My First Sprite

how can i make my sprites, More "Pokemon Style", is it the colours or the way they are drawn?

Both. it's also the way it was shaded. A pokemon sprite (if it;s FR/LG style, it';s 64x64) it has to fit a certain size. i don't know what it is for D/P as I've not really sprited in that style much but it won't be hugely above the 80s. The lighting, as shinjislover mentioned, usually comes from the top left corner, however you need to take into account the anatomy of the pokemon and how that would add shadows, along with outlining muscles. Your outline also needs shading. The palette you used was too subdued, pokemon usually have brighter, more vibrant colours. Your creature didn't fit any of the style criteria therefore it didn't need to follow a top left light source, it's important you don't get confused and posts telling you the incorrect info to the said sprite will only throw you down the wrong path.

Feel free to VM me about anything relating to pixel art, I'll gladly help you out with some terminology and critiques.

ok, thnx... I had real trouble scratching, I couldn't get the pokemon to look in the right direction...

lol, it was crap anyway, I'll try summing else

Y'know, I was only giving an example. I wish you would leave me alone and quit searching purposely for my attention. I didn't say 'do it exactly like this'. If you read, you'd notice that I said 'look how the shading it coming from the top-left'. You really need to stop telling people I'm wrong all the time when you don't even take a good look at your own posts.

As for Polichu, it's too big, first of all.

I have being posting in PA for what, 4 years and you claim i only come here to get your attention? Whatever floats your boat I guess.

Just remember that the lighting comes from the top-left
Looks to me like you were telling him that it has to be from top left.

Anyway Sprugless, if you want to try another scratch, just do a quick outline a drop me a VM with it in it, i'll give you some tips and help you fix it up if you want.

ok thnx, Maybe the Pokemon is abit big, but i am using Poccils starter kit, so it looks the right size in game :D

This is my first ever fusion, I really love him too...

All C&C welcome, I love my leaf, i think it came out really well, but the body of the Fakemon isn't so good, so I'm not that happy with it, but I'll try and get better :D

Well, let me say that your advancement as a spriter has already been greatly shown. Despite the discrepencies between two of our senior residents... your leaf sprite looks absolutely great! You have managed to bring it to life with the shading and tones. I like the coloration, as well as shape. I give you a 9/10 on it... just because the veins look a little strange to me...but that's my oppinon in it's entirety.

As for polychu, i'm glad you love it! Do love it! It's your sprite, show pride in your work!

, but I enlarged it so could learn how to properly shade it... And, do you mean I should start with splices and fusions ect.

He was only temporarily enlarged ^_^

Fox, the size looks fine to me! Its less than 64x64 so it should fit into any 3rd gen style... if i'm not mistaken...

Really, this is not bad at all! I agree with Fox that the shading needs to be more round... probably have it come around to his under side some more and also under the chin a bit... to set out the face from the rest of the sprite.

But there you go! Don't be so hard on yourself...and most certainly, DONT GET DISCOURAGED!!!

Keep Spriting!
