I was looking around for a way to help Blissey with its sub-par Defense. Then I saw a great way to get around it: Substitute! Seriously.

    Blissey @ Leftovers/Expert Belt
    Nature: Modest
EVs: 252 Special Attack, 252 HP, 4 Speed
    -Substitute
    -Ice Beam/Psychic
    -Grass Knot/Psychic
    -Focus Blast/Fire Blast/Psychic

The idea is for this Blissey to switch in against something that won't do much damage to it. Then to use Substitute on the switch that'll probably follow.

So, is this possibly a good strategy to use for Blissey?

Blissey's Sp. Attack is far too poor to attempt to use offensively.
Also, you'd be letting it instantly fall prey to Physical Attacks.

If you really want Bliss to fight, give her Calm Mind to boost her average SAtk.

But as Iceman said, there is no way around Blissey's pitiful Def, outside of maxing it out. If you want to use an offensive Bliss, just be careful.

The idea is to lure in the counters to Blissey. Machamp falls easily to Psychic, if I recall correctly.

I get the feeling you didn't notice Substitute. Or the idea behind using it.

Iceman has a point; if you want to come ANYWHERE near using a sp. atk set, you'll have little other option in my opinion than...

    Blissey@Leftovers
Modest nature (I still don't see the use in that little 12 defense boost from Bold, but whatev...)
    EVs: 252def/252sp.def/6HP

    Calm Mind
    Softboiled
    Ice Beam
    T-bolt

...That's all I can think of without joke. Softboiled is just a requirement. However... lol I so wanna make the Choice Band Blissey. The Substitute idea is fine, but Blissey can't run that because there's also Weavile you'll have to deal with. It can pop an easy Swords Dance on ya and not take too much damage. Running Focus Blast has a chance to be effective if you hit though, but I don't know if it's enough for a 1-shot.

Modest, 252 Special Attack EV Blissey OHKO's with Focus Blast, so that's a yes.

Even if Weavile does get in a Swords Dance, it still has Substitute to go through.

Hey, Magmortified! Didn't realize you were a member here. =D

(I'm Alakazam, by the way. :p)

While I said your set could be surprising, I'm beginning to think that Calm Mind wouldn't be so bad of an idea. That makes you take out one of the attacks, though. I think you should go with Ice Beam & Psychic, for taking out the counters.

Though that set won't beat Weavile....heh, I suppose you could swap either for Focus Blast then.

Just remember that your team can also pack in a nice Forretress to counter Weavile, because let me tell ya; I run a pretty nasty one myself.

If you at least invest EVs in defense, then you'll be safe. 252 sp. atk/252 def/6 HP

Machamp can survive psychic from a blissey at least once.

No, physical attackers can break the sub and then kill you. The only decent attack blissey set I've seen run is CB Calm Mind blissey to be honest.

actually, i do use an offensive Blissey. check it out:

    Blissey @ Choice Specs
    Bold Nature
    Ability: Natural Cure
    252 DEF/252 SP ATK/4 SP DEF
    -Flamethrower
    -Thunderbolt/Grass Knot/Psychic
    -Ice Beam/Shadow Ball
    -Rest/Shadow Ball/Psychic/

it's done some serious damage to unexpecting bronzongs, heracross, slowbro, gyarados and hippowdon. but that's not why i use it. i hate blissey so i'm fine with it dying. besides, it's part of my OU mockery team, all of which i hate.
