Multiples Files?

Well Game Freak didn't program their games with random westerners in mind so they work under their assumption of booming network infrastructures, large population densities (See also, C-Gear, 3DS Streetpass) and readily available access to wireless internet.

Yeah it kinda sucks but what can you do about it.

1. Get a rom of your Pokemon game of choice
2. Play the game
3. Rename savefile
4. Start new game

There, multiple files. Easy - all it requires is some file name juggling. I did it only like once though.
Let's just pretend that wasn't a totally obvious solution

I'm not as bothered about getting all the Pokemon via this potential method, rather I hate it if I ever want to restart the game to do a challenge or the like and and get rid of the hard-earned work done up to that point. An extra save-file would be very good if you wanted a 'main' game-file and a 'challenge' game-file... which is something I do desire greatly.

I don't like using roms. I like playing on the actual cartridge. Your point is moot for people that don't have an r4 chip or something similar for their DS, and don't want to play on the computer. I like my portable games portable.

I do that all the time. I think Game Freak even had that in mind. I guess so.

Noob out.

I don't see the point as I take every Pokemon from other games and put them into my main game that I'm then playing. Let's us say there were more than one save file, what would be the point except to play the game differently? You could of course use it to transfer Pokemon from one file to the other but why would you need to when playing the same game.

I always wished this was possible but after waiting so long I decided to just give up. I tend to delete a lot of my files. But i've gotten a lot better.

What's wrong with playing the game differently, why is that not a valid enough reason to want multiple save files?

By the time DPPt came out, my mom couldn't afford to buy us both new Pokemon games, and we would fight if she got just one, since there's only one save file. Therefore, I entirely missed that generation of Pokemon due to the lack of a save file. The fact that there is no extra save file just makes me wonder if Gamefreak doesn't want something like what my family would have done happening, two people playing on the same cartridge, because then they make less money.

I'm sure GF has thought and pondered an extra save file many times, but all that data just won't fit onto the game card. I have really, really wanted extra save files, saves me buying new games, but yeah it just wont happen :(

I would image that a whole new battery would have to be created to be able to sustain more information and that such a battery would not last due to holding far too much. Basically I imagine it would be overkill on the hardware; so if it were possible I am sure it would be quite a task and not wroth it.

Personally I do not find it necessary; For about half the cartridges I own I don't ever value the files enough to mind them being replaced; I have done it several times on said cartridges.

I also use ROMs, so if I ever wanted a new beginning in a version I did not want to erase a file from I can just use a ROM version of it instead. Although I have not been able to find a working emulator for the DS , but it's not a big deal. I mostly enjoy VBA ROMs and ROM hacks.

So can't say I'd use such a feature.

Back in the day before GBC roms and the wonderful G/S came out there was only one and my mom expected me and my cousin to share it. Boo. Instead of buying another game I bought something that that wasn't licensed by Nintendo called 'the Mega Memory Manager' or something like that. The idea was you could save your game on to there, start a new game, and then boot it up. Of course this thing only worked half the time and gave all my Pokemon Pokerus.

But who knows with third party accessories, there might be one of these out there somewhere for the DS that actually work.

It wouldn't work as that would mean that one would be able to catch and trade two legendaries of the same species at any given time. Impossible and shouldn't be implemented at all.
