    Hi everyone,

Used to play magic when I was younger, however the Internet was not as good as it now is with regards to learning, and I had to rely on a friends confusing instructions which drew me away from card games.

Now I'm a dad and my eldest is 10 and has shown a huge interest in Pokemon cards, leading me to jump on in with him so he always has someone to practice and help him to learn, ready for some Pokemon leagues at our local shopping centre.

We are both getting quite a good collection, and the learning on my side is really coming along, as is my own collection 😀.

Well anyhow, enough of the introduction.

As well as playing the physical card game, we are both enjoying the online version to, however I have come across something that I don't seem to be able to find the answer to online, and that is, do the booster pack code cards, generate the exact same cards online as you actually get in the packets?

I know the theme deck burning spark from the break through expansion is exactly the same as the physical cards, but the booster packs seem to contain the majority only plus quite a few that are different, for example one booster code gave me a mewtwo EX card when I know for certain that I don't have the physical card for that one yet, however a break card that I got a physical card, did appear through the code?

Are the codes designed to match the contents of the packet or is it completely random and just coincidence that some of them match?

    Thanks for reading,

I look forward to your replies

    ??????????????????

Okay, so the simple answer to this is "No, they do not." The code cards are generated completely separately from the packs they're in. When the code cards are printed, the contents of the physical packs they are going into is not yet known.

However, there is a very small chance they actually do generate the exact same pack contents since the packs you get in the TCGO are randomized, probably based on the pull rates that The Pokemon Company assigns to each set. So, while they are randomized, it is technically possible to get digital pack contents that match the contents of the pack you pulled it from.

Theme decks, however, have the exact same contents physically as they do digitally.
