5th Gen More simple Pokémon = better?

Why isn't it? Smilodon's and Lion's are in the feline family. Just like Orca's are in the Dolphin family so yes it is.

yes exactly just cos orcas and dolphins are in the same family does not mean kyogre is a dolphin it look nothing like a dolphin and as someone said it is also based on the legendary leviathan so if you can say kyogres a dolphin you can say the legendary beats are household cats/dogs

^ Wrong thread.

We have way too many cat pokemon. We always get a 2 stage cat line.

wailord = a whale
i cant see how it doesnt look like a whale O.o"

plus Hoenn was great,alot of people just piss&moan cuz the pokemon dont need to evolve to be strong& most pokemon trainers think "evolution is strength"

and sinnoh the region was great,but most of the evolutions of gen1 pokemon sucked, but gen2 evolutions was fontastic! (i want a dunsparce evolution)

most of the pokemon so far have been alot more simpler than gen4, and i have to admit they are beginnin to grow on me

and after wargle (its a bloody eagle/american flag) confirming its in the USA, im lookin forward to seein how good, or bad they make the usa look ^_^

the new dragon-type: Kibago is like larvitar simplistic, yet cute.
Rankurusu, at first i hated the blob, but now its gonna be my resident psychic type for Isshu
Tsutarja might just replace Treecko as my fav grass beginner
Wargle i think itll be the first normal/flying i keep longer than 4gyms
Koromori is kinda weird,but its another bat,and its psychic/flying so it mgiht be cool
Chiramii is a new age sentret,except it looks more usable
Meguruko is a desert version of feraligatr :P

so from what ive seen, the first stage pokemon are VERY simple
now those stage1-2 pokemon we see in the video are lil complicated, and you cant make a sarcophagus "simple" so i tihnk theyve done a good job so far.

Pikachu clearly looks like a mouse. It's colour and traits are not what I mean.

I'm going to have to disagree. When I played pokemon/watched the anime as a kid, I never knew pikachu was a mouse. I've been playing since I was four or five, and I didn't notice he was a mouse until after I was ten and really started reading pokedex entries. Mostly because of his ears, which are pointy and tall as opposed to a mouse's wide, round ears. I believe Pikachu more resembles the real-life animal Pika, (Pie-kuh) which resides in mountainous areas. I'm not sure but I think the Pika is exclusive to the Rocky Mountain Range in the western United States, which is why not a lot of people know about it. While the pika still has stout ears, it sometimes stands on two feet.

Below is a comparison between Pikachu, a mouse and a Pika.
Spoiler:

Pikachu's ears, cheeks, and tail are all obscure features spawned by an artist's imagination, and I find that more complex than another example you made, Torchic, who is really just a chick with a feather boa and a cowlick.
However, I find it unfair to compare first-stage pokemon because they almost are always very simple. If you compare Blaziken to Charizard, then yes, Blaziken is much more complex. I don't see this as a good or bad change though, just a change. It's the way pokemon has been going, the way they will continue going, and I really don't see that changing anytime soon.

-sigh-.

I prefer the new generation that we have compared to the old ones. That's all I'll say on this part, seeing I know I've answered this a lot in the past. I like the originality, the style, the design, everything.

I have nothing against the old generations. I just...because of the new gen's designs, I just prefer them more, I suppose.
Same here, I like the style of the 3rd and 4th generation a lot, like Dialga beats Mewtwo in design :)

They actually made an angry mouse. They called it the watchmouse or something, but everyone knows it's just a mouse that didn't get enough sleep and has anger problems.

You're thinking of Minesuki, the Lookout pokemon. I don't think he's even a mouse, I think he may be a meercat.

Simple Pokemon are popular since they bring nostalgia to the teenagers who played Red/Blue as a kid. Some of them appriciate the complex designs to the Pokemon, while some hate the complex Pokemon either for having too many details in the wrong places or it's basically ruining their childhood.

Although I'd like to see a dolphin Pokemon (not counting Kyogre, that was an orca!) sometime :D

i had to facepalm so hard.

Realy, why is there a full 2 pages arguing wether Kyogre is a dolphin or an orca?
Its clearly neither, otherwise it'd look like a dolphin OR an orca :/

The does need to be a dolphin pokemon, End Of. Period.

It depends on what you like. Sometimes, simple Pokemon are better because they're cute or fun to be with, but some complex Pokemon make you look more powerful. Take a look at this;

What do you think Manaphy is? A bubble? A blue blob? No. It's a slug. You see, the Japanese have a slug on their coast, which is blue and clear looking, with a glowing organ on the inside of it. It's beautiful really, and Manaphy is based off of this slug because the Japanese find it amazing and pretty. They don't care that it's a slug, it's beautiful and fascinating.

So although Manaphy, and any other Pokemon for instance, may look simple, their background is huge. No Pokemon is simple, they all derived from somewhere, which is what makes them unique.

What Manaphy is based off of; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_angel

Realy, why is there a full 2 pages arguing wether Kyogre is a dolphin or an orca?

Kyogre is based off of a type of Dolphin the size of a whale. I forget what it's called, but that is it's origin.
Also, it doesn't matter if it doesn't look like it, theres so many Pokemon that don't look like what they're based off. Look above this quote about Manaphy for an example.

For me, it's not the design that's the problem, it's the style. And it's not 'I hate the style' either, it's just I'm not used to the style, I didn't grow up with the style, I prefer the style I know. I like the newer pokémon, just not as much as the older pokémon. And it's also true that there are newer pokémon that I don't like in the least.

I think the pokémon have become much more individualized. Such as, when you look at a pokémon, you have to think about what it was actually based on for a moment or two before getting it.

Though I do think the idea of your designs sound cool, I think it's not really the simplicity that's the key. More along the lines of sticking to animals bases, perhaps, or animalistic ideas. I guess I don't really like the random protuberances on the pokémon now. D;

I think it's coll when an IDEA of an animal mixes with the imagination. ^^

Also going to have to agree with SooperTrooper

I'd encourage everyone to google "bulbapedia on the origin of species", or something to that effect. excellent articles. Read them. Appreciate Pokemon.

I would like to have a tapir pokémon, with just some simple flower patterns on its body, something simple.. oh wait!

Well.. an awesome eagle pokémon! Oh wait again.. this is becoming dificult..

A kiwi pokémon, even it's not a common animal!
I don't mind Drowzee being the only tapir for now ... a leopard gecko (not a forest-dweller like Treecko) would be fun though. :P
