Music Chit-Chat

Punks are amazing musicians, depending on the people you're looking at. Anti-Flag are amazing musicians.

Eliana, if Anti-Flag is good music, then i am not sure if you have heard metal...

Punk is dead, in fact it never existed. "Punk" is an ideal of fighting against commercialism and society. All of these "punk" bands have greatest hits CDs, and received heavy radio play. They were part of the culture as much as a pop artist.

I guess I should say that I like pretty much everything. I used to be just into what I heard on the radio, but then I got into High School and found a happy medium of music from everywhere. Right now I'm listening to The Broken Social Scene's album, good stuff.

...

*dies*

XDDDDDDDDD I hate this forum. It was bound to happen after 2 years. Why? Because the people in the entertainment section have absolutely no brains. I've been at a Green Day fansite lately. Most people follow my ideas, and agree with the fact that Punk is alive. o_o Or they do something called "Respect My Opinion". (With all due respect to you all.)

1) I am highly offended by your assumption that I do not listen to Metal. I listen to various branches of Metal as well as Industrial. Of course I'm not as knowledgable about Metal as I am with Punk etc., but I do respect Metallica (I'm pretty fond of these guys), Black Sabbath, stuff like that. I don't listen to Nile and Cannibal Corpse, but at least I'm aware they exist. Oh, and Arch Enemy as well.

You can't compare Punk Rock to Metal. They're 2 entirely seperate things. And by Metal, you can mean any of the branches from that genre (i.e Black Metal, Death Metal, Thrash Metal, etc.)

2) (At AuroPervert) You are something I like to call a mainstreamer. This is not an offense, it's just the truth. You're looking at radio play, not the underground. You're looking at "Pop Punk" bands such as Blink182 and Good Charlotte, whom corrupted the Punk Scene.

If you want Punk bands that aren't aired, I'll give you a list (However, some of these aren't as underground as they used to be):
Anti-Flag, Against Me!, Abandin All Hope, Dropkick Murphys (Although they are pretty popular), I Am The Avalanche, Lagwagon, Man Alive, None More Black, No Use For A Name, The Panic Division, Race The Sun, Rise Against, Sleater Kinney, Strike Anywhere, The Soviettes, The Suicide Machines, Transition, Thin Dark Line, The Unseen, Useless I.D., Versus the World...The list goes on and on. THESE are the bands which are most likely the closest to reflecting Punk from the 70's. There are tons more, but I won't irk you all with band names anymore. =]

Pop Punk may have corrupted proper punk, but that doesn't mean that the bands aren't good. Blink 182 made some brilliant songs (I miss you, What's my age again?).

Hope AVA are just as good.

Um... I listen to the Dropkick Murphys, Sleater Kinney, and bands like that. I wasn't talking about Good Charlotte, I was talking about bands like The Ramones, and The Clash. I was talking about so-called "real" punk bands. I don't know where you go the idea that I was referring to recent bands.

And since when did you hear Broken Social Scene on the radio? I was just commenting on how bands like The Clash, and other parts of the so-called London Underground were such a pivotal piece in their respective cultures.

I don't see your arguement.

You should really stop dropping the names of bands you like because they are "underground." My fourteen year old cousin listens to most of that list.

I highly doubt your cousins know Versus the World or Man Alive. =]

I didn't say Broken Social Scene was on the radio, I'm saying you're basing your perspectives of Punk based on mainstream bands. THAT is why I "dropped" the names of underground bands. I don't really care about your 14year old cousins either.

...

Did you just say The Pistols aren't Punk? Because if you did, you bring shame to music. The Pistols next to The Clash STARTED Punk, I don't want to see any of this mediocre nonsense ever again.

Punk is just Rock N' Roll with some hard drugs added. I won't accept a genre of music thats claim is rebellion, yet it manages to assimilates itself into popular culture, making billions of dollars in revenue. I'm not saying that I don't like punk music, I do, but its purpose is total hypocrisy, so I don't actuall consider it a genre.

....

Excuse me?

I can think of 10 Punk bands that are clean (i.e don't do drugs) Anti-Flag is a good example.

Dude, as I said you're only focusing on the mainstream!

Underground bands Are. Not. Played. On. The. Freaking. Radio. Most Punk bands are barely known. They actually struggle to HAVE a band because they DON'T have money. =/

Eli don't make statements you don't know are true. You don't know these bands personally, you don't know if they are or are not "clean". Anyway, what is your whole one-sided view about music? Open your mind for one second. NOT EVERY ****ING PERSON KNOWS ALOT OF UNDERGROUND BANDS. It is about 75% of people get thier music from the RADIO...exactly where they don't play underground bands. Stop getting so defensive about punk rocka and get over yourself! *runs away* Don't bother to respond to this cuase I don't give a **** what you have to say...I won't be back in the thread anytime soon.

PS...I am not trying to be mean with this response...just think about what I am trying to say...

Last time I checked Anti-Flag signed on with RCA, one of the biggest record labels in the country.

Doesn't mean anything. Good point, however. Good to know some people know the few decent bands in existance. =]

They won't get aired at all. They're too left wing. If you're too left wing, you're not going to wanna be played.

Or take The Unseen. Hm?

Thomas: I probably should ignore you. =] It's called "The First Amendment" and The Right To Free Speech. Maybe you should read more often. Kthx.

I have every right to stand up for my genre. If you have a problem with that, then just don't read what I have to say. And you're wrong, my dear. I've met many of these bands, in person. But thanks for assuming things about me.

I have totally lost dignity in this forum...=/

Anti-Flag didn't recieve air play on their major record release because the album was trash, their old stuff was much better.

Considering that the media is practically owned by liberals that kind of thing is praised.

Look at the success of movies like Farenheit 9/11, having a political message that's left wing is like a gold pass, not a ball and chain.

o_O

Anti-Flag's albums are not trash, they are one of the few succesful left wing bands that exist today. I have full confidence For Blood And Empire will be as good as well.

...The media is not owned by liberals. Maybe some Left-Wings, but no. Sure there's a ton of Underground Liberals who have crudloads of sites offending the government, but still. A Republican IS (unfortunately) in office, there's bound to be tons of Right-Wings.

Rock Against Bush was a project mobilizing punk rock musicians against the 2004 U.S. Presidential campaign of George W. Bush.

In addition to NOFX, performers include Rise Against, Pennywise, Anti-Flag, Sugarcult, Green Day, Sum 41 among many others.

I repeat, the liberals own the media. They always have, and they always will. Hollywood is like a liberal breeding ground, and I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that, but when was the last time you saw a Pro-Bush movie with wide release? Never? I thought so.

HEy, I have Rock Against Bush Vol 1! I think they made a Vol. 2 as well.

Yes, they did.

There was also the "Rock the Vote Tour," and the "Vote or Die Tour." Both really equated to voting for John Kerry, not George W. Bush. Obviously they both were run by liberals in an attempt to elect a liberal.

The media, and this includes motion pictures, television, radio, and print, are all run by liberals. It's been that way forever, and it will always be that way, no matter who is the President of the United States.

Do you believe in the conspiracy theories...?

...XD That's all I can say reading your post. Unless you're majorly Right-Wing or something.

Yep, they made a RAB 2. I have both volumes, you should get them if you hate certain powers that be. ^_^

I may go to a concert tomorrow night. Sadly, I won't be going to the Dropkick Murphys...=/ It sold out for St. Patricks day.

I'm an independent actually, and I don't see why you call them conspiracy theories, Rock the Vote, and Vote or Die were just liberal propoganda machines to get the young demographic who seems to complain but not vote.

I'm not exactly sure what those even are o_O I'm better with Israeli politics, I lived in Israel for 4 years.

They were campaigns to get young people to vote in the elections, and hence try to overthrow Bush, since young people are more likely to be liberal and/or progressive. This is the problem with optional voting. In Australia, if you're 18 or older you must vote, and there are fines if you don't.
