One of my favourite, and underrated poison types is Muk. With a reasonable attack and quite nice defences, it can probably become a bit more useful in the D/P generation. I'm just wondering your thoughts on Muk.

One of the ideas I'm toying wiith looks like this:

    Muk @ Toxic Orb/Choice Band/Life Orb
    Nature: Adamant
    EV: 252 HP / 252 Att / 6 SpDef
    Trait: Sticky Hold
    Fire Punch
    Earthquake
    Stone Edge
    Explosion

Any thoughts on how to improve this?

    Shadow Ball
    Substitute
    Focus Punch
Thunderbolt should be the set. With Rash Nature.

Ah, Mixmuk. That'll be worth trying for Skarmbliss death. His SpAtt isn't too shabby either.

EV suggestion for Mixmuk - HP 252 (it can do 101 subs IIRC) / Att 64 / 194 SpAtt

Greater power, for one thing, I'd have thought. Although most psychics tend to have lower Defence stats.

And Muks Atk is bigger than it's Special Atk. And it never fails, so it can be a nice way to counter Froslass in Hail.

But Froslass is completely rare to see, and after all, it is just one UU Pokemon

Shadow Punch seems to be a better option for him, then.

Might need to fix those EVs a bit though.

Muk is also an UU pokemon. And UU special wall. And one of the most common special sweepers is Froslass - on Shoddy battle I've seen UU teams with Froslass 1/3 of the time.

Muk may be UU, but I'm aiming to use him in an OU environment. Hence the Skarmbliss killer. Frosslass is quite frail anyway

Still, Psychic Pokémons usually raise their Special Defense with Calm Mind, so Shadow Punch is still cooler. But it's up to you to choose.

Um. Just a suggestion, maybe Acid Armor/Curse can be in place of Shadow Ball? But then it's a decesion of wheater, Type Coverage, or Bulkiness. It can be a Tank, can't it? (With Curse, I think so, as it matches the description).

Yeah, I could make it a Cursemuk, but I want to try something different.

Now, another thought crosses my mind - Thunderbolt or Flamethrower? Which would be more useful?

I'd say Fire Blast would be the best, to take out something like Skarmory (if the need arises). His Special Attack is nothing to be proud of, so you'll want that extra boost, if minus the accuracy.

Focus Punch and Substitute work nice on him, since he can make 101 Subs (taking two Seismic Toss/Night Shades to break).

And the last move can be something like Shadow Sneak, to surprise any Alakazam or Gengar coming in to spoil your fun. Explosion can work too, but on a whole I generally disprove of those kinds of moves. But it's up to you!

I was thinking about Shadow Sneak, but I'd prefer the higher power of Shadow Punch.

So, I think we've ended up with:

    Muk @ Black Sludge
    Nature: Quiet
    EV: 252 HP / 68 Att / 190 SpAtt
    Trait: Sticky Hold
    Shadow Punch
    Focus Punch
    Substitute
    Fire Blast

I'm quite happy with that now. I just wish Muk would get a better trait choice.

I'm not sure if muk can know ice punch but it counters groudon and other ground types.

Muk can get the punches from Emerald Move Tutors. However, there's no point, since a nice Focus Punch in the face will do just as much damage.

    Ice Punch = 75 base damage x 2 (super effective) = 150
    Focus Punch = 150 base damage = 150

As you can see, no point in giving Muk Ice Punch. Besides, there are much better ways of beating Ground types than that.

good point but why sub punch?

thanks but thunder punch kills skarm and bliss.
