    Hey all, I'm new here. I don't really know much about what makes good move sets, so I'd love to get some feedback about how I can improve my team. I have 2 teams, but this is the one I'm working on leveling right now:

    - TEAM 1 -

    Kyogre @ NeverMeltIce
    Trait: Drizzle
    Nature: Lax
    - Ice Beam
    - Waterspout
    - Calm Mind
    - Rest

    Cresselia @ Mind Plate
    Trait: Levitate
    Nature: Naive
    - Moonlight
    - Lunar Dance
    - Psychic
    - Aurora Beam (Maybe Shadowball or Reflect instead?)

    Milotic @ Shell Bell
    Trait: Marvel Scale
    Nature: Relaxed
    - Aqua Ring
    - Protect
    - Facade
    - Dragon Pulse

    Leafeon @ Miracle Seed
    Trait: Leaf Guard
    Nature: Mild
    - Synthesis
    - Grass Whistle
    - Sunny Day
    - Leaf Blade

    Hippowdon @ Soft Sand
    Trait: Sand Stream
    Nature: Bold
    - Earthquake
    - Crunch (Maybe switch for Giga Impact?)
    - Yawn
    - Sand Tomb

    Ninetails @ ??
    Trait: Flash Fire
    Nature: Naive
    - Confuse Ray
    - Sunny Day (Can't decide between this and Will-o-wisp)
    - Flamethrower (Would Overheat or Fireblast be better?)
    - Solarbeam (good vs ground/water was the idea here)

    *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
    Okay, first off, don't use ubers like Kyogre on a non-uber team. They are too powerful for standard play and people won't like you when you use it.

    Besides, you already have a Water type on your team. Find another Pokemon.

    Also, Kyogre is bad for your team since it gives you multiple weather effects. You already have Sandstream and Sunny Day, and Kyogre gives you Drizzle. Having more than one weather effect on your team is bad since it will mess your team up.

    Cresselia @ Leftovers
    Trait: Levitate
    Nature: Naive
    - Moonlight
    - Ice Beam
    - Psychic
    - Reflect

    Milotic @ Leftovers
    Trait: Marvel Scale
    Nature: Relaxed
    - Surf
    - Ice Beam
    - Recover/Rest
    - Hypnosis/Sleep Talk

    Those are all terrible moves. Why doesn't it have Surf?

    Never put physical attacks like Facade on Milotic. Milotic's Attack is bad.
    Also Dragon Pulse is useless on Milotic since Ice Beam is stronger, covers more types, and deals more damage against most dragons (who have a 4x weakness to Ice, but only a 2x weakness to Dragon).

    Aqua Ring is a waste and won't do much healing compared to Recover or Rest.

    Also, never use Shell Bell. Always use Leftovers if you want an item that provides healing.

    Leafeon @ Leftovers
    Trait: Leaf Guard
    Nature: Mild
    - Synthesis
    - Swords Dance
    - Baton Pass

    - Leaf Blade

    The sun doesn't really help Leafeon as much as you think.

    Hippowdon @ Leftovers
    Trait: Sand Stream
    Nature: Bold
    - Earthquake
    - Stone Edge
    - Slack Off
    - Stealth Rock

    Ninetails @ Leftovers
    Trait: Flash Fire
    Nature: Naive
    - Nasty Plot
    - Will-o-wisp
    - Flamethrower
    - Energy Ball

    Don't use Sunny Day on Ninetales. It's too frail to use it.

    Energy Ball covers Water/Ground and you won't need to charge up.

    AragornBird's sets are spot on as usual.

    As for general team help - right now your team is making eyes at Gyarados and unfortunately for you he isn't very gentle.

    You desperately need an (Electric) attack to fend off Gyarados when he won't take no for an answer and also need a physical (Fight) attack to rid you of the STD known as Blissey.

    If you want to keep the team as is you can add Electivire in the slot previously occupied by Kyogre. That will net you a physical (Fight) attack as well as STAB *Thunderbolt killing two birds with one stone. He will have trouble switching into Gyarados though because by then he will have a *Dragon Dance in his pants and be ready to *Earthquake you out of there.

    I would prolly switch Ninetails for Infernape to keep the same type of moveset...

    Infernape w/Leftovers or Life Orb
    'Blaze' : Raises (Fire) attacks when HP is low.
    <Hasty : +Spd / -Def>
    * Close Combat
    * Flamethrower
    * Grass Knot
    * Nasty Plot

    Total MetaBreaker.

    ~STAB Physical (Fight) attacks for Special Walls.

    ~STAB Special (Fire) attacks for pesky (Steel) types who just won't die.

    ~Increasing (Grass) attack that should be named *Death to Bulky Waters.

    ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

    Then you can pick whichever poke you'd like for your (Electrical) needs. I'd think double status Gengar would make a good lead and be pretty nifty at giving you some good coverage with (Ghost) + (Electric) attacks. It would also add some much needed speed to a pretty defensive slow team.

    I should also compliment you on choosing some defensive pokes because that is the one thing i think peeps overlook the most.

    First off, thanks AragornBird and White Lotus for taking the time to help me!

    Wow, thanks for all the input guys. I really appreciate it! I get alot of what you're saying. I'll box Kyogre, I didn't realize he was that good.

    Which pokemon are too strong and are considered cheating or being cheap? All legendaries? If someone could link me a list that would be awesome.

    As for a Kyogre replacement, here are the other pokemon I have right now:

    Rapidash, Mismagius, Luxray, Palkia (too strong right?), Latias, Metagross, Alakazam, Lucario, Salamence, Rotom (seems sorta weak), Azelf, Giratina (too strong I think)

    Could Mismagius or Rotom fill that ghost role you were talking about White Lotus, or is a Gengar necessary for that position? Here is Mismagius' stats fyi:

    Mismagius @ ??
    Trait: Levitate
    Nature: Lonely
    - Shadow Ball
    - Confuse Ray
    - Pain Split
    - Perish Song

    Also, would Salamence or Lucario work for the same role as Infernape? Something like this:

    Lucario @ ??
    Trait: Steadfast
    Nature: Hasty
    - Close Combat
    - Dragon Pulse / Dark Pulse
    - ??
    - ??

    Kinda stumped what else I would give him. He can't learn Grass Knot. =\

    Thanks again for all the feedback guys. I'm learning alot. Please keep it up!

    -Silver

    P.S. What is a 'double status' Gengar and a 'MetaBreaker'?

    Hey ~ Thanks for the dap.

    It's nice when the help is appreciated.

    ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

    The reason i choose Gengar was because he could switch into Gyarados and maybe be fast enough to get a *Thunderbolt off even after a *Dragon Dance.

    If you want to go with Mismagius than i'd suggest a moveset like this...

    Mismagius w/Leftovers
    'Levitate' : Immune to (Ground) attacks.
    <Timid : +Spd / -Att>
    * Shadow Ball
    * Thunderbolt
    * Calm Mind
    * Will-O-Wisp / * Pain Split

    (*Will-O-Wisp will help you get off the necessary *Calm Minds to sweep / While *Pain Split lets you recover some of the hit points you might have lost using *Calm Mind)

    For the record you can't just use (Ghost) attacks or you'll be walled completely by (Normal) types and to a lesser extent (Dark) / (Steel) types. As a partner move (Electric) is a great compliment to (Ghost). Here's a list of pokes who resist both (Electric) / (Ghost) attacks...

    Steelix / Cacturne / Shiftry / Magnezone / Dialga

    Some of their previous forms also resist but i just listed the top of their evo~tree. But only 5 pokes means you'll hit just about everything neutrally at least.

    I still prefer Gengar though because that speed is awesome in the leadoff spot and you have plenty of pokes that can take a hit so a fast sweeper will fit better.

    Trust me when i tell you i'm not biased when it comes to Mismagius. My team in Pearl consists of Infernape / Mismagius / Gyarados. That's the whole team and Mismagius shines the brightest which is not so easy when you consider her partners.

    ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

    The reason i like Infernape > Lucario is because he gives your team a lightning fast STAB (Fire) attack that is an awesome weapon on your team.

    Other than a (Fight) attack Lucario offers your team (Rock) / (Dark) attacks on the Physical side. Both of those attacks are duplicated by Hippowdon / Gengar ~ Mismagius. <I'm counting (Ghost) / (Dark) as the same.

    Compare that with Infernape offering (Fire) / (Grass) and it's hardly a fair fight.

    I'm not saying Infernape is always better than Lucario. Just for your specific needs i think he'd make your team better.

    My favorite Lucario build is a *Reversal build. With a team built around him he can be outright awesome. If i was making a physical sweeper it would look like this...

    Lucario w/Leftovers
    'Steadfast' : Raises speed when flinched.
    <Jolly : +Spd / -Sat>
    * Close Combat
    * Stone Edge
    * Crunch
    * Sword Dance

    ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

    There's some sets for the pokes you requested but i'd like to say...

    'I'm still championing Infernape / Gengar for your cause.'

    All right Lotus. =p You've convinced me. I got a Chimchar today that I'll start leveling, and I'll grab a Ghastly to round out the team.

    What should my Gengar build consist of then? Something like this?:

    Gengar @ ??
    'Levitate' : Immune to (Ground) attacks.
    <Timid : +Spd / -Att>
    * Shadow Ball
    * Thunderbolt
    * Hypnosis
    * Dream Eater / Nightmare

    BTW, it seems you guys want me to have Leftovers on EVERY poke. Where can I get that many???

    -= EDIT =-

    To get a Hippowdon with Slack Off do I need to breed it? If so, with what? >.>

    Also, sadly I think I'll have to catch a new Eevee and start over. I was so excited to get Leafeon that I evolved him right away. I don't think there is any way for him to get Baton Pass now. =[

    Thanks again for the help and info guys. =]

    My Bad.

    I totally missed a couple of questions asked that i should have answered in your last post.

    When people battle other people over the internet via NetBattle / Competitor / WiFi it is called the Metagame. It's Meta because it is always shifting and changing. An example would be if everyone starts using a certain poke ~ Skarmory ~ than everyone will start carrying a counter to said poke ~ Magnezone ~ this is called a MetaShift.

    So when i called Infernape a MetaBreaker i meant he can destroy a lot of other peoples Defensive Strategies. Most competitive teams carry a Special Wall that is (Normal) type so it doesn't have many weaknesses. Blissey / Snorlax are two prime examples of this.

    Being Special Walls they have way higher Special Defense than Defense so you'll want to hit them with a Physical Weakness and that mean *Close Combat because it is Physical + (Fight).

    The Numero Uno Physical Wall of 3rd gen and still an incredible pain in the arse is Skarmory. Being a Physical Wall it has a much higher Defense than Special Defense so you will want to attack it with a Special Weakness hence *Flamethrower because it is Special + (Fire). There are also other (Steel) types that you will be very thankful to get rid of with this attack namely Metagross / Magnezone / Steelix.

    Another tactic of the Metagame is called Bulky Waters. They make good Physical Wall types because they aren't weak to a lot of the common Physical Attacks. They are almost always and have a nice HP stat. They also almost always pack *Ice Beam making them great counters to (Dragon) types.

    This is where *Grass Knot comes into play. The bigger the poke the more damage it does and as it happens most Bulky Waters are large. That means *Grass Knot hita them at least 80 Base Power and some get a 100 / 120 blast from it and they all get it Super Effective. Milotic / Swampert / Suicine / Slowbro / etc. are some examples of Bulky Waters.

    This is a great move on Infernape because it gives him a counter to 2 types that get a STAB on his weakness. (Water) / (Ground) Being so fast he can get *Grass Rope off and take out his threats before they get at him.

    That is why i call Infernape a MetaBreaker. Because he can break through a lot of MetaGame Defensive Strategies. The combo of STAB (Fire) / (Fight) is one the nastiest STAB combos around and with (Grass) as a compliment this poke is hella nice.

    Double Status Gengar is this build...

    Gengar w/Black sludge
    'Levitate' : Immune to (Ground) attacks.
    <Timid : +Spd / -Att>
    * Shadow Ball
    * Thunderbolt
    * Will-O-Wisp
    * Hypnosis

    He's double status because he can put you to Sleep ~or~ Burn you crippling a 'Guts' -less Physical Sweeper. He makes a great lead because you can really mess up another teams startegy by utilizing such quick Status Effects.

    ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

    As for passing on *Slack Off you will need a Female Hippopotas / Hippowdon and a Male ChimChar <39> / Monferno <46> / Slackoth <13> / Slaking <RL> / Slowpoke <39> / Slowbro <41>. The <#> is the level at which they learn *Slack Off.

    Once you get a male poke with *Slack Off you'll want to shift it so it's the bottom move.

    (*Whenever you breed you should put the moves in the order you want to keep the most backwards. If you learn a new move while you are breeding it will go to the bottom and bump the top move off so you should always put your worst move on top.*)

    Now just put the Male Poke w/*Slack Off <-> Female Hippopotas = Hippopotas w/*Slack Off.

    ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

    If the Leafeon is a female you can just put it in with another poke from it's egg group and still get baby Eevees. If you have a Ditto you can get baby Eevees even if its Male.

    Good Luck Man.

    Ok I checked, and my Leafeon is male. So I'll have to wait til the Mansion has some Eevees in the garden. =\ Or I guess I could try to get a Ditto with the pokeradar, but those are pretty rare right?

    I understand the Gengar build now, I got a Timid natured one now, so I'll start leveling him once I get Milotic up. XD

    Thanks again for all the advice Lotus! I appreciate it.

    BTW where do leftovers come from again? I haven't found any in Pearl yet.

    -= EDIT =-

    Also, where can I see a list of Egg Groups?

    Oh yeah, what is something easy that I can breed my Milotic with to get Hypnosis? I think I'd prefer the Hypnosis/Recover build over the Rest/Sleep Talk build. Or am I missing something that makes the 2nd one better?

    I got my Leftovers from Munchlax when i caught it. If you need a bunch i'd start transferring them over from Emerald were you can but them or acquire them via 'Pick Up'.

    ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

    *Hypnosis + *Recover was more viable in 3rd Gen because it was more defensive by nature. In the 4th Gen however there is way more offense meaning you will often be getting hit for more than 50% of you HP. That means you'll be losing more HP than you are recovering from *Recover. I think ReSTalk Milotic is the only option in 4th Gen.

    *Energy Ball + *Grass Knot are 2 major reasons why. It used to be that only (Grass) types had access to (Grass) attacks but now there are lots of pokes that carry one of these attacks.

    Also you get great synergy from her ability 'Marvel Scale' by using ReSTalk strategy. You effectively STAB her defense by putting her to sleep while still being able to attack. She is one of my favorite pokes and i use ReSTalk.

    ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

    I take it you've seen this site before...

    Serebii

    If you click ~ D/P Pokedex ~ you'll see 4 scrollable boxes that say <FR/LG> ~ <GSC> ~ <RSE> ~ <D/P>. These are the different generation of pokes. If you don't know them by generation you can click on the type boxes below and it will bring up a list of all the pokes with that typing ie. (Fire) / (Ground) / (Water) / etc.

    Choose the poke who's Egg Group you want ~ Leafeon

    Now you'll be on Leafeon's Screen. Scroll down to the bottom of the page you'll see a box named ~ Egg Groups.

    Here you can either use the scroll to see who's in the box or you can click on the name of the group to the left. In this case it's <Ground>. This will bring you a list of all the pokes it can breed with.

    You should also use this if you want to pass on moves. Click on the name of the move and it will bring up a list of pokes that learn the move naturally. Than follow the Egg Groups until you get it on the poke you want.

    If you just want a straight list you can click here...

    Psypoke Breeding

    Ohhhh, it never even occurred to me that the sleep effect from Rest would stack with her ability Marvel Scale! That's really pretty ingenious. I'll definitely go Rest/Sleep Talk then. It's clearly the better choice in this case.

    Ok, well now I just have to get another Eevee somewhere and breed my Hippowdon. I'm thinking since I need a Infernape anyway, I'll just get Monferno to 46 for Slack Off, breed with my female Hippowdon, then evolve it into Infernape and teach it the rest of the moves it needs.

    Unfortunately I think I'm going to be spending a lot of time in the Game Corner considering I need Rest, Flamethrower, and 2 Ice Beams. >.>

    I know you need a lot of scratch for the Game Corner.

    I use the VS Seeker to fight the peeps outside the Mansion as they give buttloads of cash.

    It also pays to have a 'Pick Up' poke as the items you gather can fetch a nice price after a while.

    If you have Emerald i'd just release a male Slackoth into Pal Park because there's a big difference between Lv.13 -> Lv.46.

    ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

    If you haven't bred a Milotic yet this will save you some money - you can use a chain of...

    Male Loudred Lv.51 w/*Sleep Talk + *Rest <-> Female Arbok = Male Arbok w/*Sleep Talk + *Rest

    Male Arbok w/*Sleep Talk + *Rest <-> Female Feebas = Feebas w/*Sleep Talk + *Rest

    ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

    Good Luck with the Breeding. I know it's seems daunting at first but when you finally get the pokes you want it's well worth it.

    Yeah, that's a good idea. Can you fight them everyday?

    Also, I already TMed my Milotic to have Rest and Sleep Talk, so I'll just get Monferno to 46 for Slack Off. I need to level him up anyway, it won't matter if he isn't Infernape right away.

    Thanks again for all the advice. I'll keep you posted on my team progress. =]
