    We should have something like that. It would be fun, but I don't know how that member would be selected. I'm thinking by forum-wide election or picked by staff.
     
    From what I understand, the forum had Member of the Month for a long time but it was terrible and just a huge popularity contests and such so it was ended.
     
    Yep, there was.

    And like Toujours said, it was a huge popularity contest. People would get upset that they weren't voted for, and it ended up just not being a fun part of the community anymore.

    As one of the main members who abused this when it was around, I can TESTIFY to the fact that MOTM's are just huge popularity contests, no way reflecting on the actual talent some people may have had who didn't win. As far as I know, if it was o be brought back today, nothing would change. People would still try get their friends to win, get into fights if they/someone else didn't win, or if someone they didn't like did win.
    However, I'm happy for it to be brought back if it were to be recognized as something light-hearted and trivial, nothing more than that. If it were to be closed because members took it too far, I wouldn't see it as a loss to the community.

    We have Member of the Year, so doing this on a monthly basis would seem to take away from that event. Woot another popularity contest lets bring back rep as well xD.
     
    With Member of the Year, we really don't need Member of the Month around anymore. Every month we had roughly the same members being brought up time and time again to which it was a basic popularity contest, repetitive, and it became boring. Member of the Year at least comes once a year and offers the chance for different members to be recognized for different traits, talents, and other categories. We had our first Member of the Year last year which I thought went along pretty well. Hopefully this year we'll have another one, perhaps with a few changes, that will run just as equally well.
