Morally wrong or perfectly fine?

To me as a person, I think that is the worst most painful thing I have ever seen. I can't believe that the officer did that.

Actually getting tasered isn't that bad. I think it's more the psychological aspect of that fact, 'holy **** he/she actually tased me!' and thinking that the voltage in a little machine is going to kill you. Granted, the elderly have the extra added problem of a scare could potentially give them a heart attack, but the voltage in a taser carried by police officers is hardly enough to kill you. It's just a quick shock designed to incapcitate you long enough for them to get you under control. Same goes for pepper spray.

This is 100% correct. Tasering is not painful, though it is quite... erm... shocking.

Also, I'm kind of sick of the public's do-no-good attitude toward police forces. They're here to help us. Besides, this officer did the right thing in the situation; the subject was uncooperative and resisting arrest, and tasering was the best way to subdue the subject (it appears that she wouldn't allow the officer to frisk her, so he had no idea if she was armed or not). Additionally, she was given ample warning that if she continued resisting arrest, she would be tasered. Disobeying a reasonable request by an officer is stupid; if this was a 20 year old, it wouldn't have even made news. Why should the elderly expect special treatment from law enforcement?

That's just horrible! She is weak and old. On top of that, she wasn't attacking the officer. Just stand in her way..

Also, do not assume everyone feels like you. Some people might think being tasered is exteremly painful. Some people think getting a shot is painful. Some don't. Some people actually think getting a tattoo is soothing, obviously some don't. A bee sting hurts some people but not others. Not everyone feels pain to the same degree as you.

It's not subjective. The electricity disables the pain receptors; it is, quite simply, not painful. Unless it's a drive-stun taser, which is a different story.

Now thats why cops should go to hell! that was someones grandma and mother!!! and that could have killed her, and NO it was not necessary! he could have done something less intense. and he nearly killed her cuz she refused to sign a speeding ticket and said a few harsh words. who the hell cares! maybe he should give everyone else in the world a taze! and good lord, does anyone have any respect for old people?!

So if you lie, you will get tasered. New law on me.

Fair enough, but seriously, what could the woman really have done to him?
Unless she had a weapon, she really wasn't a threat.

I have to completley agree with Tribulations. Yes, lying is very much against the law. And of course, Tribs meant that she could have been lying about what happend in the video. What would you rather the cop done? Pin her down?

She isn't senile, she's driving. She ain't powerless, she's arguing. He has done the right thing, but I can't help but feel for the woman, morally.

However, electricity is funny, so that evens me out.

Yeah, I mean, he could have hit her or shot her. But tasering the woman, too far.

Uhh...you're kidding, right? I'm pretty sure being shot or beaten is worse than being tasered. But, that's just me.

Then the police must use drive-stun tasers, right? A police officer taser that doesn't hurt even slightly seems pretty useless for that department.

Causing pain is not the primary job of a police officer. If it can painlessly disable, so be it.

If you watch the video, you can clearly here her say "Don't taze me, bro!". Clear invitation.

Wow. I'm torn here. I just... wow... holy... Wow. I watched that and it simply sickened me when she was on the ground, and screaming. Alright, she was asking for it, I'll give her that. But she's an old woman! Come on! Aren't cops supposed to be trained to know how to deal with certain situations? It's not like she was gonna whip out a knife and stab the guy. And when she was on the ground, he threatened to tase her... again? I mean, come on! Like I said, she was really asking for it for not co-operating... but still, tasing is a no-no, especially to somebody of her age. I'm surprised she's O.K.

I've noticed a lot of stories about "bad cops" lately... what's with that? It's very dissapointing. Aren't cops supposed to be the figures who defend your neighborhood that you look up to? Not crazy guys who gang up on and beat up teenagers, and tase old women... It's really dissapointing & sad.

Wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a gosh darn minute.

What the hell was he supposed to do? Grab her arm? But wait, her peanut brittle arms might break! Stand in her way? Bah, she's pushing him out of her way, and if he stands there, he might hurt her poor old wrinkly hands.

She's reaching in her purse! Oh, it can't possibly be a weapon. She's a sweet old agressive lady. She's porbably reaching to give him some hard candy :/.

Come on, now. Just because she is old, does NOT mean she is UNABLE to be a threat. If you dont comply with the police, and you will decide to get agressive, prepare for the consiquences. Who says she isn't gonna whip out a knife & stab a guy? Why? Is she unable too? Is there a limit on how old you can be before you can whip out a knife?

I mean, personally, electricity is always the best solution, but that's another story. My late grandma is pretty aggressive, and freakishly strong. However, she would never do anything to deserve a tasing. Not like it matters. She's a ground type, and therefor unaffected by electric type attacks.
