Hi guys, new to the forum. Loved pokemon blue back on my original game boy but took a break for a while and have re-entered at Pokemon Diamond on DS.

My girlfriend and I (thinking we were clever) now have all the GBA games between us (plus Pearl and Diamond), and my plan is to eventually complete the National Pokedex. But I think I'm stuffed! As far as I can tell, I can't trade between GBA games on our DSs, I don't own an Advance console and I can't get Totodile (or the other two Gold/Silver starters) unless I CATCH all the 200 in Emerald to complete the Hoenn Pokedex...

Am I right on this? I'm wanted Totodile specifically since I first heard of him :(

Luckily, that means you have Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. Therefore, you can choose a different Pokémon in each one. But yes, it's true that you need to have owned 200 Pokémon to get Chikorita, Totodile, or Cyndaquil.

But between those seven games and the GTS, yeah, you can complete the National Pokémon. Then you have to hunt down Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Deoxys, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin (not yet possible), and Arceus (also not yet possible). You'd also need to breed Ditto and Manaphy to get Phione. That means getting Pokémon Ranger and completing it, and using the password for the Manaphy Egg Mission. That also means trading here on the forums.

I'd forgotten about the GTS. I do have a wireless router so I could get the three Johto starters via that and breed them for my girlfriend. It's a shame I won't be able to use them in Emerald though.

I've kinda accepted the fact that I won't get all the special event pokemon but that doesn't bother me that much as I only like a few of them. I actually have an old school Mew on my original Pokemon Blue cartridge but that wouldn't be compatible. I don't think any of the others have been given out in Australia (except for the Gamecube ones).

    Thanks for your help! :)

Catching all is not so difficult in fact, even for events like Mew and the like :)

All you need is patience and something to trade.

So people are kind enough to give you rare pokemon for simple filler. :)

If you have a gamecube you could always transfer them from Colosseum/XD if you have them. If you don't have them, you could rent them. Colosseum is the easiest to get them in (you snag them as part of the story) but you have to breed them due to them being in their evolved forms (no big deal). For XD you have to beat the Mt. Battle 100 trainer challenge to get ONE of the starters. You have to do it AGAIN to get the other ones. The upside to this is they all have their hyperbeam-ish moves (blast burn, hydro cannon, frenzy plant).
This will also enable them to be used in emerald as well.
