Net Neutrality

So wait, you're saying that ALL websites except big ones like youtube, myspace, yahoo, etc. will be shut down? I don't understand why they would do that though, it's pointless really. I mean, they'd have to censor stuff from youtube and yahoo and stuff anyways too...I guess that would make proxies useless though..since they could just block all those too, right? I'm not sure though I mean..I get emailed a new proxy almost everyday..though I guess it would make sense since it's the isp blocking the sites and not something like websense..right? *confuzzled* Gah, I hate being confuzzled..*death*

Ah, but ya see, they do have a point. They just wanna make it harder for the little people like us. That's what those fatcats do in their freetime :|

it makes no sense at all for all the websites except the big ones will get shut down. because almost no one makes their regular internet viewing on the large sites. like of course, im listening to youtube now, but im on PC all the time. all of the internet providers would be bankrupt if they shut down the little websites, or websites that aren't doing as well as MSN, Yahoo, Google, Youtube, Myspace, etc.
basically, people's pleasure internet viewing (get ur mind out of the gutter, im not talking about porn) takes place on smaller, lesser known websites, ie, this one. if peoples internet access was limited to the large websites, there would be such a decrese in customers it wouldn't even be funny.
the internet is the one place we can speak our mind. most people, in public, will assume the "politically correct" position. but on the internet, where people can remain anonymous, people can say what they really want to say. censoring the internet would be basically making the entire population be "politically correct" cuz we would be forced to say what everyone wants us to say.
screw the government and the corporations for trying to take over everything in our lives.
@ arashi no aisu: you are absolutely right. If democrats were in charge right now, things would be much different.
but that's just my two cents. XD

It isn't that websites would be shut down, they just wouldn't be accessible without a certain 'package.'

And it would be a problem for the ISPs to all agree to do this, and if there was just one ISP that offered every website as standard, then that ISP would get virtually all of the business. There would have to be a contract they sign together. What would you do? Would you sign the contract and make a lot of money, or would you hold off and keep making the money you have now?

I just hope one ISP chooses the latter, then this won't be a problem.

I agree! All we need is one decent ISP and the issue is resolved.

And by the way, realistic predictions of how Net Neutrality will be dissolved forecasts that by the end of it, only the major companies that can afford to pay a lot of money to the ISPs will be accessible. The "packaged" tier system will be the nail in the coffin, and it will hark the end of the glory days of the internet. We can't let this happen!

What if all the isp's agree and sign a contract, then sometime down the road there is a new isp that allows access to all websites? What then? And what would happen to parts of the other bigger sites? What about google's search engine? What sites would be left for it to be searching? The same with yahoo and I think myspace...*dies*

Man, I really think that we should ship all of those rich elite upper class snobs to guantanomo. Their constant desire to own everything is a bigger threat to American freedom than Al Qaeda ever was or ever will be.

That's why I'm starting to think this won't happen. All we need is just a single ISP who offers all websites, and the other ISPs are screwed. I think an intelligent business person would see this, so the ISPs probably won't agree to this contract.

And besides, there is bound to be one CEO who has an inkling of human decency left in him. We can't just assume they are all evil corporate ********.

To hell with lawsuit! If it takes a bloody revolution to keep them out of our freedom, then do be it D:<

All I can say is if they take my porn, expect a fight from me. Or my illegal downloads.
