Hi, I'm new to the forum and also the whole competitive battling community. (*typo in title, I know)
I've put together what I thought would be a good team but I'm not sure which to send out first or if it's even good enough for competetive play. I'm also uncertain of items.
Please suggest any changes you would feel necessary; to anything, including the pokemon themselves - and be as critical as you want, I won't get offended. So here it is:

    Lucario @ ?????? I need a non-choice item if swords dance is on don't I?
    Extreme Speed
    Swords Dance
    Close Combat
    Stone Edge

    Jolly (+Spd -SpAtk)
    4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd

    Dusknoir @ Leftovers
    Pain Split
    Earthquake
    Will-o-wisp
    Fire Punch

    Impish (+Def -SpAtk)
    252 HP / 100 ATK / 104 Def / 52 SpDef

    Gengar @ Choice Specs
    Hypnosis
    Shadow Ball
    Focus Blast
    Thunderbolt

    Timid (+Spd -Atk)
    4 HP / 252 SpAtk / 252 Spd

    Umbreon @ Leftovers
    Wish
    Mean Look
    Baton Pass
    Taunt

    Careful (+SpDef -Atk)
    252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpDef

    Porygon-Z @ Life Orb
    Tri-attack
    Ice Beam
    Dark Pulse
    Nasty Plot

    Timid (+Spd - Atk)
    4 HP / 252 SpAtk / 252 Spd

    Vaporeon @ Leftovers
    Baton Pass
    Surf
    Substitute
    Wish

    Bold (+Def -Atk)
    252 HP / ?

I tried to steer clear of ubers and ones I've heard are the OU of the OU like Blissy, Milotic, Metagross, Swampert, big dragons etc. to make it a bit more interesting, but I understand that I might have to accept that some of them might need to replace a few team members.
Thanks for any suggestions and comments.

Protect >> Baton Pass on Wish Pass Vappy unless your passing subs aswell. The wish still activates and doesnt need passing.

You can go with this if you want.

Baton Pass Vappy is great and passes 101 hp subs good to pass these to sweepers to set up behind.

    Vaporeon@Leftovers
    Bold Nature
    188 HP / 252 DEF / 70 SP.DEF
    - Surf
    - Baton Pass
    - Substitute
    - Wish

Thanks, I'll change the Vaporeon for definite (sorry I butchered it xP) and I like Dark Azelf's suggestion of passing the sub to allow a sweeper to set up.

So how about I switch Alakazam for a Porygon-Z with nasty plot and/or agility to take better advantage of the Vaporeon?

Then Gengar's moveset might have to shuffle to make room for energy ball: Shadow ball, sludge bomb, energy ball, thunder bolt?

The trick moveset for Alakazam also looks interesting, but I think I'd need a bit of practice to use it effectively (I had to look trick up to see what it did - told you i was a noob :P - but I can see how it could be used).
Question: if something gets KO'd or you switch, then you use trick with a choice item, will the last move of the opponent be locked, or the next one it uses?

The first move it uses after aquiring Specs will be the one it's locked into, always.

Porygon-Z is a good replacement for Zam, who is generally reserved for more experienced players as it's hard to pull off. Post EVs too.

    *Updated:
    EVs now added
    Alakazam switched for Porygon-Z
    Gengar's Moveset Changed

Thanks for all the help - but I now I realise I have no grass or electric attack, so the team seems venerable to the likes of Swampert and bulky waters. I could change Gengar's moveset again. Maybe sludge bomb for energy ball?

*Eyes well up at possibility of losing sludge bomb*

Oh, and more questions: (keep in mind I am very new and noobish) With choice items locking you into one move, does this last for as long as that pokemon stays out, or does it 'refresh' after each kill, erm, I mean KO?
In competetive battling do you still get the option 'So-and-So is about to send out Blah, will you switch?' And would 'Blah' be the thing's nickname if it has one, because that would seem very pointless if it was?

This team gets ripped apart by Gengar, put in something to help out Dusknoir. you seem to have a lot of mixed walls, but those can't switch into Specsmence Draco Meteor and CBtar's Stone Edge like pure special or physical walls can. I suggest uyou replace Umbreon and help out Noir in dealing with Gar and all special sweepers that can shadow ball or dark pulse basically...

You don't get the option to switch after a kill, and Choice items lock you into a move until you switch.

Replace Sludge Bomb with Energy Ball or HP Ice.

You can only switch moves when you switch out your Pokemon. Unfortunately, its not refreshed after each KO =[

In competetive battling do you still get the option 'So-and-So is about to send out Blah, will you switch?' No; you have to use up a turn to switch it out.And would 'Blah' be the thing's nickname if it has one, because that would seem very pointless if it was?

Didn't really get what you were trying to ask there at the end...

A noob who accept critism?!?!?!?! I like you already. Also Porygon-Z, make sure he has Adaptability, Tri Attack and Adpatability together wreak havoc on so many teams. And you seem to be lacking items too. Lucario usually has a Choice Scarf, Dusknoir usually has lefotvers, Gengar usually has a Life Orb, Focus Sash, Chocie Specs, or Choice Scarf, Umbreon has Leftovers, Porygon-Z, give it Choice Specs, it can OHKO most pokes with Tri Attack, Adaptability, and Choice Specs, and Vaporeon egst Leftovers.
