Hey guys, I'm just wondering if anyone would want an "Old School" Pokémon MMORPG. Because sometimes I find myself not liking the new graphics and wanting to play the games with the old ones. Anybody feel the same way?

Storyline Idea : An Idea I've Had For Some Time....

    Background
10 years after Generation 2 of the Pokemon Games, the Pokemon World was at peace. This peace was kept by the world organization called the "United Pokemon Nations." Of course, so much power and influence comes with great responsibilities. Responsibilities so great, in fact, that if they fell, they could change the Pokemon World...forever.

Eventually, another organization, who called themselves "Cotema Terk," wanted what the UPN had: Power. So they sabotaged the UPN, and waged war on them. The greedy UPN instantly fell to their knees as a bag of gold in was tossed in their direction. The world was left alone; each country to fend for itself. Who would stand up against the evil tyranic force, and unite the countries as one? Who would stay strong, willing to fight for freedom and to renew justice in the world? (Batman!!! Hehe...lol)

    Main Storyline
The main character (You) lives in the city of Celadon. After your father stands up to the corrupt UPN, and disappears, you decide to leave your home to find your father (You are 17-18 years old). On your journey, you fight the evil organization and gather a following of people. As you delve deeper into the twisted sinister plot, you find clues as to your father's whereabouts. Is he alive...or dead?

    Side Quests
Cleansing the Darkness - This goes along with the main quest; you have to fix a problem in each country that may or may not have been caused by the evil organization (a black plague, a civil war, a rebellion, a drought, etc.).
Masters of the Past - Meet Ash and his Pikachu, Professor Oak, and other famous people of the past!
The Start of a Legend - Help train Ash's kid, and help him get ready for the Pokemon League.
Rise of William - An evil guy (around your age) takes his band of men and destroys towns. You have to stop him.
Past Events Mean Future Destruction - Discover why William is so evil and help him reveal his past.
Mewtown Obsession - Can you catch Mew? A quest regarding Holon and their Mew obsession.
Note: These are only a taste of the side quests to come!

Its an intresting idea, but it depends on what exactly, story wise and crud, u have in mind. graphics are nice but its the story that catches the player. but yea i wouldnt mind seeing an old school graphic like in blue/red/yellow stuff in a game, all the others are using new graphics so its different

My first ever pokemon game was Pokemon Yellow. I loved how your starter follows you around and all that. The Graphics weren't that bad when you think about it,but when you compare it to heart gold and soul silver it may look bad. I dont really like the DS pokemon games graphic with everything 3D and enchance coloring. I just like it simple and not to much overdoing it.

Go 8bit and have only like 3 colors per sprite...

Yeah good point. I was thinking about having a very deep storyline since I wouldn't have to focus so much on the graphics.

I agree. The graphics in the DS game are a little weird for my eyes, and the advanced ones are a little too generic. So that's why I was thinking about going to the original. Plus, no one's done that yet; I don't think.

Go 8bit and have only like 3 colors per sprite...
Good idea, man. That would alos give me the option of making my own sprites. Instead of the original ones.

I have a question for you guys. Should it be color or black and white? Or mixed (kinda like Yellow)?

Cotema Terk = Team Rocket? The anagram's pretty obvious :P

Also, why a MMORPG? Wouldn't it be easier to make it a standard Pokémon game? You're not gaining anything from going online...

Yea if you go 8bit, the quality of the sprites are lower so you can increase the quantity

Nice find, Wichu! I'll have to change that to something more....sneaky.... If you have any suggestions then please pm me! ;) It's not really that big of a "spoiler" but I assure you the quests in it will be beastly! Hopefully....:paranoid:

Also, I hope for it to eventually be a MMORPG. At first I'll probably just release it as a solo game. Then, if it has a good reception, then release it as an online game.

This sounds very similar to what I'm working on. I'm doing an engine from scratch in Multimedia Fusion 2 using graphics in greyscale from Red/Blue.

I definetely think it's a cool idea. It lets you (and me) let creativity flow with just black, white, two greyscales and a 16x16 area to stop us! You're welcome to try my engine, the link is in my sig. I don't know if you're using RPG maker or whatever.

Yeah I plan on making my engine from scratch, too. I am not using RPG Maker because I don't want to buy it, and I feel that the game wouldn't be as good. I also plan on making my own sprites, or just upgraded ones from the original. The engine will have some color, the color will be sorta like the 2nd Generation.

I downloaded Red Sand and I liked it! If you need someone to be beta tester, then I would be willing to help. Oh and I liked it how you make it so you could walk behind the building 100% of the way. It always bugged me how you could only walk a step behind it.

Thanks for playing Red Sand! :D You're the first outside of my brother and my girlfriend to try it. And they did not really, you know, understand how much work is behind it since it's so similar to the original.

What kind of software are you planning to use for your game? Because coding that battle system from scratch is going to be a *****, whatever way you decide to do it. I'm conteplating making Red Sand an adventure game set in a pokemon world where you progress through puzzles and there are no pokemon battles, but part of me really wants it to be a full fledged pokemon game. If you press N in the game as it is now, you can see about how far I've come, haha. Not very far. But really, what I want to concentrate on is the story and making a battle system would take me weeks at least.

Oh, and yeah, I tried to include stuff like walking behind buildings, door animation, etc that arent in the original game but that are subtle enough that I can put them in without it changing too much.

But yeah, your ideas are really good, and if you ever want to use Multimedia Fusion (which is also expensive, dev version which i use is 299 dollars, but needless to say, there are ways around that), you can have what I've done so far if you could ever understand my mess of a code. It would be easy to change screen size to advance, and/or the colors and graphics.

Thanks for the offer, man. But I think I will build the game from scratch. It would feel a lot more satisfying that way :). And yeah I definitely want to make the battle system, no matter how long it takes.
