New to PC. N00b ROM Hacker. [Q's need A's]

Hey. I'm new to PokéCommunity. I like it here. I like the variety of the themes. I like everything so far.

Anyway, I'm new to Rom Hacking. I need some questions answered.

Basically, I'm using FireRed as a base for my hack, PokéMyths.
PokéMyths is basically the original game, except you get to do all the fun rumors that float around.

What kind of rumors?

The S.S Anne Truck to get Mew.
Bill's Secret Garden.
And whatever other things people can come up with, hence the name PokéMyths

Let me explain the situation.
I want to make it so when the player presses 'A' at the S.S Anne Truck, a battle will happen with Mew.
Could anyone please explain to me how this would work?

Thanks. However, I don't think my question is as simple as it seems to be. The simple questions are supposed to range from

• How do I insert or edit a sprite?
• How do I change game text?
