Is there anyway to make a script that sets the levels of a trainer's pokemons?
I would like to make the gym leaders have pokemons at the same level of your highest poke for example. Is the value loaded into some variable or something prior to the battle? If that's so, can I modify that variable before the battle starts with scripts? Or would I have to use ASM?

Unfortunately there are no functions like that in the base Pokemon games (that are regularly hacked here) as far as I know. Thankfully, if you're hacking FireRed, JPAN's Engine does allow you to change the levels of your opponent's Pokemon in relation to your own levels so check it out if you're interested.
