Hello. I had a thread here, but it definitely died.

I don't draw anime stuff and I will *never* color or ink any of my sketches, because I am confident that it will ruin them.

    So, um, enjoy?

    Currently here are:

Carlos Beltran (portrait), Jed Ortmeyer (portrait), Jed Ortmeyer (full body), Petr Prucha (full body), Margaret Rose (painting)

    I'm working on:

    Henrik Lundqvist (full body)

Feedback and critique are always appreciated.

Hehe, I know how it feels when colour ruins a picture! When I've tried to colour sketches it always makes them go wrong XD Since you've scanned them already in black and white, you might be able to try it though, since you'll still have the originals saved! ^^

Anyway, onto the pics! I really like the 3rd one since I'm a sucker for realism-style drawings! Your shading skills are good, especially on the clothing. :) You also have the proportions down on the full-body pics!

I like the second pic, though I think it needs a bit more shading and detail - the eyes look a bit simplistic, and stand out too much from the rest of the face. But it's a very hard thing to get right - I know from experience! - and you've really got a great start here!!

Also, go you for drawing things you're interested in! ^^ I love it when people follow their interests into art. :) Good job!!

Heh, I'd love to try digital coloring-- unfortunately, the extent of my programs for that are Paint and... Paint. Works for small things, but not big pics. I think sketches look better as sketches too, personally. I'm not a big fan of digital art. If I was to color them, it would probably be color pencil.

Yeah, the second one. I did it in about fifteen minutes-- it's really the epitome of a sketch. The main problem with it is the eyes are too high, and it threw all the proportions off. It's actually more shaded than it seems-- it scanned weirdly... not my best.

Haha, I can't draw something I'm not interested in. It doesn't come out well. You have those "I have to draw this!" moments and you go with it, you know?

Thanks very much. I really appreciate it :)

Ah, yeah it sucks when the resources aren't there :( Have you tried oekaki before? ^^ That's a great applet for people who don't have programs like Photoshop or PSP on their comps! :)

I so know what you mean about that XD I draw loads of Red Dwarf related pics and loads of people don't know who the characters are...but I draw them anyway because I know who they are and I love the show! :D hehe!

And you are very welcome! *hugs* If you ever need help with anything don't hesitate to PM me! ^^

    I. Hate. This. Drawing.

Act, I don't think you have any reason to hate that! :D I think it's pretty darn good! I love the way you shade folds in clothing ^^ The shading is a bit messy in places and could be smoothed out...using an eraser or your finger can help! But overall I think this is really good! :D

I came across your DA page too, hehe! ^^ Didn't know you had a DA account!

That would be what I didn't do-- finger-shade it. ::headdesk:: My bad. Though, I'm not sure how much it would help. I just... I dunno. I liked Jed a lot better. A lot.

Hehe, why, yes I'm on DA. I was browsing your stuff yesterday. I'm not quite as magical with pencil and paper as you are on oekaki, but I have some mildly interesting things.

    Thanks very muchly :)

Really? I think its one of your best drawings so far. Did you use the grid to help you with the drawing? Because it looks very proportionally accurate.
Your hockey drawings are also very detailed, much more so than the previous two drawings. You've got the cloth folds down and made a good distinction between the lights and the darks.

Have you ever thought about refining your sketches and doodles into complete drawings? I'm sure you can do it with some time and patience. You've got a good eye for detail.

Hehe, the grid is my best friend. I only use it for outlining, though. Once the basic structure is down I ignore it and just stick to referencing the picture.

The first one I actually did a while ago. The date in my sketchbook was October '04, but I feel like it was in '05. The second one... xD

Anyway, I'd actually like to be able to ink them and stuff, but I don't really have the proper tools, and I know I'd ruin them with sharpies or whatnot. So as it stands now, they're pretty finished. Maybe I'll read some tutorials on it... trouble is, most online drawing guides are anime, and anime drawing tend to be a bit less introcate.

    [/me rambling]

    Thanks for your comments :)

    You're welcome. :)

Yeah, grids are cool, but I'm too lazy to make them unless the drawing is really big. I don't like straight edges much, I guess…

You don't need to ink anything to make a drawing complete. I'm just talking about refining the shady so that's its not so sketchy, adding darker values as needed, and maybe even a background to pull it all together.

Your recent one is by far my favorite of them all. Both the hockey players are realistically drawn~ For the first two, both the faces' angles are a bit awkward to look at, but it can be fixed.

That said, the last one is pretty awesome. Nice job. XP

I can't get it the right size cuz on DA it's way big, but here's the general idea:

It was an assignment in painting class... an acrylic painting of Greenport Harbor and the Margaret Rose.

Oh, wow! This is great! :D You've done a *great* job painting the water - that's one of the hardest things to paint! I myself am useless with acrylics XD I am very impressed with this picture! I definitely think it's your best work yet. ;) It's also nice to see that sort of medium on here!

Keep it up - I would love to see more!

    Why thank you. :)

This is a lot more polished than the other stuff I posted... probably because I had to hand it in for a grade o.o;; I really am fond of it... I don't say that about my own stuff too often, either... -.-

I like painting. Watercolors are something to get used to, but they're a lot of fun, too. :)
