We have introduced the ContentLink (in-text ads) method, allowing sponsors to help offset the costs of operating the PokeCommunity (eg. server and bandwidth costs). However, we do care about your experience and for those members that don't wish to see our sponsor's in-text link ads, or are complaining about them, there is a feature that enables you to turn these sponsor ads off. Click the[S-HIGHLIGHT] ? [/S-HIGHLIGHT]located on the upper right section on the ad layer, there will be options that will allow any user to turn our in-text ads off.

We are still fine tuning this new sponsorship method, so it may or may not work perfectly, but rest assured that we are optimizing it to work well and be unobtrusive for you, the PC member.

    What is a ContentLink?
A ContentLink is a contextually relevant keyword that is discovered in real-time on a web page and is automatically linked to the most relevant ad from among thousands of sponsors.

ContentLinks appear as distinctive links marked by a double-underline. When you mouse-over a double-underlined link, the ContentLink layer with relevant advertising information is displayed. Upon clicking the ContentLink layer, the user is directed to the advertiser's web site.

I see... So this new method earns you more money then the old one?

Thank you for posting this Rukario. (b' ')b

I was able to quickly and easily disable them ^-^

Well, depending on how much it actually helps you guys, I'll probably be turning mine off.

I applaud your decision to allow users to turn them off. Amazing choice and one that is greatly appreciated =]

Its in addition to the current one.
Once fine tuned there should only be 3 or 4 per page (posts/threads) and totally relevant to our content. (i.e. stuff you all are interested in)

    Eh, fine with me.
It's a bit annoying at times, in a distracting sort of way, but it helps pay the bills (so to speak xD) sooo that's good. (b ' ')b

For now I believe most of the members will prefer turning them off, how will we be able to enable them once they've been tuned and all?

I cant really tell because I cant see any advertisement at all..

well the thing is, they do nothing unless you hover over the double underlined links.. so aside from those words being blue and underlined, its read/post/whatever as usual.

If they end up annoying more people then helping PC, we'll find something else to help our targeted sponsors support us.

I think most people will probably just disable them due to the little pop-up becoming slightly annoying, but hey, whatever helps keep the community going, right?

A note: We're attempting to set them, for now, to non-logged in / guest / visitor users only.. stand by for more..

Phew.I don't really like the pop-up text ads. They're kinda annoying.

I have absolutely no issue showing them only for guests but if that's a no-go... I think they should be hidden for anyone who's donated money since shouldn't part of the perk be seeing no ads? :(

Um, just wanted to mention, I haven't turned them off, and don't have an addblocker, yet I still can't see them. Not that I was to, just figured I'd mention it.

Although they probably won't impact me, because I'm tier 5 and have ABP, I'm going to voice my opinion. I don't like these kind of ads, I never did, because it slows scrolling down. (you sometimes have to navigate a veritable minefield of these things).

I'd prefer to keep advertisements completely out of the postbit in general, the pages load cleaner that way, and besides, pages load slowly enough without having to render extra advertisements too.

However, if we keep it limited to guests, and non logged in users, that'd be fine.

Thank you! Those ads are bit annoying. I thought at first there was something wrong with my computer. x.x And I was thinking oh...those ads like the ones in Anime News Network. They got those, and boy they are annoying. But it does help to cover the cost of the servers and stuff.

But you will still take donations?

He says it's an additional way of paying for the server that works alongside other methods, so I'm going to say yes, since it's a very good source that will probably earn more money than these ads. I can't imagine a lot of people will leave them on.

I've haven't seen them yet. Is it automatically disabled or something? O.o
    It's disabled for supporters. d(''d)

Currently supporters, logged in members, and staff (except for me :( ) are not suppose to see them.

Let me know if its otherwise. Also remember, it will take a few weeks for them to settle down and be optimized for us, so keep that in mind too.

The main revenue generating sponsor placements (currently top and bottom of page) as well as the occasional thread list (text/link) or showpost targeted spots (banner, not done one yet but they are offered to our sponsors) will remain as normal.
Of course, so will the donations. More donations = less invasive sponsor ads.
