    This is probably one of the best shounen anime I've ever watched. It starts off fun and mild, even kiddish. But then it turns into an emotional LANDSLIDE in the last 10 episodes. I can say that I really loved those episodes. The characters really collapsed one by one (both physically and emotionally!) and an incredible climax seemed imminent.

    However, the creators ran out of money and didn't provide a solid, satisfactory ending. The last two episodes are like a radio drama with additional animation. Sure, those two episodes are intensely psychological and make you think about human philosophy, but Evangelion is NOT just a psychological thriller! It's many things: a comedy, an action series and a science fiction. Those three genres, in addition to the psychological thriller aspect, are what made Evangelion special and popular. The ending simply wasn't solid enough. You can say it was very solid by resolving Shinji's inner turmoil, but what about the rest of the characters? Asuka was left in misery at the end and her problems were never resolved (in the show). Gendou simply wasn't finished with his business apparently. He was still on "something". Now before you bring up the movie END OF EVANGELION, I'd like to note that I'm talking about the show, that airs on TV. I'd rather they released the last two episodes as and OVA and kept episode 24 (the Kaworu one) as the last, or even better, extended Kaworu's storyline EXTENSIVELY over several episodes. He was a very important character, and he gets about, like, 11 minutes of screen time.

    Now on to END OF EVANGELION the movie.

    I'd honestly say that the actual movie's storyline and structure is very good. The animation is incredible. But I'd have to say that it simply goes OOC (out of character). Evangelion is a shounen anime, for older teenage boys. The ending movie is blood-soaked, overly violent, and sickenly disturbing, far worse than anything that can be classified "shounen". In fact, it was rated NC-17 in America, which is strange to me, because it seemed to deserve a mild to medium R rating, and there are much worse movies that have been rated R. The character turmoils are all resolved. But then it goes all APOCALYPSE YEAH two-thirds through which really disappoints me as it seems a pretty easy way to "solve" the broken links simply by liquidating every human on the planet.

    Now don't flame me for what I said about the movie. I DID say it was a good movie. But it simply wasn't a good Evangelion movie, in respect of the TV show. It tried very well to interconnect flawlessly with the original series but overdid itself in the process.

    If Evangelion the SERIES had a climatic, at least solid end, it might be my all time favorite anime.

    I give it 8 out of 10. Amazing concept. Captivating characters. Character-driven show. But an incomplete end.

    I agree on EVERY aspect you pointed out. I was a really dedicated fan when I was like 10 (I shouldn't of been watching it but hey, w/e, I turned out fine xP). I watched most of the beginning of the series, which like you said, was pretty funny and light hearted, but I lost interest when it neared the end, maybe because I wasn't very smart at the time and couldn't understand what was going on. ;;

    I did watch the movie, the End of Evangelion, which I thought was fantastic! It really tugged at my emotions and I felt myself cringing at everything that was happening, but I couldn't help but keep watching. But yeah, due to budgetary restraints, they kind of just crapped out the ending which was a little disappointing, but it didn't take too much away from the movie itself.

    8/10 for me too. C:

    Evangelion is the most overated crap I've ever watched, yeah It had a few cool scenes but the characters were so typical of anime and the ending is complete rubbish.

    It's not unwatchable but I wouldn't watch it again, and it doesn't deserve the hype.

    I could probably stretch to a 6/10.

    Totally agreed. It's an okay show with some good points about reality and things of that nature, but otherwise it's just an overrated show that started the horrible genre of philosophical dealings mixed with giant robots that so very rarely is done right.

    7/10 for being an okay show with some nice musings.

    Ah, the intro has the most kickass song, easily the best thing.
