I was wondering if there are any successful competative players who use mono teams if there are I was thinking of using Dark, or
    Ice, or fighting.

I want to know why I should or shouldnot do this thank you for your comments.

Mono teams are fun, but don't expect to get far with them every time. I tried using a fire mono, and I lost nearly every time. I suggest using a strong type mono, like Steel or Psychic. Steel was one of my more successful mono teams.

Mono teams are horrible. They almost never work due to horrible type coverage...

The only possible way a mono-team could suceed is if it exploits a weakness in a team it really should have been ready for. Such as an all Steel team. If the opponent can't handle the defences of steel types. Or if they have a weakness to steel (ice, rock). More than likely though, if your Mono-team suceeds, it's because your opponent truely sucks and doesn't need to be battling.

It depends on what type you use, but mostly, yeah, they're horrible. I just use good types now, like steel.

Flying, Grass, Normal, and Rock are pretty good mono-teams.

Electric, Fire, and Ice are the sucky ones.

NO THEY ARE NOT. Even my favorite grass is bad. They all have VERY common and easily exploitable weaknesses, especially Rock.

Your only close when you said Normal, but Mono teams are just for novelty, not serious battling.

EDIT: I take that back, I just remembered that Normal is weak to fighting. No sucessful competitor uses mono-teams.

I find it a bit strange no one has mentioned poison since they have a huge abundance of pokemon and you can find ways to protect there weaknesses like with say a dark/poison type or a
poison type with levitate to try and kill those pesky ground and psychic types.
and not to mention the ghost/poison like gastly-gengar wich protects against psychic and ground gastly-gengar has levitate right?

When I read this, I had to get off my Wii and type this by computer. Poison makes awful mono teams. Two VERY common weaknesseses, (excuse my spelling), and somewhat lousy attack type (save for a few powerful moves).

But you say we can remedy that? Well how many Dark/Poison types are there, honestly, like, three? More like two, if you don't take into account Stunky, an unevoled form. Not much teams has an unevoled form.

Then there's levitate. The poison types who can use that are all weak against Psychic, along with having bad defence. And there are few ones worth using, Gengar being one of them.

Don't forget that they run into Steel types, which shuts them down completly.

Their abilities makes them worth having on a regular team, but are nowhere near suited for a Mono-team.

As Nightofshadow stated, Mono teams are horrible.

EDIT: Did you mean Ground and Psychic, 'cause you got Ground and Poison. Doesn't make much sense.

    Ah I forgot about steel types also and I guess all of you are right mono teams do suck and it would be pretty boring to just raise poison types oh and yes I did mean ground and psychic just a typo ^_^;

I use mono teams a lot on netbattle. Ones that have the most success are Psychic and water. I'd say on netbattle, probably water is the best, not too sure about diamond/pearl generation though.

water is a good mono, you can use gyrados for water/flying, quagsire for water/ground, lantern for water/electric

Wow. I just learned what netbattle means, so excuse me. But on Diamond/Pearl, it will most definetly fail. You are now playing more people around the world, and they know what they are doing. If you are like me, then you will mostly be playing people on this forum, and (most of us) knows what we are doing.

Ahem... WATER!!! easy. I have a water mono team and have given many people a nasty surprise. The first thing you do NOT want to do, however is use something like a Gyarados! People WILL bring electric moves against you. Only acceptable 4x weaknesses should be Water/Ground types like Swampert, for example, as they nullify Water's only other weakness which people will undoubtedly try to use. And I'd be willing to bet that if someone's rockin' an electric move, they are not rockin' a grass move on the same poke. Water types offer virtually every kind of Dual type you could need.

I shut down plenty of water mono teams with Raichu alone (Grass Knot+Nasty Plot+Thunderbolt=Fireworks).

As I said, there are no such thing as a truly sucessful mono team. They may work in a few, battles, but I damn sure won't be using 'em in a tournament.

Kingdra, Tentacruel and Ludicolo > Raichu... all of which were on my team.

Tentacruel is weak against Electric. Ludicolo falls to bug, a common Heracross, and a Nasty Plotted Raichu could do serious ham to Ludicolo with Grass Knot AND Thunderbolt. I'll admit, Kingdra is nice, but you can't rely on just him to win a battle.

I'm tired of arguing... A plain water team might be good now & then, but overall, they won't suceed to much in the Wi-fi game. Especially on this forum. We know what we are doing (most of us, at least).

Agreed, and no reason to get in a one-uping match over anything, but I really think Tentacruel would beat anything that tried to bolt him. 120 base Sp. Def + Mirror Coat. Anyways, this has gone on long enough. And yeah, a mono team should NEVER be your main team as sims says.

Never as a main team, but gimmick teams are good and fun. I have often had success with mono water and grass against good battlers.

Gyarados/Lanturn/Ludicolo/Starmie/Suicune/Swampert: Tell me how that team fails miserably. Give me one good reason, at least in ADV, on why I should never use that team again because it sucks so horribly. In fact, I usually use Qwilfish and Whiscash and still win a lot.

Who do you battle to win alot? Its not completley terrible, and I do hope this is the last time I have to post here, but you're whole team could get hit by Electric. Maybe not super-effective, like most, but they will be hurt. And Swampert WILL fall to one Leaf Storm. Lanturn, Ludicolo, and Swampert will fall from a Leaf Storm, and the rest, a plotted up Thunderbolt.

As you said, never as a main team, but as a gimmicky or fun team.

I'm sick of typing. Why is everybody defending mono-teams anyway? I don't get it. Please, Samson, Nutrisweet, anybody, explain why mono teams aren't meant for serious, (maybe hardcore, that's the word) battling.

As Ethereal said, this has gone on long enough. Mono teams are't good for compettitive battling. Good for fun, but not for any tournaments.
