Can anyone give me some general advice on the tcg? I mean they still sell the black and white cards but they also sell the x and y cards. Just need help and advice in general really, thanks in advance.

Well I'd obviously like to start playing amongst other friends who are also looking to get into the game but obviously if it became a really interesting hobby then official tournaments sound great!

Idk imo if you want to start play with friends first. You can pick up a starter deck from the XY sets. The fairy one is a pretty good one imo, since Fairy pokemon seem to be pretty great. Then buy an Elite Trainer Box for dice, a box, like 8 booster packs and 4 of each energy. Customize your deck out of those 8 packs and play around with it. If you want to be competitive. You probably need to buy a ton of singles from B/W sets for all the staples.

I'd look for one of the Trainer Kits (the two you're most likely to find are the Black & White and XY ones, which are the two most recent ones) and any theme decks. Set doesn't matter as long as it's fairly recent. The initial idea is to learn to play before actually diving in. I'd link to the tutorials on the official site, but they feel quite condescending at times. Actually, have the link anyway - couldn't hurt to have more learning resources: www.pokemontcg.com/tutorials

Or just do what profen says. Either or.

Come back if any questions come up or if you want more detail on competitive play!

So are the black and white cards still in use? Because I see them on sale but there's obviously the x and y ones out now
