Ok, after just installing Ubuntu Linux on one of my computers, I'm pretty interested if anyone else here uses it. I've found it to be very nice...some things worse than Windows, but a lot better.

So anyone else here actually have it installed~?

I've got it installed. I'm slowly learning Python, so I can pretty much do what I want on here. Ubuntu rules...I love the way you can add applications without having to do all kinds of weird searching for them. Ubuntu rules...if only some of my Windows programs worked on it, it'd be perfect.

I used to, until my homeschool required me to you special software made for Windows. I still use the Kanotix LiveCD for some things, but not really much else.

I used Kubuntu and Slackware.

I use it but I use Debian. That's the one we all pretty much use. :p

I wan't to try it on my 2 year old computer, but I don't know where to get it. Where did you get your copy Paul?

I've been playing with various distros: SuSE, Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Red Hat, etc. I still haven't settled on one; I'm going to try Gentoo next. Ubuntu's nice but I don't like GNOME, and Kubuntu has a particularly nasty implementation of KDE. SuSE was prettiest but not right for my coding needs.

Linux Format magazine. One of the cheapest magazines out there that comes with tons of applications on two CDs and a DVD. For only $15.

Ok, so in my late Linux craze, I just got Mandriva now ^^" I'm trying to get my modem to work ._. _downloaded linux drivers_ _hope the work_

The most annoying thing about Linux is that I have dialup and it takes me over a week to download one ISO, install it, and decide that I don't like it. x_x

I've got SuSE and Knoppix installed on VPC, and i like them, nice GUI, and the amount of built in features is nice....plus for some weird reason i get 4x my usual download speeds.:)

The Mighty Jedi Master falls to a Padawan. :p

Most annoying part for me is it's at the top of my OS list so I have to go down when I want to boot into XP. :p I haven't found any good uses for Debian yet other than Gimp and the fact that if Windows is really annoying me I can just use that. :p

I have used it before and liked it, although it could have used a few more stylish themes.

What are the specs? We might be able to help you choose a distro.

All to true. Then again, I have cable and it's STILL a pain to download an ISO, much less an entire set of them. I'd hate to try downloading the SuSE DVD(s) with anything less than a T1 connection. O_o;

KDE is well known for it's customizable GUI. kde-look.org has tons to choose from, although still not as many as Windows, IMO.

I'm really having problems with my modem <<"

There's no module that'll handle it ._. And the command "make 536" is saying I'm missing kernal files or something <<"

Reinstall the kernel? o_o What modem do you have then? Are there specific Linux drivers for it?

KDe Linux is quite popular in Argentina (most cheap Celeron computers have it), but I never used anything other than Windows. I prefer not to risk to have bad compatibility issues.

It does, but not specific to Mandriva. I just tried to use the Mandrake ones. I thought they'd be compatible o_O But I still get errors from it.

Wierd. It's the Intel 536EP modem.

Install it ;P

I managed to get the installation pretty right o_O So it can't be that hard. Takes awhile, and it's a BIOS type installation. Not pretty, and no GUI of course.
