I claim no ownership of this idea, however, I am reposting it to prevent me from preforming diabolical thread necromancy.

    The Local Environment Challenge

    Rules:
+ 4th gen only, please! ((At least until 5th gen is released.))
+ You must pick two areas from around where you live. You may only use pokemon that are logically appropriate for your areas. See the list below if you are confused, and don't be afraid to ask questions!
+ State your starters. You get two starters, ((One from each area you have chosen)) both after you get your official starter. Since no standard starters are on the list, You have to go with an alternate.
+ Hacking using appear codes for 1-2 team members plus your starters is fine, but only in the event that they aren't catchable before the first gym...which is most pokemon. In a different case, you may also hack to replace your starter pokemon with one more appropriate, in wich case you only get one caught starter. All other hacking is not allowed.
+ You may not use legendary pokemon.
+ Trading is not allowed...unless you do not own an action replay for the appear codes. This applys to even in-game trades.
+ You may never breed on one game, then trade the eggs over to this one. The same applys for babies.
    + Emulators are fine.
+ The Challenge ends when you beat the elite four for the first time. If you wish to continue through the other events, go on ahead!
    + Have fun!

Questions I'm sure are being asked:
    - Wait, why do you let us hack but not breed?!
The answer to this is actually rather simple: in trying to dodge Pichus with thunderbolt, thunder, and volt tackle, a level two pidgey fails HARD. In exploiting egg moves, you effectively cut the challenge level in the early part of the game. And this is supposed to be challenging, after all.
Also note, when you hack a pokemon using the appear codes, they appear with the exact moveset that they would have had they appeared normally at that level, no egg moves attached. If you are so worried about tarnishing your record, however, you may Ditto-breed a few babies.

    - Imma gonna hack a lvl 2 metagross lolololol!!1
Be smart. If your pokemon evolves at a set level higher than the level you obtain it at, then be prepared to get removed from the list.
There are exeptions for special method evolution pokemon, however. If your pokemon's pre-evolution could evolve as early as level 1-2, such as a baby pokemon with happiness, or an eeveelution with a stone, I will allow it. Especially Glaceon and Leafeon, since they cannot be obtained outside of D/P/Pt.

    - Will there ever be an ultimate challenge for this?
Probably not, because in the early gens, there were barely any pokemon that were suited to certain specific biomes, like forest. Sorry.

    - I looked at the list of pokemon...is this somewhat like dual type challenge?
No, not really. You may ask for exeptions to the rules at any time. As long as they are logical, I'll allow it. Also, the Misc. Section is your friend! *Brick*

None yet...let's not keep it that way, eh?

    Starters: Chikorita, Rattata

I'd like to request Magmar, Golduck (Psyduck) and Meganium, for they can learn Rock climb. Must they all know Rock Climb by the end of the challenge?

With this potential team- I wouldn't need an HM slave.

If not, then my other starter is Sandshrew (Rock climb).

Edit: I just re-read the rules, so I'm guessing no Chikorita/Meganium.

So what if I live in a rural area that is heavily forested, with no mountains (some hills, but that's it) and a temperate climate?

There would be no other area than forest to choose for me.

    @Zanel: Magmar is fine.

@Mondays suck: Do City, but feel free to request grass types in addition.

@Impo: If you have already started, you may keep your pokemon. Otherwise, no egg move on the Clefable.

EDIT: Gah, meant something city instead of desert, sorry mondays suck.

Yay Magmar. I'll get Magby via Pokewalker.

I'll [re]start with Rattata and Togepi then.

    Updating soon.

Are you only allowed two Pokemon in total?

My computer doesn't do well with 4th Gen emulators and I don't want to start a new Platinum or Heart Gold because of how much I've been collecting on them. Is it possible for me to use Emerald? If so I would love to join. I enjoy challenges and think my location would be very fun to try with. Heh... I live on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Totodile should definetely go in my party. So should Muk because of the spill! Just kidding. But yeah I would really enjoy it if I could use Emerald.

    Thanks for listening!

    With all regards,

    -ChrisTom
