building the puzzle towards the end of the game then you're pretty screwed.
Remember this passage in the snow village? It was originally the way to get to Nabu back in Mercury's solo chapter, but here... wait, WHOA.
The asshole-o-meter exploded yet again! Man, I can't keep getting a new computer every time this happens!
... What the heck...?
[The team walks forward, only to... get rushed by a dragon!?]
Holy-!

Even the final boss doesn't have attack or defense that high! What the hell, man? Then hits you: this is the game's only optional superboss. Fascinating to say the least, but I feel nothing but sympathy for the poor saps who accidentally wander into here checking for new stuff.
You're probably wondering though: a dragon in Sailor Moon? What kind of crazy plot does this thing come from and why are they listed under the human antagonist bio instead of the monster one?
When did the Black Moon have a dragon!? Aren't they like, space invaders with magic crystal androids?
It'll all make sense in a bit, trust me.
I'm ultra-buffing the entire team to deal with this guy because they are extremely vicious.
I'm not holding anything back here because the Dragon will destroy you with their sky-high 200 attack.
My strategy for this fight was to Time Stop, buff and heal if they were able to escape from the stunlock. I'm pretty sure the Final Boss is even stronger with Fin De Siecle... but this is encountered during an earlier part of the game. If you plan on fighting the Dragon I suggest heavy preparation combined with drowning them in cheese.
Moon finishes it off in style and nets us a Fragrance for our troubles.
Oh okay, the Dragon was really this green-haired lady the entire time. Makes sense.
Interesting... did us beating her up dispel her dragon form? That's pretty funky, but if it was a curse then of course we could turn her back to normal.
For context, this boss is only available during the section where you can pilot the Ark, but before the Dark Kingdom invasion of the Moon. We're that far back, buckos.
[She takes a pause and observes our team]
Name: Esmeraude

Allegiance: Black Moon Clan

* If applicable, what was their debut in the show/manga: Sailor Moon R, episode 27 / Act 15 - Infiltration, Sailor Mars
I'm surprised Esmeraude even appeared in this game at all, given how her fate was to be cursed into that dragon form by the Wiseman.
Anyway, the 90s dub fans might remember her as that lady who does the Noblewoman's Laugh a bit too much for her own good but honestly I remember her more as the lady who gave Rubeus a sick burn.
So, Rubeus tried to take all the Senshi down with him by blowing up his ship. Esmerade comes around in her own ship, appearing to be his savior due to them also being Black Moon Clan.
Well, she straight up tells him "nah" and leaves him to die on his burning ship with no way out. That's stone cold and I love it. (
Esmeraude is no joke either, because she's just as tough and fast as her dragon form but has 4 more defense. The fact we're doing this much damage with the Fragrance boost is kind of a miracle.
As you can see, she does nearly double Mars's health in one attack. A two-phase superboss with higher stats than the final boss? Man, it's a good thing that Red Pupil is really worth it cause good god.
Spamming Venus Wink Sword and Mars Fire Snake with a healthy amount of Time Stop was the best way to do this fight, honestly.
It's the safest way, especially since Esmeraude can hit everyone with Whirlwind Cut.
Excellent work, team.
[Esmeraude vanishes]
She sure put up a fight, but I'm afraid it wasn't enough to count.
Why did Prince Diamond even want Usagi when he has someone like Esmeraude on his team? Like come on, dude.
I can feel the power!!
Two Red Pupils is just cheating, and that's not even all the cool super-equipment we're getting!
Oh what are you laughing about, Beryl? You're gonna lose no matter what timeline you appear in.
Mimete you couldn't even beat Twister, how could you possibly stand a chance against us?
(By the way, the time between these screenshots are hours apart. If the timestamps are correct, I started making this chapter around 6:00 PM and finished retreading plot/grinding two hours later at 8:34 PM. It was pretty draining if I have to be honest, but well worth the effort.)
Th... there's a pink merchant man in the Crystal Palace. I gotta admit I like the shade he chose, but what's this guy's story? Is this Neo Queen Serenity's royal treasurer?
Oh, so this is what the puzzle is used for... in an area right before the final boss. You know what, it's the best place it could have been put at.
If you haven't collected all the pieces, then this room is useless to you. But for us though...
He gets super happy and congratulates us with ten Angel Hairpins, the final equipment pieces for all of the Senshi that aren't Red Pupils.
In fact, let's see how the puzzle looks now that it's finished.
Oh my god, it actually looks really good. Even without the angel hairpin reward it was well worth it to complete this puzzle.
I'm keeping this as a commemoration piece for completing the let's play.
There's enough to go around for every party member, and the boost they give to every stat is pretty substantial.
Here's what it looks like when you try to leave the Crystal Palace to do some more grinding, so at least you get the chance to train up who you're going to bring.
I might also take this time to show off some special attacks.
Here's Sailor Shoot Attack. It's technically the weakest of the five-person group attacks, but I like how each formation has a unique special move.
Here's Sailor Arrow Attack. An image of Princess Serenity appears and shoots a nuke arrow at the entire enemy party. It doesn't do much, but it still looks really cool.
Sailor Victory Attack is just an explosion, but damn if that damage isn't attractive. It's not even the strongest one!

No more messing around, we're doing this fight for real. Demon Apsu is an amazingly fearsome final boss, even to the point where even though Esmeraude has higher base stats, Apsu has more powerful attacks.
I chose a full Inners team because cheesing Apsu out with Time Stop would be boring. Plus, having all the Inners just feels right to me.
Hell Attack from True Demon Apsu packs a wallop, so have your frontline fighters defend at all costs while your back row buffs up.
Shabon Spray and Healing Shower make a good combination, but it's just a shame you can only buff/debuff one time. The game doesn't play fair, why should you?
These are the kinds of numbers I like to see.
If we didn't have the angel pins or the extra Red Pupil, we would have been grinding for a lot longer and I don't like that, no sir.
N... no, not yet. I really want to, but I don't think Demon Apsu is even close to dead yet and there's a damage cap of 9999.
Better to save it for later.
This gif is the perfect play-by-play explanation for how turns kept going until the big finale. Mars would often get very close to dying, but Mercury's Toilette would undo the damage Apsu did while also rejuvenating our MP. We had a lot of them, so I wasn't afraid of running out any time soon.
Let's finish this.
[The team charges up for a Sailor Planet Attack]
You're done! Game over, Apsu!
[Current OST: Sadness]
"I am defeated… But I'll just return again and toy once more with your fates…"
Man, just stand down already. You really can't recover from that one.
(Why's it always Luna who has to tell Usagi and Chibi to use their Silver Crystals?)
[Apsu disintegrates, leaving only Sin behind. The void fades to black, with our heroes appearing back in Crystal Tokyo]
Redeeming enemies is just her thing, man! As long as you're not like, a sociopath or the literal embodiment of evil, she's always willing to extend a hand in friendship.
Oh, quit being a baby you still have -
What Mercury said.
Awwww, this is surprisingly wholesome after all the stuff we went through.
"Thank you..."
So what exactly changed things here? Was Chibi's Silver Crystal not powerful enough to stop the time thing? I definitely know that Anshar interfering would cause problems with him taking the brunt of Demon Apsu's attack, so that may be it.
[He shows her the heart-shaped pendant]
"I thought I lost it during the parade. Thank you… you had it all along."
[She leans in and -]
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
I can't handle it, I'm going to die of terminal adorable.
You lucky guy, getting a kiss from the princess.
Honestly with everything he's had to endure this entire game, this is way more satisfying than what the Bad Ending threw at us.
Oh man it's always awkward when the parents learn about your first kiss.
Uh…
Thanks for the save Jupiter, cause that was about to turn weird real quick.
"Sailor Moon, take care of Small Lady."
Awww, already? I don't want to say goodbye to Time Stop, even if I don't use it unless it's absolutely necessary.
[Pluto disappears]
[Current OST: Friends]
Is… is this a fourth wall break? I can't really tell.
[Usagi blushes]
(Side-note: It's weird seeing the soldiers in their civilian clothes after so long.)
We defeated every single opponent in the series so far and then some. I'd be amazed if anybody was still around to cause trouble.
Don't scare me like that, jeez.
Ohhhh boy this is gonna take a bit to explain.
So! After Saturn and Moon defeat Pharaoh 90, the cost of Hotaru using her Sailor Saturn planet buster powers was to revert back into a baby. Haruka and Michiru volunteered to raise her as their child alongside the now cured Dr. Tomoe.
The story of Sailor Moon gets pretty wild sometimes.
Dude. She was ready to nuke the planet if we couldn't defeat Demon Apsu. That's CRAZY.
We sure dodged a bullet on that one, huh?
[Hotaru floats into the air and, in a flash of light, reverts into the form of a baby]
It's weird how destiny works. We could save Sin and the Opposito from getting trapped in a vicious cycle of hatred, yet Hotaru can't stop herself from turning back into a child.
Haruka's words are pretty heavy. I'm kinda content with this happy ending, do we have to fight more bad guys later on?
(Never change, you big meatball.)
Fighting the literal Deity of Destruction was fine, but studying for the exams? Literally impossible.
[Everyone but Chibi and Usagi walk offscreen, followed by a cut to black]
"It's time for dinner!"
[Both girls go inside, with both of them saying "I'm home"]
[Current OST: Title Screen Theme]
Well, that's really it, huh? We saved the world (and maybe all of time now that I think about it) from the clutches of Shaman Apsu, redeemed the Opposito and even got Chibi-Usa a boyfriend.
All in all, a complete success.
This game, man... it's not the best, but it invokes such strong emotions from me (mostly positive) that I can't help but love it. I really do yearn for a modern remake, but that's still firmly pipe dream territory because I don't think they even make Sailor Moon games anymore... let alone a game this ambitious.
That said, I hope you all enjoyed it and finishing this for me has been especially cathartic. That stems mainly from, well... I don't think most people have even seen the true ending with how hard Demon Apsu is.
The character bios and the final thoughts are bound to come up soon, but for now?

~Fun Sailor Moon Fact~:
I honestly don't have much left that I haven't already covered, so I'll just say that Ms. Naoko Takeuchi was born on March 15th, 1967.
(If it were one month later it would be in my birthmonth, but alas.)
