PREPARE FOR BIAS AND SLANDER AND ALL THINGS GREED.

So I love Scars of Mirrodin, I don't know if you all know this yet. I figured I'd post a draft pick discussion here. I used a simulated draft program to draft it (I don't think I'm allowed to post the link to it here :#).

    Enjoy!

    Pack 1 Pick 1:

    True Conviction
    Painsmith -
    Twisted Image
    Bloodshot Trainee
    Steady Progress
    Golden Urn
    Strider Harness
    Vault Skyward
    Scrapdiver Serpent
    Gold Myr
    Salvage Scout
    Silver Myr
    Tumble Magnet
    Mountain
    FOIL Alpha Tyrannax

True Conviction is one of those cards that's a bit better than it probably looks, but I hate white, honestly. I can pick up all the Revokes in the world and it won't make a lick of difference. I'm attuned to the B/R Furnace Celebration deck, and I thoroughly enjoy drafting it. Painsmith fits very comfortably in that. Tumble Magnet and Bloodshot Trainee are the only other noteworthy cards in the pack, neither of which will make their way back to me.

    Pack 1 Pick 2:

    Genesis Wave
    Palladium Myr
    Trinket Mage
    Plague Stinger
    Turn Aside
    Origin Spellbomb
    Perilous Myr -
    Vulshok Heartstoker
    Screeching Silclaw
    Plated Seastrider
    Stoic Rebuttal
    Alpha Tyrannax
    Tel-Jilad Defiance
    Mountain

Genesis Wave is a fine card in a color I hate playing in Limited period. (Unless I first-pick Ezuri's Brigade. Then we're in business.) Most of these cards are very nice, but looking at what I want to do, Perilous Myr is an all-star. It does so much that this deck wants to do. It's an aggressive, annoying little threat that you don't want to kill, and this deck has a multitude of ways to abuse it both being an artifact (Kuldotha Rebirth, Oxidda Daredevil) and a creature (Dross Hopper, possibly Corrupted Harvester). It gets just silly with Barrage Ogre and Furnace Celebration on board. I pay two mana and sacrifice it and kill three of your dudes (or trade it for Wurmcoil Engine)? Sounds like a deal to me! =D

Not much I want out of this pack to come back. I expect a lot of blue on the wheel, since nobody plays blue (rightfully so). Palladium Myr is decent in this deck as a "T: Trigger target Furnace Celebration", and Origin Spellbomb is honestly fine on its own off-color as two triggers to Furnace Celebration, but I expect neither to wheel.

    Pack 1 Pick 3:

    Twisted Image
    Slice in Twain
    Bonds of Quicksliver
    Blight Mamba
    Oxidda Daredevil
    Ferrovore -
    Ghalma's Warden
    Goblin Gavaleer
    Plated Seastrider
    Neurok Invisimancer
    Wall of Tanglecord
    Silver Myr
    Mountain

Seeing Slice in Twain irks me, since I hate enchantment removal screwing up my plans. I take Ferrovore, a criminally underrated card who just wrecks face in this deck. Unblocked, it's almost impossible not to kill an opponent outright in this style of deck. Hoping the Daredevil wheels; a 0-mana sacrifice engine is pretty awesome in this deck.

    Pack 1 Pick 4:

    Darkslick Shores
    Bellowing Tanglewurm
    Snapsail Glider
    Withstand Death
    Nihil Spellbomb
    Revoke Existence
    Screeching Silclaw
    Assault Strobe
    Neurok Invisimancer
    Kuldotha Rebirth -
    Sunspear Shikari
    Forest

Revoke 4th worries me; White's the second-best color in this format to red and this is possibly its premier removal spell (Arrest being the only real competition). The pick is between Nihil Spellbomb and Kuldotha Rebirth. Realistically, I can get both, but for some reason, I picked the Rebirth. Only this deck really plays it (and even then, not very often), and every deck would want the Spellbombs of their colors just for cycling purposes. I'll probably wheel more crappy blue cards :P

    Pack 1 Pick 5:

    Viridian Revel
    Chrome Steed
    Molder Beast
    Sky-Eel School
    Golden Urn
    Revoke Existence
    Silver Myr
    Shatter -
    Sunspear Shikari
    Razorfield Thresher
    Island

I look at Viridian Revel as a pretty decent card advantage engine for the G/(W/R)/(r/w) player that wants to draft all the Shatter effects in the format. I don't know, maybe I'd try it one day. But back to my draft; Chrome Steed is severely tempting, and another Revoke is just silly. However, this deck needs noncreature removal, so Shatter it is. I'll probably wheel any combination of Viridian Revel, Golden Urn, Sunspear Shikari or Razorfield Thresher.

    Pack 1 Pick 6:

    Copperline Gorge
    Golem's Heart
    Furnace Celebration -
    Panic Spellbomb
    Turn Aside
    Origin Spellbomb
    Vulshok Heartstoker
    Flight Spellbomb
    Glimmerpost
    Plains

And I pick up one of the crucial cards for this deck; the namesake of the archetype, Furnace Celebration. Sadly...this pack taunts me, 6th pick with three Spellbombs. SAD FACE. If I had been 2-4 seats over (despite this being a virtual draft)...I'd have been in a bit of a better position. Regardless, Furnace Celebration is the glue that holds this deck together, even though it needs it some Spellbombs...sigh.

    Pack 1 Pick 7:

    Acid Web Spider
    Dross Hopper -
    Blight Mamba
    Saberclaw Golem
    Goblin Gaveleer
    Vulshok Heartstoker
    Wall of Tanglecord
    Whitesun's Passage
    Swamp

Dross Hopper is extremely solid in this deck with Blistergrub and Perilous Myr, and if nothing else, a 2/1 for 2. Saberclaw Golem's a bit too costly for this deck, and Vulshok Heartstoker...doesn't do all that much in a deck lacking evasive creatures. Gaveleer is a card I had high hopes for, but has dropped right off my radar due to the fact that you have to invest too much into it to make it good.

    Pack 1 Pick 8:

    Steady Progress
    Bladed Pinions
    Ghalma's Warden
    Golem Foundry
    Tainted Strike
    Cystbearer -
    Tel-Jilad Defiance
    Mountain

Nothing in this pack for me, really, so I hate on Infect by grabbing its (arguably) most solid common creature.

    Pack 1 Pick 9:

    Twisted Image
    Steady Progress
    Vault Skyward
    Scrapdiver Serpent -
    Salvage Scout
    Mountain
    FOIL Alpha Tryannax

I don't like the thought of having to cack all my artifacts to block this thing, so I hate on it instead.

    Pack 1 Pick 10:

    Turn Aside
    Screeching Silclaw
    Plated Seastrider
    Alpha Tyrannax
    Tel-Jilad Defiance -
    Mountain

I'm a bit concerned at the lack of playable picks at this point, but there is a lot of blue and green, the least favorable colors to be in in this format, so it's understandable, I suppose. I take the most powerful card in the pack (IMO); it's severely underrated. It's certainly better than Withstand Death. Try it, you'll believe me.

    Pack 1 Pick 11:

    Twisted Image
    Blight Mamba
    Oxidda Daredevil -
    Plated Seastrider
    Mountain

I wheeled the Daredevil, as I'd hoped. Blight Mamba wheeling worries me; that guy is solid.

    Pack 1 Pick 12:

    Darkslick Shores -
    Withstand Death
    Sunspear Shikari
    Forest

I'm not playing a terrible protection spell or a card which requires a rather steep investment to make good; so I'll play a card that allows me to splash something like Neurok Replica if I feel like it.

    Pack 1 Pick 13:

    Viridian Revel
    Molder Beast -
    Island

    Pack 1 Pick 14:

    Glimmerpost -
    Plains

    Pack 1 Pick 15:

    Swamp -

Pack 1 was very decent. I got the Furnace Celebration, and the holy trinity that makes this deck work; Ferrovore, Dross Hopper and Oxidda Daredevil. The lack of Fume Spitters makes me sad; that card is absolutely a blast in this deck, and is such a solid 1-drop.

    Pack 2 Pick 1:

    Hand of the Praetors
    Oxidda Scrapmelter -
    Trinket Mage
    Trigon of Thought
    Blackcleave Goblin
    Copperhorn Scout
    Saberclaw Golem
    Blade-Tribe Berserkers
    Vulshok Replica
    Melt Terrain
    Grasp of Darkness
    Ferrovore
    Carapace Forger
    Lumengrid Drake
    Island

Opening Hand makes me frown hardcore. I hate having to pass it, and I refuse to move into an overdrafted, underwhelming draft strategy. Looking at my other options, Scrapmelter is the most attractive, being removal that isn't even a straight 1-for-1. Blade-Tribe Berserkers is a great added punch when you've got a bunch of Spellbombs on board, Vulshok Replica is just amazing in the deck, Grasp of Darkness is just solid removal, and a second Ferrovore couldn't hurt. However, I take the most solid card overall.

    Pack 2 Pick 2:

    Tunnel Ignus
    Grafted Exoskeleton
    Lifesmith
    Goblin Gaveleer
    Cystbearer
    Ezuri's Archers
    Leaden Myr -
    Vault Skyward
    Gold Myr
    Snapsail Glider
    Corpse Cur
    Vulshok Replica
    Vector Asp
    Mountain

Tunnel Ignus is actually not the worst card in the world in this deck just for being a cheap, aggressive creature. It's also HILARIOUS against Genesis Wave, which I saw in pack 1. Passing Exoskeleton after passing Hand is rather worrysome, but I need me some Myr. Those Furnace Celebration triggers aren't going to pay for themselves. Seeing another Vulshok Replica is rather unfortunate, but I may wheel it; the pack is rather deep in playables IMO; Archers might go to the player who believes it's playable (Psst: it isn't), and Vault Skyward and Vector Asp will more than likely wheel. The Replica is underrated, IMO, so it could just wheel.

    Pack 2 Pick 3:

    Trinket Mage
    Embersmith -
    Silver Myr
    Sylvok Replica
    Bladed Pinions
    Turn To Slag
    Melt Terrain
    Razorfield Thresher
    Corpse Cur
    Vulshok Replica
    Sunspear Shikari
    Swamp
    FOIL Infiltration Lens

Embersmith is more attractive than my third shot at a Vulshok Replica. That card is insane. This being the third time I've seen the Replica, one is more than likely going to wheel through the three picks I've had thus far. Passing Turn to Slag isn't a big deal since my opponent will hardly ever get a 2-for-1 for it. (Often times, it will just end up countered due to there being no legal target when it resolves.) Infiltration Lens is pretty mean on a Ferrovore, but it probably won't wheel.

    Pack 2 Pick 4:

    Painsmith
    Auriok Replica
    Bonds of Quicksilver
    Galvanic Blast -
    Ezuri's Archers
    Plague Stinger
    Flameborn Hellion
    Wall of Tanglecord
    Copperhorn Scout
    Melt Terrain
    Auriok Sunchaser
    Swamp

A rather important pick, here. Painsmith and Galvanic Blast are two very solid cards, but honestly, this deck probably wants the Blast more. It depends on its sacrifice engines more than its artifacts.

    Pack 2 Pick 5:

    Necrogen Scudder
    Ichor Rats
    Ferrovore
    Salvage Scout
    Plated Seastrider
    Grasp of Darkness -
    Ghalma's Warden
    Oxidda Daredevil
    Bleak Coven Vampires
    Plague Stinger
    Plains

This is a pack that makes me cry. Necrogen Scudder is a card I've never tried in this deck, but I'm positive it's a solid beater. Ferrovore is a solid finisher in this deck, so having more is never bad. Daredevil is also never bad in multiples, and Bleak Coven Vampires is actually really good if you can get it going, but I have to pick Grasp of Darkness. It's just too good a card not to pick.

    Pack 2 Pick 6:

    Liquimetal Coating
    Viridian Revel
    Tainted Strike
    Turn To Slag
    Withstand Death
    Blistergrub -
    Blackcleave Goblin
    Razorfield Thresher
    Blade-Tribe Berserkers

I probably was better off with Turn To Slag here, but honestly, Blistergrub is not that much different than Perilous Myr. You get value out of it dying, which is the kind of card this deck wants.

    Pack 2 Pick 7:

    Twisted Image
    Auriok Replica
    Necrogen Censer
    Soul Parry
    Scrapdiver Serpent
    Melt Terrain
    Whitesun's Passage
    Fume Spitter -
    Swamp

Finally, a freakin' Fume Spitter! It is possibly the most solid card in the whole deck, as it's aggressively costed, stunts the growth of enemy mana by killing Myr, and can do some nasty things defensively in combat (with Furnace Celebration, it effectively is able to stop three creatures from getting through. That's pretty awesome, last time I checked.) Necrogen Censer is worth mention as a slower Flame Javelin that hits the face. 4 damage for 3 mana is never really that bad a prospect if you ask me, and it sticks around to support Metalcraft or Furnace Celebration.

    Pack 2 Pick 8:

    Furnace Celebration -
    Auriok Replica
    Plated Seastrider
    Vulshok Heartstoker
    Bladed Pinions
    Flameborn Hellion
    Vector Asp
    Island

8th pick Furnace Celebration? You shouldn't have.

    Pack 2 Pick 9:

    Blackcleave Goblin
    Copperhorn Scout
    Saberclaw Golem
    Blade-Tribe Berserkers
    Melt Terrain
    Ferrovore -
    Island

Ferrovore and Blade-Tribe Berserkers wheeled, but I'm lacking artifacts at this point in time, so I took the Ferrovore, who is great even with just one artifact on the board.

    Pack 2 Pick 10:

    Tunnel Ignus -
    Goblin Gaveleer
    Ezuri's Archers
    Vault Skyward
    Vector Asp
    Mountain

    Hell, why not?

    Pack 2 Pick 11:

    Turn To Slag
    Melt Terrain
    Razorfield Thresher
    Vulshok Replica -
    Swamp

One wheeled, as did Turn to Slag, but you want to milk Furnace Celebration for all it's worth. Dealing 8 damage for 4 mana on turn 4's pretty awesome, last I heard.

    Pack 2 Pick 12:

    Wall of Tanglecord -
    Copperhorn Scout
    Melt Terrain
    Swamp

Wall of Tanglecord's easily the most annoying card in the format, so I took it to prevent its shenanigans from stopping me.

    Pack 2 Pick 13:

    Oxidda Daredevil
    Bleak Coven Vampires -
    Plains

Both wheeled. Odd. I take the Vampires since I have a Daredevil already and diversifying the deck's attack angles is honestly better than just having another Daredevil IMO. Sadly, at this time, I didn't think of the fact that I was too artifact-light to get its effect off reliably, but at the same time, a 4/3 for 5 isn't the worst when everything else is 1/1 or X/1.

    Pack 2 Pick 14:
    Tainted Strike -
    Forest

A way to stop Infect decks from suddenly killing me dead is pretty awesome.

    Pack 2 Pick 15:

    Swamp -

    Pack 3 Pick 1:

    Hand of the Preators
    Clone Shell
    Palladium Myr
    Throne of Geth
    Tel-Jilad Fallen
    Perilous Myr -
    Stoic Rebuttal
    Vault Skyward
    Echo Circlet
    Panic Spellbomb
    Sky-Eel School
    Plague Stinger
    Bonds of Quicksliver
    Revoke Existence
    Island

...Another HotP. Are you freakin' kidding me. -sigh-
That aside, there really isn't all that much for me here. Clone Shell is IMO too expensive for this deck, though its effect is quite nice if I had picked up an otherwise infinite-mana bombshell like Liege of the Tangle, Platinum Empyrion or such. As is, it's between Perilous Myr and Panic Spellbomb, and the Myr is ridiculous in the deck, as stated earlier, so a second is entirely welcome for the deck.

    Pack 3 Pick 2:

    Halt Order
    Arc Trail -
    Acid Web Spider
    Melt Terrain
    Tel-Jilad Defiance
    Leaden Myr
    Snapsail Glider
    Cystbearer
    Neurok Invisimancer
    Corpse Cur
    Scoria Elemental
    Golden Urn
    Contagious Nim
    Plains

I love it when suckers pass me 2-for-1's!

    Pack 3 Pick 3:

    Semblance Anvil
    Thrummingbird
    Kemba's Skyguard
    Leaden Myr -
    Origin Spellbomb
    Ichorclaw Myr
    Bonds of Quicksliver
    Withstand Death
    Molder Beast
    Auriok Replica
    Vedalken Certarch
    Screeching Silclaw
    Mountain

    LOL Semblance Anvil.
Leaden Myr helps solidify this pile, though Origin Spellbomb is tempting. (FYI, it's worth a white splash to draw a card, if you ask me. Just play one Plains; you don't always need the draw.)

    Pack 3 Pick 4:

    Bloodshot Trainee
    Melt Terrain
    Screeching Silclaw
    Copper Myr
    Leaden Myr -
    Ghalma's Warden
    Auriok Replica
    Neurok Replica
    Wall of Tanglecord
    Kuldotha Rebirth
    Mountain
    FOIL Soul Parry

With one card that turns on Bloodshot Trainee not named Necrotic Ooze or Trigon of Rage or with the word "Equipment" in its card type, I decided it's a poor pick to try and force it to work. Neurok Replica and Kuldotha Rebirth is cute, but the latter will wheel. Leaden Myr is solid, and you can honestly never have enough Myr. Once they've done their duty, they're sacrifice fodder.

    Pack 3 Pick 5:

    Vigil for the Lost
    Barrage Ogre -
    Melt Terrain
    Tel-Jilad Defiance
    Whitesun's Passage
    Nihil Spellbomb
    Wing Puncture
    Neurok Replica
    Relic Putrescence
    Plains
    FOIL Semblance Anvil

    LOL FOIL SEMBLANCE ANVIL.
Barrage Ogre is honestly amazeballs in this deck, despite its hefty cost. Nihil Spellbomb and Neurok Replica are decent, though.

    Pack 3 Pick 6:

    Saberclaw Golem
    Vulshok Hearstoker
    Golem Foundry
    Molder Beast
    Stoic Rebuttal
    Nihil Spellbomb -
    Echo Circlet
    Bonds of Quicksliver
    Fulgent Distraction
    Mountain

Nihil Spellbomb and two trap cards (Saberclaw Golem and Vulshok Heartstoker). Not much else to say about that.

    Pack 3 Pick 7:

    Screeching Silclaw
    Blunt the Assault
    Soul Parry
    Origin Spellbomb
    Strider Harness
    Blade-Tribe Berserkers -
    Relic Putrescence
    Carapace Forger
    Plains

Tired of passing this one, figured I'd see if he might work here. (PSST: It didn't. Origin Spellbomb would've been so much better...even I underrate that one in this deck.)

    Pack 3 Pick 8:

    Copperline Gorge
    Steady Progress
    Assault Strobe
    Accorder's Shield -
    Bonds of Quicksliver
    Fulgent Distraction
    Neurok Replica
    Forest

And my bad pick streak continues. I should've taken Neurok Replica; I'd forgotten I had the Darkslick Shores. Accorder's Shield is a card I want to like, but I just can't make use out of.

    Pack 3 Pick 9:

    Stoic Rebuttal
    Vault Skyward
    Echo Circlet
    Panic Spellbomb -
    Sky-Eel School
    Bonds of Quicksilver
    Island

You don't have to ask me twice. Passing a buttload of blue here...lol.

    Pack 3 Pick 10:

    Melt Terrain
    Tel-Jilad Defiance -
    Neurok Invisimancer
    Scoria Elemental
    Golden Urn
    Plains

Nothing for me. I considered the Golden Urn, but then I remembered that Sun Droplets it is not.

    Pack 3 Pick 11:

    Semblance Anvil
    Withstand Death
    Auriok Replica -
    Screeching Silclaw
    Mountain

    LOL Semblance Anvil wheeling.
It says "sacrifice" in its rules text, why not?

    Pack 3 Pick 12:

    Melt Terrain
    Kuldotha Rebirth -
    Mountain
    FOIL Soul Parry

    Pack 3 Pick 13:

    Vigil For the Lost -
    Whitesun's Passage
    Plains

Have I told you how much this card annoys me? It really does.

    Pack 3 Pick 14:

    Echo Circlet
    Mountain -

    Pack 3 Pick 15:

    Plains -

So I have a rather...strange pile. This is what it ended up being:

    -16- Creatures

    -1- Bleak Coven Vampires
    -1- Blistergrub
    -1- Dross Hopper
    -1- Fume Spitter
    -1- Painsmith
    -1- Barrage Ogre
    -1- Embersmith
    -1- Ferrovore
    -1- Oxidda Daredevil
    -1- Oxidda Scrapmelter
    -3- Leaden Myr
    -2- Perilous Myr
    -1- Vulshok Replica

    -8- Other Spells

    -1- Grasp of Darkness
    -1- Arc Trail
    -2- Furnace Celebration
    -1- Galvanic Blast
    -1- Shatter
    -1- Nihil Spellbomb
    -1- Panic Spellbomb

    -16- Lands

    -10- Mountain
    -6- Swamp

I hope you enjoyed this. I plan on doing at least one for each draft format that sculpts itself. (I like the fact that Wizards is reversing set order drafting for each draft format after Besieged is released; I like drafting the 149's first to get more copies of essential cards for the archetypes you're trying to draft.)

If you don't already know, Limited is my favorite format. nbd. =D

Let me know what you think! =)

I feel that first pick Painsmith was pretty fair of a pick - though, Tumble Magnet (and possibly Strider Harness) were also somewhat valid options, since they are also quite good cards - especially Strider Harness in aggro. Painsmith is quite decent in its own right however.

The rest was pretty good; Blade-Tribe was not an extremely good choice as you remarked later, but I suppose things like that happen. The rest was pretty good; however, I think that Golden Urn might have been better than Tel-Jilad Defiance late pack 3 - it does sack itself, after all, and.. uh, Furnace Celebration?

Yeah, the deck looks pretty fun, but I've never tried drafting Furnace Celebration.

    Maybe I should try it.

Strider Harness is a card I've had a fair amount of experience with, and I must say, it's a great card to be behind on, an even better one to be ahead on, and makes racing so much more complicated. However, there are many instances where I'd prefer to just cast a better 3-drop (like Celebration).

I also don't like Golden Urn when I'm positive it won't make the cut, whereas I think Tel-Jilad Defiance is absurdly and criminally underrated. The card can cause a complete blowout all by itself.

I just don't like the thought of playing a really, really, really bad Lightning Helix.
