    Prologue

It is late at night, and the clouds are covering the stars and the moon. Outside, two intruders approach the fence of an abandoned mansion. Silently, they move over to the fence, and start to climb it. The pair of them climbs over the fence, and proceed to the entrance way, a door off its hinges?.

?Arc!? came a sound from inside, and suddenly bursting through the door, growling at the pair, was a large fiery Arcanine, who didn?t seem to take kindly to strangers. The female threw a pokeball, revealing a Venonat? the other frowned at the choice, but could see why she did that. The Arcanine turned to face it?s opponent, opened it?s mouth and a jet of flame shot out, but somehow the Venonat jumped out of the way, and started shaking? it leaped over the Arcanine, dusting a powder over the huge dog-like Pokemon? the Arcanine drooped down, then fell to sleep, resting it?s head on it?s paws. The trainer recalled her Venonat, and they both headed inside the mansion.

Inside, they began a frantic search through old records, throwing useless files everywhere.

?Any luck?? calls one of them, the female of the two.

?No,? replies the man. ?You sure this is the right place??

?It wouldn?t be guarded for nothing, now hurry up and find it before that Arcanine wakes up,? she says, then heads over to another filing cabinet to search.

After a few more minutes of searching, going through everywhere they could, the female pulls out a folder, smiling to herself. ?I think I found it!? Blowing the dust from the folder, the title reveals itself ? Project Mewtwo. Just then, the sound of footsteps heads their way, followed by a growling sound?

?He woke up? whispers the man. ?Let me try this time.? Then, he reaches for a pokeball, which opens to reveal a Staryu. He follows the Staryu out to the corridor, standing behind the pokemon, as they both stand in front of the growling Arcanine.

    ?Staryu, Water Gun!?

The Staryu responds by opening the top point and shooting a jet of water at the Arcanine, which is knocked back, and starts yelping as the water covers him. The Staryu stops, as the Arcanine lies on its side for the moment. The man calls the Staryu back to its pokeball.

?Come on, let?s get out of here,? he says. With that, the pair starts to run out of the laboratory, the woman clutching onto the folder as the Arcanine struggles to his feet. He shakes himself off, the water spraying everywhere, and then he starts to walk out of the mansion, weakened from the water blast. He catches a glimpse of them just getting over the fence, and he starts to run but gets there too late, as they both make it over the fence and start to run away into the night. The Arcanine starts howling into the air.

What no-one noticed however, is that a small floating object started following the pair from high in the sky, hidden by the clouds?

    Chapter 1

Matt looked over at his opponent, then at the Pokemon he had chosen to battle with. It was a pretty menacing looking Rhyhorn, and Matt knew he didn?t have anything with a type advantage against the Pokemon. Without a good Grass, Ice, Fighting or Water type, he was in trouble. He looked to his pokeballs, pausing for a moment.

?Well? Are you going to battle or not?? The opponent he was fighting was called James, and was a pretty tough opponent. He has already been to three gyms, denoted by the badges he proudly wore on his jacket. Nevertheless, Matt had challenged him because he was one of the toughest trainers on Cinnibar Island. Matt was around 18, but don't let his age fool you, he's surprisingly tough.

Without saying anything, Matt picked out one of the pokeballs, throwing it in front of the Rhyhorn. Out popped Matt?s toughest and favourite Pokemon, his Absol. His Absol was Matt?s first Pokemon, and one of the babies of his father?s Pokemon. His father had set himself up as a breeder when he retired from training. James looked down at the Absol, sneering at it. ?Ok, this should be over quick. Rhyhorn, Horn Drill attack!?

Matt knew what that meant! His opponent intended to knock his Absol out in one hit! Of course, Horn Drill was known for not hitting very often, but the idea still worried him. ?Absol, Double Team!? The Absol gave off a sort of sheen from it?s white coat, creating an illusion of a second one standing next to it. The Rhyhorn charged forward, its horn rotating like a drill, as he sees the two opponents in front of him, he decides to go for one of them, and charges right through? an empty space. The illusion dissipates, as the Rhyhorn charges straight through. The small crowd that had gathered to see the two fight backs off as the large Pokemon slows down from its charge.

Matt knew he couldn?t let that happen again. ?Absol, Bite him!? The Absol charges after the Rhyhorn, catching a bite around his leg. Absol lets go, and the Rhyhorn winces in pain, as it turns around to look at the Absol.

James frowns, his Rhyhorn was pretty tough, so that bite had to hurt. ?Rhyhorn, Tackle it.? In response, the Rhyhorn pauses, struggling on his foot. Matt grinned, he knew he had the advantage now, it was time to finish the match. ?Absol, Faint Attack.?

The Absol, started to run to the left of the Rhyhorn, and somehow vanishes from sight for a brief moment, reappearing at the right of the Rhyhorn to give it a heavy impact into his side, making the Rhyhorn struggle again on his feet. After a few moments, the Rhyhorn gives up, and lies down, exhausted. The Absol smiles, and runs back to Matt, who pets his Pokemon smiling ?Well done Absol, you did it!?

James stands over his Rhyhorn, looking down at the leg. ?Are you ok? Come on, let?s get you to the Pokemon Centre.? James picks up his pokeball, and the Rhyhorn disappears inside. Then he turns to Matt. ?Hey, you?re pretty tough. What?s your name??

    ?It?s Matt. What?s yours??

?I?m James.? James smiles. ?Guess I?ve still got a bit more training to do.?

?Well, keep working on it, I?m sure you?ll get better next time.? Matt waves, as the trainer heads off in the direction of the Pokemon Centre.

Out of the crowd gathered, there was a lot of talk.

?Wow Matt, that was pretty cool,? says one of the girls gathered there. This was Mandy, and she always seemed to go quiet whenever Matt was around. With anyone else, you could never shut her up.

    ?Er, thanks.? He smiled.

?Hey, have you seen the paper today?? interrupted someone. This was Roger, and was friends with both Matt and Mandy.

?No. Should I have?? asks Matt.

?Oh yeah. You know the old abandoned mansion? Someone broke in their last night!? says Roger, excited.

?Really? Let?s see.? Roger pulls up the newspaper, with the headline ?Mansion Break-In. Arcanine Injured.?

Starting to read the article out loud, Matt looks at the paper. ?Last night, the mansion at Cinnibar Island was broken into. Strangely enough, the crooks didn?t manage to get away with anything, but the Arcanine who was guarding the mansion was injured in their get away. Police are looking into the matter, but so far no evidence has been brought to light.? He looks up. ?Wow, that?s pretty cool. I wonder who breaks into somewhere but doesn?t take anything.?

?Yeah, I was thinking about that. Maybe they did take something but they didn?t want us to know about it? like a big secret or something.? Roger scratches his chin.

?I heard rumours about that old place, wasn?t it owned by Team Rocket at one point?? Matt says.

?Wow, that?s like old. I heard some guy named Red kicked them all out though.? says Mandy.

?Yeah, I heard about that. Maybe there really is some big secret. Wanna go check it out?? says Roger, smiling.

?Are you crazy?? says Mandy ?There?s police and everything up there; we?ll be caught like straight away.?

?Not true. I?ve just been over there. The guard Arcanine has been taken to the Pokemon Centre for healing, and the police have gone for now. It?ll be clear. Maybe we can find out what they were really after?? says Roger

?I dunno, maybe there really wasn?t anything to take. It?s been abandoned for years, after all,? says Matt.

?Yeah, but that makes it more exciting. Come on, I know you?ve both got nothing better to do this afternoon. Besides doing your homework, of course?" Roger grinned. He knew if he reminded them that they had homework to do, they would look into almost anything to get out of it.

Matt shrugged. ?Alright, I?m game. Are you coming too, Mandy??

?Sure, why not.? She frowned, thinking this was a bad idea, but it was better than homework.

    -----------------------------

Elsewhere, in a van somewhere just outside town, the two thieves sat in the front. The files on Project Mewtwo were safely stashed in the glove compartment, and the man was on the phone to someone?

?What do you mean, we have to go back??Uh-huh? ok? right. I see. *sighs* We?ll do it now, before we leave town.? He presses a button and puts the mobile phone away.

?What now? I thought he said that would be it?? the female drums her fingers on the dashboard, impatiently.

?It seems that he wants something else apart from those files. Like he could have told us the first time.? He shrugs. ?He wants us to go into the basement and get a key, said it was very important for something, I dunno.?

?And that?ll be it this time??

?I assume so. He gave me some excuse about not having all the information the first time around. I just hope this is worth the money.?

?It better be. Come on, let?s get this over with and get out of here.?

The female starts up the engine of the van, and drives back towards the mansion.

    --------------------

And that's the end... for now. Hope you like the start of this, more to come soon...

Ok I went a little crazy today and typed up Chapter 2 already. Enjoy.

    Chapter 2

The three teens, Matt, Mandy and Roger make their way to the old mansion on Cinnibar Island, talking among themselves. They walk side by side along the road, Matt in the middle, flanked by Mandy and Roger.

?So, what you think is going on there?? asks Roger, obviously the most enthusiastic of the three. He brushes back his long black hair, grinning as he goes.

?Beats me,? says Matt. He shrugs. ?But it?ll be something interesting though. Maybe gold or jewels or something, it was a big mansion after all.?

?Don?t you remember, the police said there was nothing stolen,? chips in Mandy. She frowns.

?Yeah, that?s what they said, but is that what really happened? Police don?t always tell us everything, you know.? Roger nods. ?So, that leaves it up to us to find out.?

Behind the three friends, a blue van approaches?

    --------------

    Inside the van?

?Do you have to drive so fast?? the man says, nervously. He notices the speedometer is pushing 60 mph.

?I just want to get this over and done with as fast as possible. I knew I was asking for more trouble than it?s worth when we agreed to this.? The female sighs.

?But if you drive this fast, aren?t the cops gonna pull us over for speeding. They?ll ask all sorts of questions.?

She starts easing off on the accelerator. Dealing with the police was the last thing she wanted right now, but she did want this over and done with. She tuts, as the van goes into a small dip in the road.

    --------------

The van passes the trio, still going rather fast, and as it does so it goes through a dip in the road, which happened to be filled with water. Roger took the worst of it, and Matt got splashed as well.

?Hey, watch where you?re going!? Roger shouts at the van. ?Oh man, look at me, I?m soaked.? Roger and Matt both try to dry themselves, as Mandy stands there grinning.

?That guy was going really fast though. Wonder where he was going in such a hurry?? Matt wondered.

?Well, there?s nothing really on this road, except? the mansion?? Roger says, frowning.

?Mandy, Roger, come on let?s get going. We?re not far now. I got a bad feeling about that van.? Matt says, ignoring his wetness for now as he starts to jog towards the mansion. The two friends follow on behind, Roger pausing occasionally to dry himself.

After about a minute or so, they reach the outside of the mansion. The gates are bolted tight, with heavy chains around the gate, and there?s now a ?Police Line ? Do Not Cross? marked along the fence as well. Sure enough, the van that just rushed past the three was parked in the entrance.

?Hey, there?s that van. Come on, I wanna get an apology from that guy,? says Roger, who boldly marches up to the van. Upon getting there, he finds the van empty. The others catch up. ?Maybe he?s inside??

?Could be,? says Matt. ?Come on.? He points to a fence, and starts to climb over. The others follow, Mandy stepping over next, followed by Roger.

?I am so gonna need a bath after this,? complains Roger.

?Hush,? says Mandy. ?Let?s just find this guy, and get out of here. It?s starting to give me the creeps.?

?That?s the doorway.? Roger points to the door, which was covered with another police line, but has now been cut through. They approach the door. ?You don?t think this guy?s the thief, do you??

?That?s silly, why would he come back? Maybe he?s a reporter or something?? Mandy says.

?I dunno, that means he?s supposed to get his information from the police,? Matt says

?Not all of them do, they?re sneaky guys. Pappa ratzi or something my dad calls them. Anyway, let?s go.? Roger steps inside the mansion two steps, and turns to the others who hadn?t moved from the outside yet. ?Well, are you guys coming??

Matt and Mandy look at each other. Matt shrugs. ?Alright,? says Mandy. They both step in behind Roger, as he leads the exploration of the mansion?

    -------------

    Downstairs, in the basement.

The area of the basement is covered with small jars on shelves. Rows and rows of shelves litter this place, as well as test tube racks full of test tubes, and other laboratory equipment is littered all over the place.

?Fran? Fran?? calls out the male thief.

    ?What is it?? Fran replies.

    ?You found this key yet??

?No, not yet, so stop bugging me, Dave.? She sighs, turning over an upturned plastic beaker. ?Eww?? she put the beaker down.

The two continue their search, and then after a few minutes Dave seems to find an old box, which is locked. ?Hey, Fran.?

    ?Yeah?? she replies.

?Might be in here.? He holds up the box to show her.

?Well, open it and let?s see.?

?I can?t, it?s locked? wait did you hear that??

?What?? she pauses, listening. Sure enough, there was the creaking of floorboard as footsteps pass overhead.

?Shh. It?s the police. We gotta get out of here!? says Dave, whispering.

She nods. ?Let?s sneak away. They?re moving away from the staircase.?

The two move silently up the stairs, Dave bringing along the locked box he?s found.

    -----------------

?So, where are all these gems and gold?? says Mandy, grinning.

?Probably all gone now, but it would have been nice to find some,? says Matt.

?Come on, this has to be bigger than gems or gold or anything like that,? says Roger.

?Yeah, it would be kinda nice, living like a princess with all the money you could want.? Mandy sighs, dreamily.

Roger rolls his eyes. Just then he turns around to catch a glimpse of something. He immediately starts running back the way they just came.

?Roger?? Matt calls after him, following. Mandy tags along, curiously.

Roger finds himself face to face with two adults, both standing side by side near the doorway. They are smiling as the look down at him. ?Heh, it?s just a coupla kids,? says the male one.

?Hey, do you guys drive that van parked out there?? says Roger.

?What of it?? says the woman.

?I want you to apologise for giving me and my friend a drenching, back there.? Roger frowns at them, not wanting to let the matter go. Matt and Mandy catch up to Roger at this point, looking confused at the two strangers.

The man chuckles. ?Listen kid, you?d better leave us alone unless you want another shower.? He lifts up his jacket bottom, revealing a few pokeballs hanging on his belt.

?Come on, let?s get out of here? says the woman. They get ready to turn around, but Roger shouts after them. ?Are you guys the ones who broke in here last night??

They stop walking. The man turns around. ?I told you to leave it. Don?t say I didn?t warn you.? He pulls out a pokeball from his belt, throwing it down. A Staryu pops out from the Pokeball.

Roger smiles to himself. ?Alright, if that?s the way you want it.? Roger picks up a pokeball from his pocket, dropping it down in front of the Staryu. ?Go, Elekid!? The small yellow and black-striped pokemon steps up in front of the Staryu.

The man frowns, but he wasn?t in the mood for this kid?s insolence. ?Staryu. Water Gun! Give that kid a good shower.?

    ?Elekid, give it your Thunderpunch!?

The Staryu opens up and starts to spray its Water Gun, but before it can get far enough to wet Roger again, his Elekid had run up, sparking electricity around it?s tiny fist, as it hits the Staryu. The Water Gun stops firing, and the Staryu gets knocked back and can?t seem to get up.

?Gaa. Staryu, return? The Staryu is called back to his pokeball. ?Alright kid, you got off lucky this time, but that doesn?t mean you?re in the clear. You?d better keep your mouth shut til then, okay?? The woman throws something down on the ground, starting up a smoke cloud, that has Roger, Matt and Mandy, and the Elekid coughing. When the smoke clears, the two adults are gone from view, and the van is just moving away from the entrance. The only thing left in their place, is a small dusty box.

?You think they really were the thieves?? says Mandy.

Elekid hops over to Roger. ?You ok, Elekid??

    ?Elekid!? smiles the Elekid.

?Good job. Come on then.? Roger picks up the pokeball and the Elekid jumps back inside.

?Maybe. Whoever they were, they sure left in a hurry,? says Matt. ?And what?s that?? He bends down to pick up the box.

?A clue!? says Roger. ?Must be what they were after, only they didn?t find it the first time.?

Matt tries to open the box. ?Well, it?s locked.?

Mandy says ?Let?s get out of here.?

?Alright. We can try and open it later, my brother knows a trick you can do with a hair pin to open locks,? says Roger.

Matt tucks the box inside his jacket, and the three climb back over the fence, and head back to town.

    ----------------------

?What do you mean, you lost the box?? says Fran, angry.

?I must have dropped it when we ran off,? says Dave, sighing

?Great, those kids must have it now. So, now what do we do??

?Get it back off them, of course. They must live around here. Let?s go back to town, they?ll show up eventually.?

?Alright, I suppose that?s all we can do right now. ? Fran sighs. ?You know, the boss isn?t gonna be happy with this.?

?So, we get it back before he finds out. It shouldn?t take too long to find three meddlesome kids. And then we can get back our rightful property, I mean, who are they gonna believe, two adults or a group of annoying kids??

She smiles. ?Alright. I knew you had a bit of common sense in there somewhere,? patting Dave on the head.

The van drives back towards town, ahead of the three friends...

    Chapter 3

Fran and Dave, the two thieves from earlier in our story, are standing around the main square in Cinnibar Town. Each of them is wearing clown?s clothing, complete with face paint and each is holding several balloons. Every so often, one of the younger kids in town goes up and gets a free balloon from the clowns, as they wander, seemingly aimlessly around the main square. Each of them however, is looking out for three specific kids.

    -----------------------

Walking back towards town, the three kids in question, Matt, Mandy and Roger, are all heading along the road which leads back to the mansion. Matt is holding in his hands a small dusty wooden box, which was found after the two strangers left.

?I wonder what?s inside it?? says Matt.

?Try shaking it,? suggests Roger. Matt does so, but no sound comes out from the box.

?Hhm. Maybe there?s nothing inside?? says Mandy

?Then why would it be locked? And what were those guys doing with it? There must be something important about the box, or what?s inside it.? Roger sighs. ?Man, I just put these clothes on today as well.?

To recap from the last chapter, Roger got a drenching when a nearby puddle splashed over Roger and Matt. It turned out the van which wet them was driven by the two people who battled against Roger, and who fled, leaving behind the strange box which Matt is now holding.

Mandy looks up at the sky, noticing grey clouds forming above their heads. ?Looks like it might rain soon,? she says

?Hey, how did you manage to avoid getting wet anyway?? Roger asks

?Oh, that?s easy. We just happened to be in her way,? Matt replies, grinning at Roger.

?What can I say, I?m just lucky I guess.? Mandy smiles.

Roger frowns, and sighs. He then smiles to himself ?But did you see how my Elekid battled??

Matt smiles ?Well, it wasn?t hard. An electric type against Water types is usually an easy battle for the Electric type. But yeah, you did well.?

Roger smiles some more. He turns back to Mandy, or at least where Mandy was, to find that it was just Roger and Matt on the road.

    ?Mandy?? calls out Matt

?Ssh!? comes a reply, from the trees and bushes which run all along the side of the road. Roger finds a spot in the bushes which he can step through, and starts to tiptoe along, finding Mandy standing there behind a tree, peeking out at something. She is staring right back at a Ponyta, which happens to be grazing on some grass in the forest.

Roger is about to turn round and yell at Matt, but Mandy elbows him to shut him up ?Shh. Isn?t she pretty?? she whispers. The Ponyta still appears not to have noticed them, chewing away on the grass happily. Matt catches up to them, and smiles to himself as he sees Mandy and the Ponyta. Mandy reaches to a side pocket on her pants, unzips and pulls out a Pokeball, doing this as silently as she can. Matt and Roger watches on carefully, as Mandy releases the Pokeball which lands with a thump right next to the Ponyta. Appearing from the ball is Mandy?s only Pokemon, a Hoothoot. The Ponyta looks up, startled and turns and gets ready to run.

?Oh no, she?s getting away. Hoothook, Peck attack!?

The Hoothoot flies after the Ponyta, only barely able to keep up with the fire horse, as she runs through the forest. The three start to chase after them, not able to run as fast as either Pokemon, but they are able to follow the Ponyta because the bushes that she has passed were smoking from the heat of the fire Pokemon as she ran away. They run for a few more seconds, the two out of sight, before they hear the cry of a Hoothoot in pain. Mandy rushes out to see her Hoothoot being Stomped by the Ponyta, it flies back and she catches her Pokemon. The Hoothoot looks up at Mandy, looking tired. Ponyta looks around for a moment, before taking the time to flee deeper into the forest.

?I?m sorry Hoothoot, I didn?t mean to get you hurt.? Mandy hugs her Pokemon, and the Hoothoot replies with a low comforting ?Hoot.? Matt and Roger catch up.

?Shall we follow it?? asks Roger. He looks down at Mandy holding onto her Pokemon, then looks around for the smouldering trail the Ponyta leaves in its wake.

?No. I couldn?t catch her this time. Maybe next time.? Mandy returns her Hoothoot back to its Pokeball.

?Let?s get back on to the road,? says Matt. The three nods in agreement, and slowly make their way back. The trail left behind by the Ponyta was still smoking, and after a few minutes they were able to get back to the road without too much trouble. There is a sudden wet sensation on the end of Roger?s nose.

?Aw, don?t tell me it?s starting to rain?? he complains.

Sure enough, the rain was starting to come down around them. The three friends started to run back to town.

    ---------------------

After they get back to town, Mandy and the two boys make their separate ways. Mandy heads straight to the Pokemon centre to get her Hoothoot healed, and Matt heads over to Roger?s house to try and open the box. The rain is coming down thick and heavy as they finally at Roger?s, both of them tired from running. Roger presses the door bell, and a few seconds later the door opens.

?Hey, I was wondering where you got to. Oh, hi Matt.? This was Roger?s mother, who answered the door. She smiles at the pair. ?Come in, I?ll just get some towels.? She heads upstairs, as Matt and Roger head inside and up the stairs behind her.

Roger?s mum opens the airing cupboard, handing the two boys some towels.
?Thanks mum,? says Roger, who starts to dry himself down, heading to the bedroom.

?Dinner will be ready soon. Matt, are you staying for tea?? she asks.

?No thanks, I can?t stay long. I?m er, just helping Roger with some homework.? He heads into Roger?s bedroom. Looking around the bedroom, it?s a bit of a mess, with clothes thrown everywhere, and on the walls are various posters of Pokemon, mainly electric types.

?Yeah, that?s right mum. Gotta get this finished for tomorrow.? He follows on behind, shutting the door behind him. ?Phew.?

Roger?s mum smiles at the closed door, before heading downstairs.

?Alright, how do we open this thing?? says Matt, turning the box over for a second before turning it back upright.

?I dunno, my brother said you needed to do something with a hair pin to get the lock open. I?ll have to sneak into my mum?s room, I?ll be just a few secs.? Roger goes back to the door, listens out, then heads outside. A few moments later, he comes back, holding a hair pin.

?Now what?? says Matt. He hands Roger the box.

?Um, let?s see. You gotta fiddle around with the pin inside or something.? He sticks the hair pin inside the lock, started to fiddle around. After a few minutes of fiddling around, he throws the box on the bed.

?I can?t open it.? He frowns. ?Maybe the lock is broken or something.?

?Well, it is an old box.? Matt picks it up, and he tries the lock, but gets no success.

?I?ll ask my brother when I see him next. He?s out of town at the moment.?

    ?When does he get back??

?Erm, next week I think. He?s gone down to Cerulean, something about meeting an old friend.?

?Alright,? says Matt. He stands up. ?Look, I?d better get home, my dad?s gonna worry about me, and its fish night tonight.?

Roger smiles. ?Ok. May as well leave the box here, since my bro?s gonna be the one who?ll be opening it.?

Matt nods. ?Sure. Just don?t lose it, like you lose everything else.?

?What do you mean, like everything else??

?Well, there was the time you lost your Elekid?s pokeball. Remember, you wanted to give him a chance to run around. I don?t know how you managed that, but it took us all day to find it. I wouldn?t mind, but by the end of it my hair was standing on end from all the static!?

?Oh yeah, I?d almost forgot about that.?

?Yeah, on second thoughts, I?d better keep hold of this.?

Roger sighs. ?Yeah, alright, that?s probably a better idea.? Matt picks up the box, tucks it under his jacket.

?See you around.? Matt makes his way downstairs. ?Bye Mrs R.? he waves to Roger?s mum.

?Bye Matt. Thanks for helping Roger.? She smiles.

Matt opens the door, closing it behind him. He covers his head with his jacket, and runs through the rain back to his house.

    ----------------------

    Meanwhile, at the Pokemon Centre?

Mandy steps in the doors of the Cinnibar Island Pokemon Centre. She walks up to the counter, but there?s no-one at the desk. She waits around for a few moments, in an empty waiting room, before Nurse Joy appears from one of the side doors. She is talking with a man in a clown suit.

?There you go, your Pokemon is all better.? Nurse Joy smiles at the clown. She wheels out a trolley that has a Staryu sitting inside.

?Hey, thanks a lot, Nurse Joy. I guess I gotta be more careful who I battle next time.?
The clown picks up a pokeball, and the Staryu disappears inside. He attaches the pokeball to a belt clip on his pants. Mandy watches, as the clown smiles back at her, and then leaves the Pokemon Centre. She frowns at him for a moment.

?Oh, hello Mandy. What can I do for you?? asks Nurse Joy. Mandy turns back to the nurse.

?My poor Hoothoot got injured.? She pulls out his Pokeball, releasing him onto the trolley.

?Oh, I see. Well, let?s see what we can do for her, shall we?? she starts to wheel the trolley with Hoothoot on into the side room. Mandy sits down in the waiting area.

    ---------------------------

Outside the Pokemon Centre, the clown is on the phone to someone?

?Yeah, one of the kids is here.? A pause. ?No, I dunno if they have the box. I?m gonna follow her and see where she lives. If needs be, we can ask her ourselves.? He pauses again, listening. ?Alright. Meet me at the Centre, I?ll be here as long as she is, so be quick.? He presses a button on his mobile, and puts the phone away. Not long after this, the phone rings again. The clown answers it.

?Boss!? He seems surprised. ?Yeah, we went back. No, we er, haven?t found the key yet. We?ll go back tomorrow and get it then. No, we?ve not been slacking off. Yeah? Yeah, alright.? He puts the phone away, sighing with relief. Fran steps up, out of her clown uniform and into some black clothes.

?What?s up with you?? she asks.

?The boss just called. He wants to know where his key is.?

?Fine, we?d better do this quick. She?s inside the Pokemon Centre, yes??

    ?Yeah, she?s still in there.?

?Then we wait, and grab her. I?ll get the van, you stay here.? She heads off around the corner, returning a few minutes later. Dave gets inside the van, shakes his head.

    ?Man, it?s wet out there.?

?Just shut up.? Fran starts drumming her fingers again; she didn?t like waiting for something.

The two thieves wait outside, as an unsuspecting Mandy waits inside?

    Woot, I got two fans!

I doubt this will get as long as your fics oni, but I may just give it a go. Must remember to read Ties at some point, when I've got a whole day free :-)
