Not THIS again...

Loading screens in modern gaming. I was playing a Wii game that does loading by telling you the name of the area you've entered. It's really annoying after the first time, because the first time, I assume it's just telling me the name of the area. But no, it happens every time afterward too. It may not say "loading" but it still counts.

Special editions being worse than the original are annoying too. I've played a GCN and PS2 version of the same game and the PS2 version, released after as a special edition, runs slower and has loading screen for every area. It's really annoying that the GCN version that was released before is much faster than its later released PS2 counterpart. But maybe that's just a hardware thing. I'm not totally sure.

Forced tutorials are a big hate from me too. Most of the time, I'm too impatient for them and I'd rather figure things out on my own or use the manual. Manuals aren't as helpful now as they once were, though. So using those is obsolete now, I suppose. I still like them. Hum. But yeah. Optional tutorials, especially for sequels or long-going series, would be much better. If a tutorial works its way into the story though, like Jak 3's (which it does treat itself more as a refresher anyway), that's fine. Makes me forget it's a tutorial. Hell, even Jak I's tutorial area doesn't feel much like one, because you're already getting Power Cells and such from it. And that's the first in the series.

Random encounters have no place in modern game design. There have been much better ways of encountering enemies over the years, some even building upon the random encounter concept (such as XIII-2), and having zero control over when you run across a weak Lv2 mob every two steps is just unbearable to me now. Pokemon is the sole exception to the random encounter rule, and even then caves are ugggghhhh.

Mother 3 has a nice enemy encounter thingie, I think. And if you're running and run into one that's weaker than you, you'll knock it over and won't actually have to battle it. It's funny. lol

I hate slow or unnecessary tutorials. I hate it when games force you to go through long, and seemingly pointless tutorial levels/fights, where they stop you every few seconds to explain something. I'd rather pick up concepts as I play the game rather than wasting my time listening to the same crap over and over again. Examples: Sonic Unwiished. Most Pokémon games. One Piece: Pirate Warriors. The Legend of Zelda games. (Those games feel like they just have a slow start in general.)

Escort stages/missions. The #1 example that comes to mind is: Cresselia in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky. "CRESSELIA, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?? YOU'RE STEPPING INTO SUICI-- NO NO, WAIT-- Annnd she's dead."

I hate QTE in modern gaming, it's restrictive and feels like the game is treating me like a 2 year old kid by saying "press this button to win the game". It also ruins the pacing of the cut scenes, and it's the biggest offender of making epic looking bosses stupidly weak. An instance of this is seen in warhammer 40K Space marine where I beat the final boss by simply following what the QTE tells me to do and rapidly click my mouse. Dumbest. Boss fight. Ever.
