name change possible?

Yes, they're possible, but we don't do name changes anymore because of server strains. If you want a new username, you'll have to register a new account.

As stated in the Rules, they don't offer name changes any more due to the excessive strain on the server database, or something like that. The best you could do is register a new account and not sockpuppeting.

And I have to add one more thing. If you want, you can also register a couple "nicknames" into your profiles. So when you click on somebody's name, it will pop up, and before the PMs and check profile stuff it will list what you've set your username to be.

Probably not what you wanted, but it sure is a way to do it.

I noticed the server is slow as it is, we definitely wouldn't want to put more strain on it. I'm going to assume that it slows down because the site has to go back and search/rename all posts associated with the user to the new name and re-alphabatize lists? I know in MMORPGs like WoW they actually charge for name changes. I always wondered why, but now that I ponder on it, it makes more sense. Ah excuse me, I'm going on too much..

Oh yes, said rule post is here: https://www.pokecommunity.com/posts/6446822/ ^^

Pretty much this. Each name change pretty much crashes the database because of all the changes it has to make. It has to update to the new name on every VM, post, PM, blog, comment, etc. that you've ever done. Until we can get around this, name changes aren't coming back. (If it were just a matter of how often we could do them, we'd probably implement a payment-type system or offer them to supporters or something but since the issue is tied to accounts themselves, it's just not possible right now.)

Want a name change?

Become a mod.

The higher staff decided to disreguard the rule about no name changes and while back and grant a couple of mod's a name change. Odd's are if you don't like your name that much, and become a mod, you might be granted a name change.

They were tests by Audy to see how the server reacted, and if I'm not mistaken, he just took volunteers over irc. And 2/3 times the server didn't really react very kindly, from what I understand. They were supposed to be getting their names changed back, but Audy decided it wasn't worth another server crash.

I was the third test which was just before we were to implement name changes again and it failed so horribly that PC was down over an hour and Audy/Steve said the server made such a mess that even with Audy's "streamlines", name changes will not be possible with the current system.

Mr. X, I'm sorry that you are upset that we were used as test subjects. And yes, we were supposed to get our name changes reverted, but Audy/Steve decided against it due to the issues the last one caused.

Now that the question's been answered, I'm going to close this so as not to spin-off into endless discussion about the merits of name changes.
