    LaytonsGal's Living Dex Journey
    *:・゚✧*:・゚

Hi there! I'm LaytonsGal and recently, I decided I'd try doing a "living dex" challenge.
(If you've never heard of this, click here!)
I've played Pokemon since childhood, and I've essentially played each generation in order as they've released. While I love the games and I've played them forever, I've never actually completed a Pokedex in any fashion. Ironically, "gotta catch em' all", was never a catchphrase I followed lol
However, since I own all the mainline games, still have the hardware and I replay the games a lot- I figured why not try to actually do a living dex?

Despite really liking the most recent games, I decided for now I'd focus on making a living dex in Sun.
I really like gen 7 and it just seemed like a fun title to pick for this challenge, since I love the 3ds.
For this introductory post, I'll be breaking down the process I'll be doing and establishing what games/hardware I'm using. Keep in mind, I'm not really following a set guide for this, the only outside help I'm using is the amazing website, Poke Tracker!

What hardware and games am I using?
Just because, I'll list out what all games/versions I'm using!
    - Yellow (VC)
    - Crystal (VC)
    - Leafgreen
    - Emerald
    - Diamond
    - Alpha Sapphire
    - Black
    - Y
    - Sun (the main game where every Pokemon is going)

    - 3ds
    - 2ds
    - DS Lite

    1. Transfer Pokemon from Leafgreen and Emerald over to HeartGold.
Despite the fact I have the virtual console editions of Crystal and Yellow, and ultimately I shouldn't need to rely on transferring up from that far back, I really liked the idea of making this dex special and have it be comprised of Pokemon I've had forever. Sadly, my Leafgreen no longer has my childhood save, so I didn't transfer a ton from it, I did some. However, Emerald I transferred a lot from. Using the Pokemon duplication glitch, I made copies of all my favorite Pokemon from my childhood Emerald save, as well as a ton of Legendaries that I had. As well as just transferred over some ones I wanted to.
(I'll make a full list in my next post)
    2. Transfer all those Pokemon up to Black
As of writing this post, this is sadly the step I'm still at. I forgot that last year I restarted my Black cartridge and was up to the 5th gym badge. So I'm finishing that out to get to the point where I can access the facility that lets you transfer multiple at a time (because good lord knows I am NOT trading pokemon 1 by 1 XD)
    3. Transferring all those to Sun
Finally, once everyone is on Black, I'll send them all to Sun via Pokemon Bank/Transfer tool. After this, I'll be done with all the older hardware/cartridges. (Besides Diamond)
    4. Update Poke Dex tracker
Now, I'll massively update on Poke tracker and work out where to go from there. I'll likely go in order of generation and focus on Yellow, Crystal, Alpha Sapphire, Diamond, Black, Y, in that order. As I go through these games and get all the Pokemon I need, I'll update the dex tracker as needed.
    5. Sun Run through
Finally, I'll be assessing what all I still need in Sun's main pokedex and doing clean up.
    6. Breeding
The final step will be breeding any Pokemon I need in order to have previous stages of. (For instance, breeding Charizard so I can get a Charmander and Charmeleon) I'll be honest- THIS part of the living dex for me is the least appealing.
I know the entire point is to have a complete Pokedex and be able to look in your boxes and see each stage- but since this is my least favorite aspect I'm just gonna save this for the end. Some of them I'll likely be able to catch anyway and won't need to breed, but of course some will.

And I think that's about it?
Obviously I don't have the exact optimization of this down and likely along my way I'll probably discover there's more Pokemon than I think that I won't need to transfer up, but I'm just gonna plan on it and take it step by step.
I'm accepting that this will likely take me a while and I'm fine with that. That's part of what will make this fun for me is going at my own pace and figuring out a good game plan.

Thank you so much for checking this out, and next time we'll take a look at progress + a look at some of my childhood Pokemon!
