New to pokemon

Hi there Im new to pokemon and PC I have ideas that would be interesting from my friends IRL that tell me how to play but i came here in hopes they would help me even more. Let me know if you think maybe you could help me out? I currently have 4 badges.

It would help if we knew what game or gen you were playing. Gen3? FireRed and such? Gen4 with Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Heartgold or Soulsilver? Or Gen5 with Black&White? Then you could head on over to the related forums and ask your questions. You'd be sure to get answers/help there.
