3rd Gen Low Level Legendaries = Highly Problematic

Is it just me, or does it not matter what level a legendary Pok?mon is, because they're always such a pain to capture.

Say you fought a level 5 Pidgey, and then a level 50 Pidgey, the level 5 one would be incredibly simple to capture with a basic ol' Pok? Ball, whereas the level 50 Pidgey would perhaps take a little more effort.

Now take a level 5 Deoxys, and then a level 50 Deoxys.
The level 50 one would be highly difficult to capture due to it being a high level legendary, as are pretty much all legendaries, well, all except Rayquaza, who was pants at resisting capture, but anyways...
The problem is, I needed to throw an Ultra Ball, and 27 Great Balls at a level 5 Deoxys on red health!

Now am I just insanely unlucky, or is it just that basic legendary status that makes such Pok?mon a pain in the rear end to capture?

This is a random punt, but I think there's a variable set in the game which determines the difficulty of capturing each individual Pok?mon. If so, obviously, the legendaries' variables will be pretty high.

I got a GBA Action Replay for Christmas, so I decided to use the cheat for Deoxys on my Ruby, capture one level 5 (generic level, lol), and then trade it over to my Sapphire for safety (paranoia from using cheats, *looks around cautiously*).

    It's nifty, ^_^

As far as I can tell, the difficulty of catching any given Pokemon is based on the following factors:
    1. The Pokemon's stats, higher = harder
    2. The Pokemon that you use while attempting to capture, higher stats makes it easier
    3. Afflicting the Pokemon with any ailment (poison, paralysis, freeze) makes it slightly easier to catch
    4. Of course, the Pokeball you use
    5. Obviously, lowering its health

This is all just my conjecture, anyone who disagrees or knows differently can feel free to contradict me. :nervous:

The only external variable that comes into play is a monster's catch rate. >>> In the previous example, Deoxys has a low catch rate, and will therefore be harder to catch than those with a higher catch rate.

All other factors come into play during a battle, and have already been mentioned.

DragonMasterDan: This is the thing you need to do. When catching lower level Pokemon like that, never use a Great Ball or higher. The chance of catching it will be lower. If you use a PokeBall on a very low level Pokemon, the chance of catching it is greater.

Just thought I'd add that incase some people didn't know. :P
