    Good afternoon and TGIF y'all!
I haven't posted on a proper forum in a minute, but I do know from when I used to be active that necroposting was generally not permitted.
If that is also the case here, what is the cutoff time for a thread to be considered "dead"?

A month is the cut-off time. So if a thread hasn't been posted in over a month, it's considered dead. But the rules around that are rather lax. It's not like you'll get in trouble for posting in a thread a few months old. I've seen threads come back from a few years ago. But if a thread is old enough for retirement, it's best to make a new one.

The month cut-off has some exceptions, though. Like in the Fanfiction and Writing subforum, I remember that the thread's original poster could post whenever, even if over a month. But any other member couldn't post if the thread was a month old.

Got it! So essentially a month, but also use your judgment in certain cases.
Though, it would absolutely be wild if I posted a new chapter for a fanfic I wrote then abandoned in 2008.
A fun point: we haven't had a global rule specifically barring it for years. There's a warning discouraging it because the content may no longer be relevant/pertinent, but that's it. Certain sections may implement a rule with a timeframe, so best practices is to check it for the forum you're posting in.
