Oh boy, this was a good month.
The Raw Numbers
May total views: 28,424 (April: 5,776, March: 2,702)
May total visitors: 20,676 (April: 3,483, March: 1,671)
May average views/day: 917 (April: 193, March: 87)
Daily High Score: 3,814 (Best ever: 449 views, April: 350)
Lowest Score (for a full day): 318 (April: 82, March: 48)
Number of 100+ days: 31 (April: 27, March: 10)
Image of hits/day:
Let's just appreciate those numbers for a second. April more than doubled March's effort (just). May on the other hand went up by four times than April's views! Visitor numbers are a similar story too.
Of course, the bump is (partly!) thanks to the Sun and Moon news on the 10th, as evident in the image. I am not sure we'll beat 3,800+ views in a day anytime soon, but clearly the followup articles to the initial news was a Good Idea. Mind you, even before that news May was comfortably doing better than April, and this is also the case after the hype finally died down.
So let's see why exactly!
Articles visited since start of month until 1st Jun:
(Note that articles posted in the month have the orange tab to the left.)
Surprise! The top article was not a Sun and Moon article! Huh? Well, people love news on event Pokemon, and they especially liked shiny Xerneas and Yveltal. (They still hope for Zygarde forms as well - third highest article for views and it wasn't even quite released in May). People checked regularly as well because the event distribution changed each week. End result - 8,000+ views on that article. Wish I got that many views for fics I wrote in a month! :V
The runaway popular article on the Sun and Moon side was the analysis of the starter Pokemon. The region analysis article also netted a couple thousand hits. Only then does the homepage register, coming in 5th most viewed.
So what about other articles not concerned with SM or event Pokemon? The interview with VisualJae did pretty well (see below - helped by him linking to the interview on sites). The GSC on eshop video article continues to garner hits, and other video articles (e.g. the evolutionary stones) has hits in the hundreds as well.
The Roserade make-a-mega did well which is a good sign for the series. The news about Pokemon MD on VC thanks to Team Fail's info also had some interest. Only then do you get stuff on say Pokemon Go, then the Luxray make-a-mega and happily for myself the Caring for your Eevee articles (which are comparatively more recent than Roserade's MaM article).
Kirby's interview article hasn't quite kicked off but may need more time. The PCL article kinda fell at a bad time with the SM news. (Any plans on a follow up with that btw?)
Google's versions of the stats ('sessions' = views, seems lower than total stats):
Google agrees with the other image, basically. But a good reason for the number of hits is that a looot of people reached Daily through google...
Referrers (ie what sites people came from to visit the magazine)
...as seen here. A bunch searched on their phones as well.
Meanwhile, Twitter helped a fair bit, as did Tumblr. There's even 100+ from Facebook!
The next couple are sites to do with VisualJae's game. Then there's a thread by Team Fail, a Finnish Pokemon forum that's linked to us before, and a mix of other stuff.
(Neat thing, one of the referrers is from a page of a tumblr of an artist whose webcomic I follow. Small world!)
Search engines terms (what people put in anything but Google to get to the magazine.
I've cut off the single-search terms. There's also near 8,000 unknown search terms to this list...
The funny and weird searches (that got clicks, and including google) include:
Clicks (links clicked in articles)
Look at the top! People are interested in reading more about Litten and Rowlet's basis, but less so about Popplio. Poor thing.
Country breakdown:
US on top. Australia caught up to UK. I removed those with <10 hits.
