Master: Origins

thank you all.

Partial set list is announced (51\60). Check it at the top of the thread. 6 trainers were left unrevealed, because I still haven't decided if I'll go with Master type of Pokémon (or how exactly will they work). I have some ideas, but I'm having some trouble with balacing them with the other cards. Shining Pokémon, Box topper and Reward card are chosen, but not 100% sure.

Note that some Pokémon will come out as 2 cards. It's because all Pokémon evolutions come in group of three (basic\stage 1\stage 2 or basic\basic\stage 1). Don't ask why. I don't know either. The problem is what will I do with Pokémons that don't evolve. There is a possibility of special set which will contain that kind of Pokémon.

Expect 3 Kanto starters very soon. The illustrations will be "Sherry Adonai"-like again. 2 of them are done allready. And there will not be any problem with sizing this time.

The set list should be alphabetic and rarity order... check an official american set list for details.

Also, there are several things I would change...

First, Alakazam should be holo. Add more rares and holos. Take out the double basics... Pikachu, Diglett, Vulpix, Voltorb, Poliwag, Seel. Add Pichu and more evolution lines. Take the basics from the uncommons. Add more Pokémon-ex and Pokémon *. tanke the Reward card from thae set... It is a promo...

Overall, you have to fully remake the set list... Think of a plot... Add unused Pokémon like Yanma, Sunkern and stuff... On the plot imaghine places and people for Stadiums and Supporters. I'm not saying the list is bad, I've seen worst...

I hope to see a new list soon... and also new, as cool or cooler cards than those you have shown us.

PS. I saw the previous post clearly after writing this and I say... Don't make the non-evolving Pokeys an issue... and them to the set!! Simple!

alphabetic order is ignored on purpose. it's sorted by the type\rarity
grass\fire\water\electric\fighting\psychic
i find it more appropreate to rank them by type than alphabet.
but, that shouldn't be a problem. it's just numbers.

yup, Alakazam was originally a holo one, but as I was doing 6 set lists in advance, I didn't have any other choice then put Alakazam as rare one in this set. Don't worry if I'll work enough, there will be a holo Alakazam as well.

I can't add Pichu since I'm doing only Kanto region this time. Pichu is in 4th set.
Anyways, this set was carefully planned. It's not just random cards. I did a plan for future sets, so this one had to fit in also.

i didn't want to add more ex's or shinings because I wanted to keep them balanced. I think 3 ex's per 60 cards is good.

so- this is my opinion (and the story):
this set list could look crappy, because there aren't enough cool Pokémon,
but I didn't want to make 1 super-cool set because then after that I wouldn't have enough material to make another sets.
If I wanted to, I could make all ex's and make them excellent and powerfull,
but I wanted to make a set which could be playable in real life.
and that includes a lot of basics which has to be done (although is not as fun as making ex's). I intend to make a lot of cards and then play with them. Not just to look at them and admire.

don't look at this set as one story. I look at it as a first part of a story.
non-evolving Pokés will be made. Just not in this set.

to conclude, I took some freedom in this set (such as alphabetical order or annoying double basics), but playability was my priority,
so I hope you can all find something you like in this set.
and that probably means looking at 10 cool and fun cards and 50 boring ones.

just, when you look at the set list, keep in mind that this is only the beginning. And if this set would have 10 ex's, 5 shinings and all famous Pokémon, then it would be very hard for me to do a second set. It would look crappy comparing to this one.

so, the set list will probably not change,
although I completely agree with you that it's not that good.

3 new cards added: Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle.

...

My fav is Charmander. Did I write that "Starter" body good? If you have any suggestions, say so, please.
The fonts don't look strange any more. I hope so.
And it's not like I have no fresh ideas, so i'm copying the bodies, but I thought it would be cool that all starters have "Starter" body.

I think the pictures are cool, especially Charmander's one!

The body should/could be different for each, like "Water Starter: blah, blah" and stuff. You could keept it for a fast Pokémon like Charmander, a counter Body for Bulbasaur and an atacking Body for Squirtle.

The attack which, overall, are equal for each one of them are not very original in names and effects...

I can't wait to see the Stage 1's.

QFred
I mostly agree with you.
Unfortunately, when I was doing the spoilers, I found myself having troubles with originality when it comes down to basic pokémon. There isn't much room for creativity.

but, I wanted to do similar starters. I really don't know why. I know it doesn't seem original, but I loooove symetry (all starters having the same body, similar attacks etc). Wait to see stage1 starters. Talking about un-originality.:nervous:

But, more originality comes with other cards from this set. If I had to choose most un-original cards from that set, it would be basic and s1 starters (I don't think that ex's are un-original)

so, this cards were more for me to practise faking,
and originality will come with the rest of the set (as new Special Conditions, new type of trainer cards and Master type of Pokémon)

...

And I have 1 very important question that would help me a lot:
does anyone knows in which episode Ivysaur appeared ? (but before Pokémon 2 was released- with Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Totodile)
I've found the episode where Ivysaur was in "Who's that Pokémon" section (episode 96), but he did not appear in the show as well.
if anyone knows in which episode (early episode) can Ivysaur be seen, LMK please.

QFred said:
Ivysaur hasn't appared cause Ash wanted it not to evolve so it could participate in a Bulbasaur contest...

you think that there was never an Ivysaur in Pokémon series?
I hope that isn't true.

his Squirtle also didn't evolve, but we saw Wartortle in episode 108 (Pokémon Water War).
I'm looking for Ivysaur, but it doesn't have to be Ash's.

update:
i've found Ivysaur. that was weeks ago.
my last trouble with acquiring pics is Poliwag\Poliwhirl\Poliwrath evolution.
I just can't find them in first 80 episodes of Pokémon.
any info would be very helpfull.

the set list has changed. (nothing major)
and I'm stuck at doing Wartortle illustration.

I'm now going on my vacation (where I'll hopefully do some of the illus.).
And when I come back, you'll probably have a lot of material to look at.

And- it seems that my prediction about finishing this set by late July \ early August was wrong.
At this time, I would be happy if I'm all done by the end of August.

And here is my latest work:
(notice the different illustration type- this was not made in photoshop. and once again- I do not take the credit for the background since it's not mine)

please, comment this one.
especially the illustration.
and the 2nd attack. (overpowered or not?)
(don't worry about the 1st attack. it goes well with some other card- combo.)

EDIT: and here's 1st pikachu.

here's new type of Trainer card: Prediction

think you know how's your opponent thinking?
do your best and take advantage from it.

only 3 Prediction cards are in Master: Origins. (more to come later on)

and this is how the card works:
you can play 1 Prediction card per turn. (before your attack)
you place it on its own special place (like Stadium which has its own special place)
the card is played face-down.
playing card face-down which is not "Prediction" is forbidden.

the card has: Condition, True and False effect.
If the condition becomes true during your opponent's next turn, then you do what "true" says.
if the condition doesn't become true during your opponent's next turn, then you do what "false" says.
the effect is happening at the end of your opponent's turn. (can't happen in the middle of his\her turn). and after that, the card is discarded.

each player can play his Prediction card, no matter if the opponent plays it also. (it's not like Stadium, which eliminates your opponent's Stadium card if you play it)

That's about it.

NOTE: backgrounds are those Pokémon playing boards (i don't know the real name of that stuff). the energies used in here are from HP set.
