I have not actually started my game yet as I am repeatedly starting again until I get a cool game ID (just something I do! ;))...

But when I do I want to have a good team, with great moves and trained in the best possible way... so... I need your help! ;)

I will be starting with Charmander and will be rushing through the game so that I have the lowest possible completion time on my trainer card... I was considering transfering it to another game to train and then put back on my FireRed so that battles are easier - depending on the best way to train him of course! ;)

I will go through the elite four just with Charizard as I have done b4... but then I want to start training a killer team...

Up till now I have been under the impression that each pokemon should have 4 offensive moves of different types... so I know very little about the effects of stat boosting moves and how well they work etc!

The kind of pokemon I want in my sqaud are...
    Charizard (obviously)
Mewtwo (not really cause of stats - i just think it's the coolest!)
    Dragonite
Jirachi (I have a few legit Jirachi's from the UK version of Pokemon Channel)
    Raichu
    Jolteon
    Butterfree
    Ariados
    Steelix
    Flygon

I have had a mess around with getting as many differnt types etc as possible... but as yet can't really come up with much! I know that Charizard is a definate and that I will definately be training Mewtwo even if I don't always use him...

Any tips, advice etc is much appreciated!

Note: Just so you know, I have been reading various faq's and guides etc (including some on this site) and it just confuses me more than anything...

You get confuesd by all of the FAQs on evs and such? Well, an easy way to ev train whould be to just battle the pokemon theat give the evs and count. I take it your going to re-breed your charizard to get a decent ms, like:

    Charizard@Salac
    evs:252 Attack/252 Speed/6 Hp
    Nature: Jolly

    ~Flamthower
    ~Rock slide/earthquake
    ~Aerial ace
    ~Dragon Dance/sword dance/belly drum

Last move obtainable through breeding.Mewtwo is a cool pokemon, but i dont use him much anymore.

    Mewtwo@Petya
    evs:252 Sp.Attack/252 Speed/6 Hp
    Nature:Modest

    ~Thunderbolt
    ~Ice Beam
    ~Phychic
    ~Recover

Dragonite is similar to zard, but more of a special sweeper than physical.

    Dragonite@Salac
    evs:252 speed/129 sp.att/129 att
    Nature:Rash

    ~t-bolt/i-beam
    ~Dragon dance
    ~Flamethrower/f-blast
    ~Earthquake/aerial ace/wing attack

    Jirachi is like mewtwo....

    Jirachi @ Salac berry
EVs: 252 Special Attack, 252 Speed, 6 HP
    Nature: Timid
    ~ Calm Mind
    ~ Thunderbolt
    ~ Psychic
    ~ Wish/ Substitute/ Thunder Wave

    Jolteon>Rachiu cos of speed

    Jolteon@Petaya/Leftovers
    EVs: 252 Special Attack/Speed/6 HP
    Nature:Timid
    ~Thunderbolt
    -HP Ice/HP Water/HP Grass
    -Substitute
    -Thunder Wave

    Butterfree in competitive is lol...

    Butterfree@Petaya
EVs: 252 Special Attack/HP/6 Special Defense
    Nature:Modest
    ~Sleep Powder
    ~Psychic
    ~Giga Drain
    ~HP Water/Silver Wind

    So is adrios

    Ariados@Leftovers
    EVs: 252 Attack/HP/Defense
    Nature:Admant
    ~Signal Beam/Sludge Bomb/Night Shade
    ~Spider Web
    ~Baton Pass
    ~Agility

    Steelix is ok

    Steelix @ Leftovers
    EVs: 252 HP/6 Defense/Attack/172 Special Defense/Defense
    Nature: Impish
    ~Earthquake
    ~Rock Slide
    ~Explosion/Double Edge
    ~Roar

    Flygon.....

    Flygon @ Salac Berry/ Leftovers/ Choice Band
    EVs:252 Attack/Special Attack/252 Speed/6 HP
    Nature: Timid/Jolly
    - Earthquake/Crunch
    - Rock Slide/Flamethrower
    - Return/Dragon Claw
    - Hidden Power [Ghost]/Giga Drain

    I whould go with:

    Zard
    Mewtwo
    Adrios
    Steelix
    Jolteon
    Jirachi

It whould be a decent team. IF u want to know anyfing else about evs and such, pm me

Along with the Sp.Sweeper Mewtwo, you COULD Phys.Sweep (but Sp.Sweeping is better IMO)

    Mewtwo @Salac/Lefties (Adamant Nature +Attack, -Sp.Attack)
    EVs: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 6 Hp
    -EQ
    -Bulk Up
    -Shadow Ball
    -Iron Tail

Raichu is a great Pokemon. You can get Pikachu very early in the game. Here's a Raichu MS:

    Raichu (Modest/Timid Natures)
    EVs: 252 Sp.Attack, 252 Speed, 6 Hp
    -Thunderbolt
-HP Water,Grass,Ice/Surf (if you can get Surf)
    -Thunder Wave
-Light Screen (I find it useful when battling the E4)

    I hope this helps!

Well...I will be breeding the charizard.. but I will want to use my original charizard as much as possible really.. and have him as a 'final' member in my squad...

With the EV stuff etc.. I have heard that you could just use 10 of each iron carbos etc and 1 hp up on your pokemon early on and that would be all of the ev training done... would that not work well?

And how bad would it be if I did just battle anyone on my way to the elite four not taking into consideration EV training...considering overall i'd still have the same amount of stats... right?

I would also like to have a squad that is made up of primarly offensive moves... but relly cool combo's e.g seed with toxic and so on... I am interested in... and how great do stat boosting moves work?

there is a thing called edit>>delete please try it

    EDIT: Good Job!

As long as you don't use Rare Candies ONLY on your Pokemon. In-game, EVs aren't really necessary... but just as long as you lv. up your Pokemon by battling other Pokemon, you'll be fine.

BTW, you won't have to breed your Charizard if you teach it Swords Dance.

oh, ok! Kool!!! thx for the help ppl! :D

I'll probably ask for more advice once i've actually started my game... ;) :P

    Ev training is challenging:

255 is max for a stat

1 Carbos, protein, etc boosts your stats by 10 for each one you use

after those you can EV train further by battling:

    Whismur for HP boostage
    Carvanha for Atk boostage
    Sandshrew/Skarmory for Def boostage
    Zubat/Golbat for speed boostage
    Spinda for SpAtk boostage
    Tentacool for SpDef boostage

each battle boosts your pokes 1 Ev so battle wisely since you have a max of 510 Evs Total and a max of 255 on each stat.

I suggest you only allow 252 max for each stat since the stat stays the same from between 252-255.

after the 510th battle for that pokemon you are done and none of the rest of your battles count towards your EVs

Sure sounds like Serebii. Anyway, that's just to fill your 510 EVs. You will want to give each poke an EV spread that maximizes its strengths and weaknesses. For example, you'll want to give a sweeper atk or def EVs (obviously depending if it's a physical or special sweeper) and often speed. A tank or sponge's EVs would concentrate mostly in HP and the defenses. Don't just fill the EVs for the sake of it, make it strategic. With the macho brace, you can double your EV earning, and you can use the Exp Share in your advantage. Train against pokes that give you EVs for the stats you want, and keep a tally of how many EVs of each stat your pokes gain. Also, use vitamins to help you, but only for the stats in which you want to boost EVs. Good luck with your new Fire Red and take care.

Dragon king is right.Great stat boosters(Calm mind,Bulk up,D-Dance etc) are even better when bato passed, so the user has'nt lost any hp over it.Example:

    Alex sent out Alakzam!
    Someone sent out Tyranatr!
    Alakzam used calm mind!
    Foe Tyranatar used crunch!
    100% damage!
    Alakzam fainted!

Watch wat would happen if u used a Bper to pass the much-rasied stats:

    Alex sent out Espeon!
    Someone sent out T-tar!
    Espon used Calm mind!
    T-tar used crunch!
    55% Damage!
    Espeon used Calm mind!
    T-tar used crunch!
    30% Damage!
    Espeon used Baton pass!
    Alakzam was sent out!
    T-tar used crunch!
    30% Damage!
    Zam used Ice punch!
    100% damage

    There u go

    (Battles are'nt 100% realalistic)

A CMcune/CMkiou can almost OHKO anything in its path, so it is rated 00ber at times.Bulking-up Machamp can be an awsome pokemon to have on youre team. One calm mind for a zam can mean the difference between a OHKO and a 2HKO in both cases-Offensive and defensive. A d-danced t-tar with a sub-punch combo is sexy. All these combos relay on a stat booster for awsom damage/defense/speed. For instance,two-three d-dances on a t-tar can make it faster than a ev trained jolteon/aerodactyl, and 1-2 more makes it faster than nisjask after ev trained. A d-danced/s-danced zard can OHKO with rock slide/eq/aa easily. You need a team with mabye two sweeprs, a tank or two and a Bper.

There u go. A reson why stat boosters are a MUST on each and every team.

I thought the idea was to actually rare candy up your pokemon so you can give them stat boosters (carbos etc) to get max base stats then ev train

when ev training does the level of the pokemon your battling matter or is it always 1 ev per battle?

    its always 1 EV

even if you are battling a level 100 whismur you will still only get 1 hp ev
