    Hey guys,

Well I picked up Soulsilver and platinum and I am currently going to start Platinum first, although "SS" technically comes first in the series...anyways, are there any faqs that might be helpful for a beginner or noob. :) I am looking for some that I might be able to download or print out. Plus I thought about the "Official" guide but is it worth the $20?? Or even the 2 volume SoulSilver/HeartGold guides are they worth it? Thanks guys...also I know "fire" is considered the easy route, so I am thinking of going with water or grass. :) I know, but I enjoy difficulty.

I'm planning on gettin Platinum too, this place is great for answering our questions, if I can help lemme kno.

There's a ton of walkthroughs on GameFAQs for all of the versions you're talking about, which might be better than buying the guidebook. I have the D/P walkthrough books and they were kind of helpful, but if you're familiar with any Pokémon game then it's not really necessary.

Fire isn't really the easiest route to go down, in my opinion, since the first gym is Rock-based. If you end up getting the right type before you get to the first gym though, then it doesn't really matter what you choose.

Yeah, honestly, if you pick up a Geodude at the first place he's available (check serebii.net for locations) you can pretty much own the first three gyms with him. So it doesn't matter which starter you pick, because you can easily get more team members by then. As for strategy guides, I would go to https://www.gamefaqs.com/ds/960099-pokemon-heartgold/faqs/57737 for a downloadable walkthrough, and serebii for everything else. I swear, if serebii doesn't have something, I will eat my shoe.

You can also try www.serebii.net (Is it okays to post external links?) for a lot of informations too.
I don't even need any guide books nowadays :)

If you're new at Pokemon, the guide books aren't probably something to invest in. After the conversion from USD, they're quite expensive over here too. But the Platinum guide had way more information in it than any other guide I've ever bought so that is quite useful.
And I agree with Shookie, Fire isn't the easiest type to choose. Personally I see it as more popular than the others but that's probably not true. :)
