    O_o; Why the heck are they doing this? It seems like it'd be much less hassle to just tell the European Commision to go stuff themselves.

    Really, even though WMP can be pretty much replaced by Winamp or iTunes, it's still pointless to sell the OS without a media player. Apple has iTunes and Quicktime, and most, if not all, Linux distros come with something like XMMS as a media player.

    This is one of those "What were they thinking?" moments, really.

    Um... yeah, what's the point? If you don't want to use Windows Media Player, just assign its file associations to some other program(s) and use that. O_o

    Yeah I am with Ty, when I am not using WMP, I just assign the files to open in Winamp, or whatever other program I am using. European people need to think more. XD

    Microsoft has to do this because they're using their monopoly status to get WMP to be the number one media player which is illegal in Europe and the USA. They also did the same thing with Internet Explorer. Micosoft has been sued over this countless of times.

    Yeah, XP has IE and Explorer as the same thing, pretty much. If you were to remove IE, you pretty much cripple XP. I should know, I tried it once.

    As for the EC, do they really think that they did the right thing by limiting the choices of the actual users? I know several people who use both IE and WMP because they actually LIKE them, just like some people, such as myself, actually LIKE Firefox, and not use it because the rest of the world is starting to use it (yes, there are people who are like that).

    To think, they accused MS of using their "monopoly status" to force WMP down the user's throat, when they did pretty much the same thing by lessening the amount of choices you have for your media player.

    I would like to add one thing. All this with antitrust lawsuits and constantly blaming MS for problems with Windows is pretty much just the world picking on the largest company because they can't stand being in second place, or else they feel Microsoft has gotten too big. The same thing is happening to Google now, with many people going after them, just because they've gotten so big. In all honestly, it's mostly bias against MS and all BS.

    They blame MS for the viruses, but it's the virus writter and sometimes the user that are at fault. These worms should also be blamed on the actual programmer of the worm. They say MS is shoving IE and WMP down everyone's throat, but some people actually like MS products, and the others always have Firefox\Opera and iTunes\Winamp. In the end, it's not all Microsoft's fault. Yeah, some of it can go towards them, but not as much as people go after them for.

    No Windows Media Player? St00pid. >>;

    That's what I always use. [although I think I'm going to use iTunes soon. I have the CD~ Just not the motivation] So, it's good that I don't live in Europe ;)

    Have you ever thought that you don't have to buy it? o_O
    It's cheaper than the "normal" XP and Microsoft already released an additional patch to re-install it on XP-N.
    So you can see it as a way of getting XP cheaper than usual.
