Technically, she was the daughter of his adoptive aunt. She wasn't related to him in blood.

Has something to do with mankind being the last angel and Kaworu feeling some sort of effection towards Shinji. That's about all I could pick up on, it's never directly stated I think.

Meh. Kaworu is now considered as nothing but fanfluff to me now D:

Poe's real mom, adoptive mom, and his cousin died from TB. Basically, all the women he knew XD

Oh...then that just makes that poem all the more screwed up, even though they weren't really family. Not by blood at least.

Angels were driven by the instinctive need to destroy, thanks to the grand plan of creation. They killed because it was programed into them, it was all they knew. But Kaworu on the other hand, he was a different type of angel. He was born on the day of second impact, that that could lead one to believe he's part human in a sense. His name comes from Pseudepigrapha I think, it was written before the old and new testaments. So, his name is Tabris which means "Angel of free will". Put bluntly, he had emotions and a free will to kill or not to kill others.

I think she died, O_O. Didn't he die from being poisoned?
