    I remember when I was 5 or 7 years old, and was playing pokemon stadium 2.
    I looked on the rental pokemon list, and just couldn't decide wich ones to choose! then I stumbled upon a pine-cone lokin' pokemon (pineco) and thought it looked awesome, and it knew selfdestruct! (my favourite move! XD) I battled with it a couple of times, and then I thought that it might have an evolution. so I searched the list again, and found a pokemon that looked like it evolved from a pine-cone. Pupitar! XD
    and Pupitar looked even more awesome looking than pineco, so i satarted to use that one instead. It's moves were even cooler then selfdestruct, and it was just unbelieavably cool!
    So then I thought: "I've got to get this pokemon on my gameboy!" And so I captured Pineco. I trained it until the point where it evolved, but then I was shocked and disapointed; It evolved into a big shell with glasses! (Foretress XD)
    I thought it was some sort of mistake; a glitch of some kind (or as we called it back then: the game Clicked. XD).
    I told my friends about It, but they couldn't understand it either!

    today I know better (maybe a bit too much! XD), but back then, pokemon was a mystery that every kid my age tried to solve. (ah, good times! 8) .)

    So I made this thread so that you; the People, can tell the world of your pokemon-related misunderstandings, no matter how sad/funny (preferably funny XD) they may be!

    i thought it helped you get to areas that wer blocked by a wall or some trees in pokemon silver! XD
     
    i really thought we could go to the moon to catch jirachi in emerald....
    i realised we couldnt so i made a hack were u could!!
     
    I never completed my Yellow, since I didnt know how to move that old man lying down blocking my way. x3
     
    ^He might be my favorite Pokemon NPC of all time.

    But yeah, I got caught on the Jirachi thing too, as well as believing that Deoxys was actually a virus, as in something hacked it's way into my Sapphire game, and ended up looking like that. I also leveled-up a Clamperl to 75 beating the Elite Four over and over, wondering why it wouldn't evolve. XDD
     
    in pokemon leaf green i didn't know how to get the HM surf. all of my pokemons were lvl 50+ and i was searching the whole map. and then some day i was catching pokemons in safari zone and what did i get?? HM surf :)))
     
    When I was a kid, there were two points in Red/Blue that totally had me stumped for at least two weeks. XD

    - getting past the giant fish in Viridian city: Well, he was a grumpy old man whose sprite was on its side, making him look like a fish from my 11-year-old point of view. XD I had no idea what I was supposed to do to get past him. I even received Oaks Parcel from the Pokemart only to ignore that sidequest because I thought that it was less important than getting past Viridian city. XD

    - Finding a way into Saffron City: I had absolutely no idea what I was supposed to d oto get past those guards...I ultimately assumed that it was a lame plot device to keep us out of the city until later in the game. I continued on with the game, until after I beat Blaine in Cinabar Gym only to find that I was missing two badges. I assumed that they were both in this mystery city, which I found out was STILL blocked off. I ultimately had to figure out from the internets that I was supposed to give the guard a beverage from the vending machines atop the department store. XD
     
    I thought Rhydon and Kangaskhan were (split, in the case of Rhydon) parents to Missingno.
     
    Wow, the good ol' days. I remember trying to find Togepi in my Yellow version. And after I saw the first movie, I spent countless hours looking for Pikablu, Snubbull, and Donphan. I even believed I did one time. 'Wild Pikablu appeared'. My heart started racing...I got so excited only to find myself on the floor next to my bed with no Gameboy in sight...you figure out what happened...
     
    I thought that is R/S you had to talk to the guys in the space institue on Mossdeep until they said they'd had 100 successful space launches, and then you got invited to go on the next flight, where you went and caught Deoxys in space.

    In Fire Red I kept buying Fresh Water and the guard wouldn't let me into Saffron City and I thought it was a glitch until I found out about the Tea.
     
    I thought that the only way to get lugia in Silver was to trade it from a guy in pewter city. XD (rumours at school. don't ask. XD)

    I changed the script a bit so that the lady standing by says 'Get up, you senile old man!'.

    I always thought that Pachurisu had an evolution. x3
     
    I thought Arbok evolved into Seviper. Lolz, 4Kids, lolz.

    I remember when I thought Remoraid evolved into Mantine because one was always stuck to Mantine's fin. How surprised I was when I tried to get a Mantine and my Remoraid evolved into an Octillery. . D= I hated Octillery ever since.​
     
    When I was a little kid, I didn't realize
    that there were these little things called
    Stats. Such as Attack, Defence, SP. ATK,
    SP. DEF, Speed, etc. so I thought moves
    like Harden were merely there as fillers and
    were practically worthless... little did I know.

    Also, earlier than that, I would play
    Pokémon Yellow Version and just by
    chance HAPPEN to beat Brock. Everytime
    I'd play I'd become so upset because I'd
    have to beat Brock again... because I
    didn't know you had to manually save
    the game. Oops.
     
    When I was a kid, my brother's friend convinced me to trade him my level 50 something vileplume, he traded me back a level 30 something bellosom and convinced me that it had lowered in levels while he was evolving it.
     
    To add on, I heard these rumors. Some were common and familiar.

    Such as... Getting Deoxys / Jirachi in space if you get 100 rocket launches exactly in Mossdeep. I kept trying and waiting.

    And I heard a rumor that Charizard evolves into Charmillionaire at Level 255 and I BELIEVED IT OMG. ;o;

    I also thought Pokemon were real and I would talk to the little furret in my tree. :(
