    Pfft...that's only half a moveset. T_T

Standard forry is something like so:

    Forretress @ Leftovers/Shed Shell
    Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
    Gyro Ball
    Earthquake/Spikes/Reflect/Light Screen
    Rapid Spin/Spikes/Reflect/Light Screen
    Rest/Explosion

EVs basically consist of a crapload of HP and Defense, possibly with some obscure magical number in Attack to KO something or the other. Smogon says 252 HP / 92 Def / 164 Atk, but you can experiment with it. If you run Light Screen, putting that Atk into SDef will reduce Magnezone's attacks to a three-hit KO unless it has Hidden Power [Fire]. Leftovers are the preferred item, but if you're Magnet Pull paranoid (and don't have the confidence in your ability to predict them and nail them on the switch with quake) then Shed Shell is also an option. Relaxed over Impish to maximize Gyro Ball's impact. :3

So Gyro Ball is a staple. Can it be chosen over EQ?

Yep. Gyro Ball is your number one bapping move because of its insanely powered STAB action whereas Earthquake is there to hit some very specific targets (Namely, Magnezone, although repeated quakes may sting Heatran and some others as well). If we're dealing with a slow-moving Steel type with a usable Attack stat it will usually be running Gyro Ball simply because it hurts so many targets so much.

I just don't like Steel for an attacking move. Could it hurt Electrivire, and the like?

Electivire would be one of those very specific targets I mentioned. The thing is: Forry isn't really meant to take on Electivire anyway. (And in all honesty, there's only so much a non-Fire Punch Electivire could do against Forry too) With only one slot devoted to attacking, you should generally go for what deals the most damage to the widest assortment of pokémon; and seeing the multitude of fast, non-resistant sweepers around (Azelf, Garchomp, Yanmega etc.), not to mention considering STAB, that's Gyro Ball. Quake is only preferable against a handful of others, and unless you specifically want to counter Magnezone and (lul) Probopass then there's really not much point with that move anymore since the others that quake is preferable against aren't the sort of thing you should be pitting Forretress against in the first place. It was standard in advance since it used to be the best Forry got, but times have changed. You can feel as uncomfortable about it as you want, but quake isn't exactly risk-free either (Gengar, Plotelf, Specsmence/DDMence (or -nite) and every other levitating or flying opponent say 'hiiii').

I see. So you're saying that since he's a wall, he should stick to that. Gyro Ball is for retaliation purposes. Or a means to defend itself. Gotcha. And what does "lul" mean?

I wouldn't blow up Forretress personally.

    Forretress @ Leftovers
    Trait: Sturdy
    EV: 212 HP / 46 Att / 252 Def
    Nature: Impish/Relaxed
    Rapid Spin
    Spikes/Counter
    Gyro Ball/Earthquake/Rock Slide/Zap Cannon
    Gyro Ball/Earthquake/Rock Slide/Zap Cannon

Zap Cannon is novelty at best, but the paralysis is nice if you can hit. Countertress can be a nice surprise for high Att things like Rhyperior who think they can sweep you.

    Forretress @ Leftovers
    Nature: Relaxed
    EV: 252 HP / 52 Att / 172 Def / 34 SpDef
    Trait: Sturdy
    Rapid Spin
    Counter/Spikes
    Light Screen
    Gyro Ball/Zap Cannon/Earthquake/Rock Slide

Dual-tanking version of Forretress. Not as great this, but Counter can still be a nice surprise.
