4th Gen Need Help On Starter

So far i have on my team:

Eevee - Espeon
Houndour
Dratini

i just dont know what starter to chose. I mean i want to get a water/ice type later like cloyster or dewgong, i dont know if totadile can learn ice moves (for the dragon champion). I already have a fire pokemon, i just dont know is the grass pokemon useful in this generation. I completely cant remember Gold and Silver,wheter i need a grass or not. But im open to either so which would be better for me.

well for me, I would choose Chikorita because it's more of a challenge and you can get a variety of good water/ice pokemon later like train up a magikarp! If you choose someone else (like Totodile) then you can't really find and good grass pokemon worth training (maybe Sunflora) so your best bet is to pick Chikorita also cause it's a great support pokemon!

Yes, Totodile will eventually learn ice fang (his evolutions too). While Chikorita might be a bigger challenge, I see that two of your pokemon are special attackers which is what a meganium usually specializes in. A feraligatr, on the other hand, is a physical attacker and can utilize waterfall (the HM) which is actually a great move for him.

As for useful grass types, there are plenty. You can acquire a Bellosom, vileplume, or victreebel. Sunfloras are okay as well. I might be missing others but you get the general idea.

I'm still confused, i understand on the part that 2 of my pokemon so far already are special attackers or will be. Put usually i fill in the gaps with the extra 2-3 pokemon i have to make 6. The starter on gold is getting me i usually go for the fire types so im taking a chance on the other 2.

I alwas think of the gym leaders when choosing. when i was young i would experiment, but i mostly picked Totodile, cause it could learn good tm's, and i like to stock up for the right time, but i now use the Cyndareep method. Cyndaquil and evolutions can take out gym leaders like:
Bugsy
Jasmine
Pryce
Erika
(Probably more)

Mareep and its forms can beat:
Falkner
Misty
(Probably more can't think of all of them)

and with Houndour on support fire if the weak to fire leaders kill Cyndaquil,
Espeon can take out morty, and Dragonite learns pretty good moves for battles, your pretty much covered.

try to get maybe a good psychic type to deal with some other gym leaders, and a good Ice type thrown in and it will be a Gym destroying team becase ice beats dragon. probably look for one in icy path to get one on a good level to train. the red gyarados (or any gyarados) that has ice moves can work against clair because its also dragon type. oh and mareep can help with the water/dragon types if you need it.

Espeon IS a good psychic type for his team.

Base stat for spc attk = 130 =]

If you get cyndaquil, then houndor is kinda useless except for his dark type.

Im not going for the fire starter, and my dratini knows thunderbolt, ice beam, surf, and another one. Hondour knows, Flamethrower, FireBlast, Ember, Bite. Eevee knows Dig, Iron Tail, Wish, and Bite. I think totadile would be good, but then me going to get a water/ice pokemon would just replace him?

Okay, now here's the dilemma. You only get access to one Water/Ice type in Johto and that is Dewgong (unless you trade then obviously there's others).

So you have to decide on either Totodile or Seel...

Totodile Takes The Win! Cause i just saw his move sheet on serebii and it out ways chikis on the one thing i need. Plus i saw he can learn more than one ice move

Feraligatr is quite versatile and I'm sure he'll be a powerhouse on your team.

Like others have Said, Feraligator is the best, Hes the only starter on here I've leveled past 50 before ditching, Moves were Dragon Claw,Crunch,Waterfall,Ice Fang.
